Hey Sarah and Kyuho, based on the look of your previous videos, I recommend using the Standard picture profile on the M50 and tweaking the saturation and contrast to your liking. For focusing with you two talking to each other, I recommend using one of you as a sit-in and manually focusing on their face (turn off Servo AF). Also, I don't know if you're recording in 4k or 1080p; but most Canon cameras typically have a very soft look in 1080p mode so I recommend recording in 4k and downscaling to 1080p.
@2hearts1seoul3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for these tips-specifically the focus tip! We found that the face tracking didn’t work great when there were two of us in the shot, so we’ll give MF a try with someone as a sit-in first.

The m50 has 4k but it crops the image quite a bit so lots of m50 users just stick to 1080p

Hi, just answering to Sarah around 5:22 : I believe that the poppy seeds we eat are different from the opium ones. Sort of same flower family but different cultivar. Maybe like the difference between black sesame and sesame? Same plant, different cultivar. If there are Korean readers, not all the poppies are drugs! A lot of plant are wild flowers that can be foraged, some can be grown, and used to cook. Only some particular species are illegal. Surprised too about this. Hope this helps! Take care.

I just love how you edit these videos...Beemo looking kinda gloomy, that shot of the rain pouring against the window with the cool music in the background and then Kyuho with the umbrella walking down the street...it creates such a unique atmosphere. I feel bad for saying that cause you guys mentioned at the end that you didn't like that cinematic vibe but I thought it was so soothing. Also I am really shocked about the poppy seeds as well. We have them here as a base of several desserts, pastries and even sprinkle them on bread so I find it weird that it's illegal anywhere in the world. I can guarantee it does not get you high even if you eat a large amount, like the pasties which have poppy seed filling that calls for like 3 bags of poppy seeds. Korean laws about any type of opioid must be really strict for them to not even allow poppy seeds. Always learning new things about Korea from you guys.

I don't mind the rain and I actually prefer it when it isn't too hot, but I did miss the sunshine. I don't actually even need sunshine, as long as it isn't grey for days without end, really. Luckily the weather turned around and we've been having sunshine for almost a week now and the temperature is up to 26° (at least in the Southwest where I live). It's really helpful, since I have a tonne of laundry to do, including bedsheets and stuff, so I'm glad I can utilise my balcony for that again.

My aunt used to make poppy seed noodles with butter. I loved them. I used to also drive a bus as an activity director for senior citizens and take them on trips. I never ate an "everything" (onion, sesame seeds, poppy seeds) bagel during the week because of the chance of the false positive on drug tests. They gave random drug tests to us drivers every so often, and I didn't want to chance it. I discussed this with the drug tester and he laughed and said I would have to eat a massive dose of poppy seeds for it to register in my system. That's interesting that they are illegal in Korea! I bet some day that will change.

it’s a flat picture profile so you can color correct/grade it in post production, I suggest try with the footage you used for this video experimenting and playing with the color correction until you find the look that you’re happy with. Lowering the shadows and increasing the contrast and saturation a bit makes it look better almost immediately. I understand how frustrating it get I used to be like this too when I started but once you know how to work with it it becomes fun trust me :)

I hope more research can be done in Asian countries as poppyseed and CBD is widely used in other countries around the world. Big hugs to all from California!

I grew up in Uzbekistan. I remember my grandmother pulling out the poppies when she heard that police are raiding the houses to look for poppies. They were basically like weeds, they would sometimes just grew on their own, no need to plant them. My grandma used to preserve the husks and boil them when someone from family had really bad colds. But actually rarely used them, I remember she gave that tea to my brother when he had pertussis as a teenager and couldn't sleep at all. Uzbekistan has quite strict laws about drugs, except poppy seeds. Imagine my shock from legal marijuana after I moved to Canada! It is absolutely illegal in Uzbekistan, but here people just casually smoke it even at bus stops! I still can't stand the smell, it is annoying that literally any bus often smells like marijuana in Vancouver or Victoria.

With the Canon M50, generally, the standard profile is the pretty good if you don't want to mess around in post afterwards. Cinestyle which is a more flat style, has the advantage that you keep more details in situations where there is big range of brightness or exposure (for example, you're filming inside which is generally darker but you have a window in the background and it's daytime. You can, in post, bring down the highlights and increase the shadows to gain more details in both highlights, which is outdoors, and shadows, which is the indoor part). FYI, iPhone 7 and later, was kinda doing that for you automatically. Afterwards, I'm getting the feeling that you prefer a look that has more saturation than what you showed. Make sure that your Mac's True Tone display is turned off when doing this as it adjust the white balance based on the ambient light in your room at the moment you're editing. You can turn this off in System preference then Display. I personally prefer using the colour wheel in Final Cut to adjust this. Lastly about the focus: even if you have an f1.4 lens, you don't have to shoot at 1.4 meaning you can stop down to like 2.8 to give yourself a little more room to be in focus + both of you should be on the same focal plane (meaning at equal distance from the lens).

Very shocking about the poppy seeds. I love lemon poppy seed muffins! I also love my CBD. I'm a ball of anxiety and it helps calm me. Happy early birthday, Sarah! 🧁

Lol in my country poppy seeds are major ingridient in cakes and pastry, we have this cake called štrúdľa and if it's made with poppy seeds it's packed with them, like poppy seeds and sugar and tiny bit of dough. And it's the cake our grandmas make. You won't get high from it.

Shooting in Cinestyle is liked by many because it allows the editor to colour correct the way they want the video to look like! That’s why it looks really flat and unless you are going for that flat look, you’ll definitely need to edit the footages in post. For Canon I think the standard profile is probably the best for you guys since it still keeps the contrast and saturation, plus you can still tweak the individual settings within to suit your liking! The downside would be that in low light without bumping the ISO too high and making the image noisy, the footage might be too dark. Having a low f/aperture number makes it brighter by allowing more light to enter but that also mean that you’re more likely to be out of focus easily~ (buttttt also that will give you the “blurry background” look or bokehs from lights) it’ll take lots of testing out to find what suits your style but I’m sure you guys will find a way!!! All the best :>

Thank you sooo much for the advice! 🙏♥️ Yeah, I always color grade in FCPX, but damn…that Cinestyle footage was so flat and really hard to work with. We definitely need to practice using a lower f/aperture number when we’re both in the shot-that was definitely a challenge 🥲

@@2hearts1seoul I agree it’s really difficult, not to mention super time consuming!!! Oh maybe you can also test out what is the maximum ISO you are comfortable using while practicing! Then at least you can use that to brighten up a bit if you don’t wanna make the f/number really small~ one way I can think of for both of you to be in focus with a low f/number is for both of you to be of more or less equal distance from the camera, like your sofa talks/dining table eating shots!

Yes! It's starting to cool down and my thoughts are turning to soups, hearty stews, etc. It's foggy this morning, as I sit with my genmaicha tea 🍵 and watch this video
