Well, it's a large layout for me, anyway. 11' x 4', and part of that is backstage. The area you are seeing is about 30" deep. It's mainly a place for the On30 trains to run.
I shot this on old-school video tape, and it looks really bad. After I add more details and get the trees really worked out, I'll shoot another version digitally. Might also show how the lighting and the sky are setup. And I guess a few overall shots would be nice, but first I need to add the proscenium and clean up the room.

Not just exquisite modelling, but excellent camera work - great depth of field, use of foreground scenery, & best of all, very little shaky camera movement! Far too many (nearly all) videos forget that when shooting miniatures, every camera move is magnified by the scale of the subject. In "real life" a millimeter move is a 48 mm move in O scale, 87mm in HO, etc. Some videos induce motion sickness... Thanks for the lock-down shots. And the truly beautiful & realistic trains & settings...

Inspired choice of music. Perfectly matches the mood of the bucolic fantasy of the layout!

Thanks Robert. The layout is a sort of alternate reality. The sky is always blue, and the trees are always green, even in the middle of the winter.

What a relaxing way to spend some time . A beautiful layout , excellent piano playing , and the feeling that all's well in the world of On30 . Superb . Glad I found it .

As a very fussy professional model builder, I have to say: Nice! I like your touch with the scenery, your structure meld well, instead of looking "plopped into place," and you have good color sense. Makes me want to stop doing other people's stuff and build a railway of my own!

Very pleased to see such a nicely done layout that is NOT named "Bustead & Korruptud" or "Messie & Nevadone." Those get old so quickly! BTW: Lovely music, but an odd choice for a railroad video! 8-D

Thanks carmium, it took awhile to come up with. It's actually patterned somewhat after Walt Disney's Carolwood Pacific R.R. logo, which is also C.P.R.R. And Walt came up with the Carolwood Pacific name so he could pattern his logo after the Central Pacific R.R., the original C.P.R.R. You can barely see the logo on the boxcar at 0:19.

I'm about 8 years late on this video. The scenery on your layout is top notch. Though the definition is, by current standards, out dated I really like how you "blurred" some of the shots. That goes wonderfully with your choice of Impressionistic Music in the background.

Thanks! I really like doing the scenery. Although I need to try some new techniques for trees.

Great layout and great choice of music! Most videos I have seen have either some pseudo-metal dreck or some absolutely hideous "railroad" themed song ruining the clip. Your video has audio as pleasant as the visuals. It reminds me of an old "picture-picture" segment from "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood". Excellent!

Thanks William. It's important to find music that adds to the visuals, and doesn't distract or detract. And to find music that doesn't have copyright issues!

Nothing wrong with your video....consider it old time film for an old time railroad scene. Anyway, fantastic layout, and it seems to a smooth runner, also!

The Model Ts are from Athearn. They are probably not being made anymore, but you might find some online, or maybe on Ebay. The really old car is a plastic kit from Glencoe Models, found on Ebay. And I have a couple of 1/48 metal kits from Wiseman Model Services, very detailed, very complex. Waiting for a big blizzard to put those together. Thanks!

I've posted a link to a more recent video of the layout. Instead of my old Hi-8 camera, the new video was shot and edited on my iPhone. The HD quality is pretty good, for something that was created on something that fits in my pocket. I can still remember the old RCA tube video camera that had the recorder as a separate deck that slung over your shoulder -- The new tech is pretty cool.

Thanks. The bobber is a bash. The top half is a Bachmann caboose, changed just a bit, and the sideframes for the wheels came from an old AHM O-Scale bobber. Took a little surgery to change the width, but I do like the results. Still wondering what to do with the body of the AHM caboose.

The overall layout is 11 feet by 4 feet, or 2.7 x 1.3 meters. But the part you are seeing is just about half of that space, so it's more like 11x2 feet. The backside is a different scene.

I don't actually spend much time on the trains these days. It's a bad thing to finish a layout! The next layout should be portable, so I can take it to train shows.

Yeah, the music is almost Muzak. Elevator music. KZbin is really picky about music copyrights, but the music they have to pick from is... Limited.
