I drive a Cascadia and last time I drove from Laredo to Toronto I got 8 mpg with a 37000 lbs. load. Cruze control the whole way. I just drive slower. Keep it under 65 and you’ll do good. I also start my day at 2 in the morning to get threw as many towns and cities before the 4 wheelers start slowing you down. I make more saving on fuel then I will with saving time. ( going faster to use less hours). I know some don’t like it this way but it works for me.

Hello again Sammy I have the blue T 660 flattop parked by you at Louisville truck show. Now I am not tuned for fuel and set at 600 hp and 2050 tongue. Getting in the sevens. One trip stands out but is not the only one to achieve this, Iowa to Phoenix and back 8.235 mpg about 2,500 miles. Yes 80 k loads. Now I know not a hood truck but with this tune feel lucky. This was off miles and fuel receipts. Interesting note went through a couple thunderstorms so going wasn't perfect. But I did only idle for about 2 hours total on the trip, which helps. Now I did the numbers for the first 35,000 miles awhile back. Starting with the truck this past winter and learning it, I didn't do very well on mpg's in the beginning. That being said the 35,000 mile average was 7.137 mpg's. That is with more then 3/4 of loads at 80 k. Plus with my wheel base trailer gap is horrible. So part of my story so far with the truck. Not to bad for a hopped up ISX. Maybe it's all luck only time will tell.

My old truck was build for the best MPG it could get. Being a 1995, it has 2.93 gears. Along with a 10 speed Direct. And yes you have a lot of guys, that say a OD will get better MPG. But we know direct is the best for Fuel Mileage. 22.5 low pros. Its one of the single axle Dillard trucks. They pulled doubles with. Detroit 11.1 365HP, but man does it pull good for a low HP compared to today's trucks. They also ordered there trucks back then. With 4 fuel tanks 470 gallons of fuel on board. Will know next year, when we start traveling. As will be pulling our camper around with it. And going to see the Redwoods. Figure I can fuel up west of OK City. And run to CA and back to cheaper fuel. No buying that high $$ Ca fuel. My boost gauge grossing around 43K stays around 5 lbs. Hard pull with big grades still around 12lbs most time's.

Sammy I know you like the ISX, while my favorite Cummins is the N-14. Do a video comparing the two. I think you'll find the n-14 is a far superior engine. My 02 9200i if I kept it at 60 I got 8.5 with it. My sons 01 9200 got 9 with no emissions. So my 41 years of experience tells me do not buy newer than 03 trucks.
@michaeldunagan82682 жыл бұрын
I have a Cummins 14 also. Yes it is better without emissions and yes it is easier to work on. However, those ISX's run very strong-even if they will drop a liner or put a rod through the block or need to be rebuilt in 300,000 MI. Of the one I drove for a year in a ProStar in 2017 I think it was a 2014 ProStar with its ISX 15 rebuilt at 340k according to the owner, I think the ISX had more below 1,300 RPM grunt than my n14 does and I have 3.58 the one ratio rear end where this one was like a 3.27:2. I also have eaten 13 speed where the truck I drove was a 10 speed. I just know that if I'm in a hurry or if I'm pulling heavy that I start my shifts at 1400 RPM and bring them up to 1625. If I'm in more of a hurry like pulling out front of traffic I'll start my shifts at 1500 and pull them to 1750. Bottom line: I have no problems driving an ISX15-I just have all kinds of problems ever owning one.

He's right. In top gear, boost correlates directly with power demand (and hence fuel burn rate). Limiting boost, inherently limits fuel consumption. This is a similar notion to limiting cruising speed on flat terrain (aerodynamic drag being proportional to the cube of the speed, so limiting speed limits power demand). When in lower gears climbing steeper hills, you're better probably off lugging at higher boost than choosing a lower gear to get lower boost tho'. Engine efficiency increases with boost pressure.
@michaeldunagan82682 жыл бұрын
Uhm- -you're better off lugging.... Until you put a rod through the block! Maybe a Mac engine and maybe caterpillars and okay a Mercedes mbe4000 you can lug with impunity: but you're going to be spending 30 to 40 Grand very quickly if you try that with an ISX. Pittsburgh Power as pertains to climbing a hill says to be in a gear where you could increase your broad speed when you press on the accelerator. I climb mountains at 1800 RPMs and think nothing of it; that is where the rated horsepower is. Climbing hills cost money. Time is money and money is time; I don't want to spend 5 days climbing Monteagle.

In my other truck t660 When going up hills or slope the economy drop drastically unless u take your foot and add a little gas at times while the speed is being reduced by 15-20 until yu get over the hill. I dnt have tht boost guage. I use the trip economy monitor that says "low Average High" i keep it over average. When going down hills i add speed because my truck can go to 80. Then i release throttle which helps me to climb over the hill with speed. I get between 6.4 nd 6.8 with 400 miles thru 1000 miles thats the facts not now maths you do off your head but whats the computer in the tricks show you. 😩🙄

Sammy, off topic....but have you heard of amazon getting into brokering? Not sure if everything is true, but talk is they plan on undercutting prices 25-35%!! Supposedly they are willing to do it at cost. Just wondered if you heard of this. Great vid, as always, bro.

Do you have a DEF system? If so, how often and what type maintenance do you get done on it? Do you buy DEF at the pump or in a jug?

2007 Freightliner Columbia C15 Acert. I average 6.8-7.2 with it i say that is good for a acert motor. I do agree with him you have to watch that foot and learn how to use the gas pedal

Southern Catfish No matter how good you are , when it’s heavy and mountains 🤣 you need to step on the gas pedal all the way down , if you are experience ... you can use the down hills in your advantage If you have a solid good truck , 🤣mine shake in Florida flat road that’s why I don’t go up to PA West Va ... but under a light load and no mountains a good driver will average that ... all those suck One will average 5.3/ 5.8 ...and maybe 5 if they wanna do 70-75 mph... by the way those engine are the best one now , I have 1.7 mil on mine Nothing Don ... I just change oil 10 000 -11000 all the filters are cat and am Still rolling 🤣 keep your engine and if it need the rebuild do it , Those engine worth it
