I visited Columbus, a small town in Indiana where Cummins is headquartered. They also have the plant there. A lot of Indians work there, I think mainly employees and contractors in IT. Next to the town there is a beautiful forest called Brown County State Park.

Railway Locomotive has very little share of Cummins engines. In India Railway Locomotives are ALCOs, GM-EMD (now Progress Rail, under CATERPILLAR Group) & GE (now under WABTEC). Cummins mainly powers DEMU Rakes. Not much in Locomotive Markets in other parts of the world too.

China ne ek breakthrough share kra hai apna ki voh log apne diesel engines mein 53% thermal efficiency achieve kr chuke hai. Jiski vajah se voh fuel consumption AND CARBON emissions 12% tk reduce kr paye hai. This is very impressive I must say. Humare desh ki maharat ice engines mein kyu ni ho rahi?? EV's ki taraf bhagne ke liye inte utavle kyu hai? Infrastructure banana ni pr gaadiyan electric wali puri chahiye. Ek cheez mein acha krlo bhai. Verna phir na ghar ke hoge na ghat ke. Hydrogen engines pr bhi kaam kiya ja rha hai and I fully support/appreciate that decision. Pr dont neglect petrol/diesel too. PLS KEEP WORKING ON THEM AND IMPROVE!!

Diesel engines have come a long way since the anti-Diesel policies started. . I wish to see a future with hybrid diesel engines powering cars to big trucks in India. . BTW, my Honda car runs on diesel and gives me exceptional fuel economy in mixed usage. I have clocked it between 26kmpl to 40kmpl. No petrol engine can claim this kind of efficacy even in hybrid mode.

Thanks Gupta ji for sharing information about Cummins. They are father of diesels. Diesel has always been my preferred choice and I have lot of love and respect for diesel engines. As for the government policies towards diesels, I would say it's an apartheid like attitude. If diesel is bad, other fossil fuels are not better either. One way or other they all pollute. Even electricals have serious environmental impact.

Cummins had a partnership with erstwhile Kirloskar , Kirloskar Cummins Oil Engines for DG sets even before collab with Tata . Tata used B series engines which are for pickup trucks in US , it was 6BT , an OHV design from the mid 80s . Cummins in 1213 SE trucks was crap, had lot of issues with oil thinking . New Tatas have switched to ISB engines which are modern , displacement is still 5.8 L , a medium size pickup truck engine in the US market. Tata Daewoo however use L series engines , with higher displacement. BEML Tatras , BEML dump trucks also use Cummins engines. Cummins uses series B, C,N to denote application.

What you very obviously forgot to say is that even before Tata's collaboration with Daimler Benz ended Kirloskar Brothers had collaborated with Cummins and started manufacturing these engines in India. Before that Indian made trucks like Bedford and the petrol engines being replaced on imported trucks were exclusively UK brand Perkins P6. Real heavy duty large capacity Leyland trucks, 18 tons and higher, used Meadows Diesel. Another English product. So give credit to who deserves it. The visionary industrialist Mr. S.L. Kirloskar who started Kirloskar Cummins in Ahmednagar, I believe.

Diesel engines are meant for industrial uses primarily thanks to the viscosity and density of diesel fuel in comparison to gasoline and kerosene. Diesel engines ke compression ignition aur high compression ratio ke kaaran woh zyada powerful, zyada mileage, aur zyada bhaari kaam kar paate hain.
