I worked in the Del Mar area when this happened. We had breakfast a couple of times at the Pancake House in RSF and this group was there. Not eating, they all just had water. No one spoke except Applewhite, the rest just stared at him in adoration. The morning the suicides were discovered, I was driving to work through RSF. It's a scenic, curvy two lane road, so much better than sitting in traffic on the 5. The police closed the road both ways, so I ended up sitting there for hours before I was able to get turned around at the roadblock. Had no clue why, get to work, everyone is glued to the TV watching the news reports. My boss says "It's that weird group we've seen at the pancake house! They're all dead!" Trippy day, for sure.

I remember when this happened! My family and I were moving across country at the time and it sparked this huge theological debate between my Mom and Dad. I very clearly remember driving thru Minnesota plains listening to my parents fully debate aliens and God and religion resting my head against the window in the backseat looking up at the stars. Just curious how something so awful can spurn one of my favorite memories of my parents.

Megan Cook the surviving members of Heaven’s Gate don’t think its awful at all. In fact, they’re jealous. Dying by choice for what you believe in, what is your personal truth....its shocking nobody freaked out last minute and ran away. As you read about this religion, its not exactly any more preposterous than any mainstream religion surrounding us all the time. In fact, I find it much more likely that aliens exist, than any Christian, Jewish, or Muslim God. I don’t believe anyone made it onto a spacecraft that day, sadly. I don’t believe there is a carnival in the sky waiting for us after death either.

I did an experiment once, where I used a natal chart site, entered info for several random dates/times as well as my own birthday and compared all the information to me. I counted each point they made as either agree or disagree with my life. Each chart was roughly accurate to me, though had a handful of inaccurate points. The chart that used my real birthday didn't seem to stand out at all in accuracy, and the most accurate chart to me was actually one of the random date ones. So I think they're meant to be easily accurate to anyone who reads them.

As an archaeologist I have to say that I love ancient alien theories and know theyre exciting and fun but also 100000% not true; there's a wealth of info proving it and also showing how the pyramids were built etc. It's good fun but best kept as just that because the origin of these theories are honestly awful. Also the man who wrote Chariot of the Gods was a bit mad, knew nothing about archaeology and wasn't interesting in trying to learn so take everything he said with not even a pinch of salt more like the entire jar of salt. Also I love your videos!!! theyre so interesting and well made ❤️❤️

Still only theories exist on how the pyramids were built. The ramp theory has a lot of problems and the NOVA experiment had to use steel hammers and chisels because the copper and bronze tools were not hard enough. Every time they try to duplicate a theory, they have to use short cuts like steel tools or move a smaller stone. We know ancient man was able to build stone structures on a smaller scale, those are not in question. It's the huge monolithic sites that are a mystery. If you have a source for a true legitimate site that has been able to move and carve a full size stone with copper tools or a method available to ancient people's, please put it in a reply. I would really like to know how they did it, if they did it.

Thank you! I'm an archaeology and egyptology student and I came here to say exactly the same. An additional issue with ancient alien theories is that it often has racist aspects.

@@sarahk8053 If you ask the indigenous people in a majority of these places and sites, they claim they didn't build them. They say people from "Another" place, usually from the stars built them. We can't even melt rock like that now, how can an ancient bronze age people generate that much heat and or energy to accomplish that. The Romans couldn't even place the size of stones in some of these places. The stones the Roman's used were many times smaller than what was used in South America and other places around the world, long before the Romans.
@derekarmstrong1059
@derekarmstrong1059 4 жыл бұрын
@Nina Shroomsburgh It doesn't matter how long you give a bronze age society time to do the impossible, as long as they are in a bronze age level of development, moving these megalithic blocks is beyond their capability. Even the local people of these regions say these monuments were not built by them. They added to them in some cases and you can clearly see where the local people's added their contribution to the already existing structures. The blocks that the local people added , although impressive, are much smaller than the huge blocks that were already there, and are not cut or fitted together with such precision. The people of that region say the original builders came from the sky, I don't claim to know what that means and don't want to guess. They are not claiming to have built the huge megalithic parts of the structures, and neither then or now have the capability to duplicate the structures. These people didn't even have the wheel, let alone the devices to cut, move and place these huge blocks. We can't do this today without machines, we don't know how to build these structures without modern gas, diesel or electric power driven machines. The Incas said they didn't build the structures, we can't replicate how a bronze age people could cut, shape, move and build the structures, so it's more than likely they didn't build the structures. Someone from some other advanced society built them, and that society was probably not originally from here.

Emily Barclay it was called the WCG or “Worldwide Church of God”. My dad joined in late 1989 and left around 1997. It was mostly a massive money scam that used people’s fears of the apocalypse against them. They are still around but now under a new name called Grace Communion International, due to the controversy surrounding the WCG name. I could probably write a book about everything I saw but those are just the basics.

Emily Barclay You’re right, it is very scary! If you google the name or look up Herbert Armstrong (founder) you can get a lot of info. They weren’t anything like Jonestown or Heavens Gate, but they did have their share of strange strict rules and, of course, plenty of scandals within. Most of these cults prey on people who (like my father was) are just looking to belong to something bigger than themselves, and sadly the kids in these groups have no choice but to go along for the ride!

Emily Barclay You are really lucky. The WCG was literally a mash up of Christianity, 7th Day Adventist, Jehovahs Witness, Judaism, and “Armstrongism” (aka whatever Herb Armstrong decided the rules were for that week) So you can imagine my confusion! It gets worse, My mom never got on board with the cult mentality and she sent me and my siblings to a CATHOLIC school. Religion in all its forms messed me up big time. Now that I’m in my 30s I try to live by one rule, just be a good person and kind to others.

Emily Barclay I have a friend from Hull who said the same thing about cults and religion and he’s not a church person either. It seems like here in the states there are new cults all the time (usually money scams) and then we have all the main stream religions everywhere. But the really crazy cults are always interesting to learn about. Thanks for being so kind and I wish you the best over there across the pond 😊

elena nojkovic Jehovah Witnesses are not a cult. They believe in the Bible(one of the few who actually follow the Bible). It’s these kind of rumors/speculation that starts all this. No, I am not a Jehovah’s Witness, however, I do have family members that are and they are some of the kindest people I have ever met. They don’t go around having mass suicides/murders. They go door to door spreading the word like the Bible says to do.

@@tracieday1914 I can't speak about US as I don't live there. I'm from Croatia. Here we have a problem with quite conservative gouverment. A few years ago there was a referendum abput gay marriage. Because of that, according to our constitution, marriage between two gay peopla can't be called marriage in Croatia right now. It is called 'lifetime partnership' or something like that. A few months ago they were also denied the right to foster kids. Sooo...yeah...not great.

I was born in 1965 and watching this has brought so much back about that time. Space in all types of forms was everywhere, probably helped by us reaching the Moon. There are some powerful lessons to be learnt from cults about our capacity to be vulnerable to group domination and control. Thanks again Stephanie - keep up the good work !

have you ever looked into the symbolism of the age of aquarius transition? for those not familiar: the ages are derived from the precession of the equinoxes; the 'wobble' in the rotation of the earth. so the ages represent specific stretches of time and like the normal year is divided in 12 periods based on the zodiac. only difference is that it rotates in the opposite direction. so the transition is from the age of pisces into aquarius. pisces is symbolized by 2 fish. fish are symbolic for spirituality and faith. hence the jesus fish. aquarius though is symbolized by a woman emptying a pitcher of water. in some art the water takes the shape of a skull. water symbolises consciousness, and the skull represents knowledge of life and death. so the symbolism presents a transition from an age of faith into an age of knowledge and understanding.
