Tbh I think you're focusing on the wrong points here. I think the time period for the creation and prominence of these things (2013-2015 ish), and the community that came with it is the better thing to blame here, rather than the mere fact that these were mlp grimdark fanfics. The mlp community around this time was full of edgelords (mostly from 4chan) who made stuff for shock value, and one of the best ways to do that was to be purposefully offensive. Not to mention that general awareness around mental illness and neurodiversity was...pretty bad in comparison to what we have today (though even now it could be better), so it's no surprise that those two things got together and made a terrible, horribly aged baby.

It happens to all autistics, even the characters poorly written to inmate us ;-; It's still insane to me that some people will look at a working class citizen, a full on adult with responsibilities and respect from their peers, and go "Awwwweee look at the lil babie and their cutesty lil attempts at being a big person like me!" Like straight up Derpy is the main mail carrier for all of ponyvile and even if she has bad days, she is still carrying that economy on her back. Pinkie Pie literally works in the Bakery and rents the flat above it, all the main ponies has adult jobs and lives. So to see Derpy singled out in that way always rubbed me wrong as a kid. My first intro to fanfics was creepypasta fanfics of all things, so the horror genre is where I was introduced to the MLP fandom at large and was instantly reluctant to engage with the series or fandom at all after. I personally get into fandom first, media second, and it took me almost years to finally be able to enjoy it as an adult now. I remember my cousin trying to get me to make ponysonas with them as kid and I dreaded it, now I do it for fun! There's more to the fandom them it's early days, so much more welcoming and kinder. Still drama of course as all fandoms do, but still I'm happy with it how it worked out. Here's hoping more autistic folks are able to find comfort in MLP again, especially any fellow late diagnosed and/or self diagnosed people too :)

As one of the mentioned 10-12 year old kids with unfiltered internet access, I can confirm that yes, it fucks you up. Especially if you're like me and went out of your way to listen to the REST of Reitanna Seishins stories, mlp or otherwise. Long story short a lot of fanfiction I should not have been listening to (yes, listen. I listened to the audio versions that the author did on their own channel) and there are a SHIT TON more than just two Derpy sequels. There's a whole extended universe with flashback stories featuring the pie sisters who then join in on the main story, side adventures that act more like torture porn and add nothing to the overall plot, and even a mini series set in the universe that follows Babs Seed after her debut episode, going back home and killing her three bullies (who are really more like tiny war criminals than actual bullies). All in all the entire Muffins saga easily surpases 11 hours, and thats only including the stories that Reitanna READ on their channel, there's more that they never recorded for. So yeah, uh.. I unfortunately know FAR too much about Muffins than I'd like to and to have my past be brought up in a video like this (which is amazingly delivered btw, great writing and the comedic moments hit), while unsurprising, was a bitch slap

Muffins is actually an entire saga that's like 30 chapters long (also poorly written, by a grown-ass woman) and I don't know about the other writers mentioned here, but the writer of Muffins is uh... *extremely problematic.* I have personal experience with the she-devil, and there's an entire rabbit hole. Also, if you're curious, the pronunciation of her username is Ray-tah-nah Say-shin And uhhh yeah, I was one of those 11-year-old kids who discovered Muffins back in the day due to unfiltered internet access. I was one of the people who read/looked at fanart of these mlp creepypasta things when I was a kid. I liked them lol. thats not to say that it was fine that I could easily find this stuff though cause I know it actually scared a lot of kids and also a lot of "grimdark mlp fics" were like... very obviously thinly veiled fetish shit lol. Man, there were whole fanfics that were horrible fetish material and I unfortunately got exposed to them as a 12 year old. I always had dark curiosity (I guess you can call it?) and wanted to read the worst of the worst when I saw people talk about it. Two fanfics that haunt me to this day are “Derpy’s Finest Hour” and “Sweet Apple Massacre”. The latter being an AWFUL p*do torture p*rn.

