I absolutely love Daemon taking jabs at Otto. Otto is clearly not the good guy here (he's basically Littlefinger with way more resources), but first choosing to fight his son and then getting his daughter's favor? Daemon is so petty, i love him! Also about the "randomness" of the golden cloaks night escapades, it has to be said that it was the middle of the night, and historically at that time 98% of the people out and about were criminals of some sort.

It was just ok... way to static in my opinion. GoT was all about seeing its world through the eyes of the main characters but that was completely absent here. It was just a big info dump immediately follewed by pretty standard drama. Because the show clearly sell itself as the new GoT I feel its justified to hold it to that standard. It was enjoyable sure, but nothing like the original.
@CultureVultureMedia12 жыл бұрын
I guess that largely comes down to the fact we’re only seeing kings landing, but mostly the fast pacing and clunky exposition. There were some good scenes though, like the council meetings and Viserys denouncing Daemon. Do you think it’ll get better with the initial introductions out of the way?
@ageoflove19802 жыл бұрын
@@CultureVultureMedia1 I dont think Viserys denouncing Daemon was good at all. This seems more like a "mid-season" event when we actually know these people. They could have shown perhaps how the boys grew up together or anything that showed the bond they have as brothers. At least something that makes us care about their relationship. Same with the tragic death in childbirth. If we had know man and wife for a few episodes, maybe show more how lacking a son hurt them, maybe some scenes from happier times, how they met or anything like that to make us care. And yes GoT was all about traveling the world and seeing weird and wonderful landscapes, meeting exotic cultures. The politics were only a small part of this. The show feels like its just one of the plotlines and just one of the locations out of the many from GoT. I was waiting the whole episode for things to change. Maybe we would go to Oldtown, maybe some new character in a different place and we could wonder and theorize how he would fit in the story. None of that im afraid. In the GoT pliot alone we see: Beyond the wall and the white walkers, Winterfell and the Stark family, Jamie and Cersei in Kings Landing, Robert Baratheon and the full court and of course Daenerys and her brother getting introduced to Khal Drogo. Like I said, the show feels like they just took one of all these stories and bloated it up to an entire episode.
@CultureVultureMedia12 жыл бұрын
@@ageoflove1980 totally agree, the pacing is taking the punch out of the drama as these scenes are not built up to properly. I hope this was just a first episode thing, but I suspect it’s not :/
@ageoflove19802 жыл бұрын
@@CultureVultureMedia1 Well if they already start to waste our time by introducing characters and killing them 20 minutes later, its not exactly promising. And of course the completely gratuitous sex scenes, violence and dragon cgi, as you point out, i fear for the worst. The sex in GoT was actually essential to the plot, the brothel of Lord Baelish for example, and the foreshadowing that Tyrion loved the ladies of the night a bit to much, that all proved to be crucial in later story development. Also the violence during the tournament of the Hand was important. The guy killed by The Mountain was a loose end that needed to be dealt with. It was important to the story, it was "functional" violence. In this tourny we dont even know who the people are getting brutally murdered for no apparant reason. And dont even get me started about that dragon... Its "House of the Dragon" right? So we got to have one! Im sure we will get to see him breathe fire around a bit but ill doubt they will become as integral to the plot as in GoT. But what irritates me the most is that so many hail the first episode like the second coming of The Lord while , at least to me, its so obviously average. Edit: Im rewatching it as preparation for ep2 and just now notice that the whole plot makes absolutely no sense... If you are afraid of rivalry and succession... wouldnt the last thing you do is give the rival a literal army... in your own city? The Hand is clearly plotting against Daemon but he was somehow perfectly fine with that? I mean, he is very capable to sway the Kings opinion, thats made pretty clear.
@CultureVultureMedia12 жыл бұрын
@Sander Fitzwilliam Yeah the flaws are showing early, and it's sad. I certainly had modest expectations, but so far I'm honestly a bit dissappointed x) There's no build up to pack the drama punches, like people dying, or Rhaenyra's stand-off with Daemon. I hope they turn it around, but I don't see it happening :/