I always preferred the concept of Rainbow Factory as a kid because it was at least somewhat less gorey than this (In my perspective) but cupcakes certainly is a classic amongst the mlp creepypastas. It's crazy how many darker and or more sinister takes of these characters come up when at the end of the day it's a cartoon for little children who like colorful ponies. Not that I mind NOW as an adult, but as a kid...it certainly didn't help me sleep at night pft.

Seeing this in my recommendations was quite the surprise. Cupcakes was... technically my introduction to horror as a young 13-14 year old. And I was lucky I was at LEAST that old to have found a rather graphic (and since lost to the ether) animation. It scared me admittedly... But then I started being drawn to other MLP horror content. My Little Amnesia, Rainbow Factory, Butterflies, and of course Rocket to Insanity. I never actually read most of these HOWEVER... One story/series to spawn from the legacy of Cupcakes went on to HEAVILY inspire me as a writer: Silent Ponyville. To this day reading it and it's sequel are like CORE memories for me (I pulled all nighters to read them and have listened to readings MULTIPLE TIMES) and could honestly have a video essay of their own. It taught me about symbolism and the story concept of Healing From Trauma (and of course introduced me to Silent Hill). Like this story SHAPED me (and the same for a few others). I'd LOVE to see a video on Rocket to Insanity. As my FAVORITE (and arguably the best) version of it was a long running comic on Deviantart. You can actively see the artist's style form as you go through it. And I especially love how it set out to answer the question of WHY Rainbow was having the nightmares in the first place. It takes some turns that I adore!!

As a child who was in the fandom and was groomed and desensitized the cupcake animations, this video in my recommended was whiplash. I’m slowly getting back in the fandom because I did enjoy it before things had gone…not good in my later teens. Either way, this video has some amazing editing and I can’t wait to hear more on your hyperfixation in this. As for the cupcakes being gone is due to the author writing some…suspicious stuff. They started writing stuff about the cutie mark crusaders having *relations* with the adult ponies. They wrote a short about the three minors having a three-way?? There was a video that covered a lot of it but I would have to find it again. Edit: so the sus stuff written was by cupcake_survivor. They were caught writing a lot of fetishy stuff with the three minors. :(

If you think the Muffins Saga is already insane, then you're only scratching the surface with everything that happens in the series. Strap yourself in because this is gonna be long af. Apple Bloom and Derpy aren't the only ponies involved in Pinkie's crew "The Bakers". Pinkie's sisters, Limestone and Marble, are also involved, though in the story they're referred to as Inkie and Blinkie (their fannon names at the time). Reitanna however wanted to include Pinkie's third sister who was only mentioned in one of the books at the time, so she made an OC called Minkie Pie. Minkie's backstory had her trapped in her parents' cellar for 20 years because they were incredibly religious. No I am not joking. One chapter involves Inkie killing a Mary Sue OC called Stella Burst because she wanted her perfect fur. It's nothing too interesting unless you know the story behind this character's creation. Stella was originally made for Reitanna's friend, but after a dispute over whose DA account she'd be posted on, she wrote her into a chapter of Muffins as a way to get back at her. Sometime after Apple Bloom gets her cutie mark (which in this universe is an apple with a knife stabbed into it) by killing Applejack, the bakers would eventually try to kill the rest of the mane six. They only manage to get Rarity though, as they're caught by police when Fluttershy escapes. However, only the pie sisters are arrested so Apple Bloom and Derpy get the help of Babs Seed (Apple Bloom's cousin) to break them out, leading to Babs becoming a member of the Bakers. This was originally supposed to be the end of the series, but fans pressured Reitanna into continuing the series. The last 6 chapters in the series were major jumps of the sharks. After forcing Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle into a rigged torture game copied from some horror movie, they enact an actual ass terrorist attack where they wipe out all the guards and hold any living ponies hostage in the abandoned castle in the everfree forest. At one point, it's even revealed that Pinkie manipulated Apple Bloom by attempting to endgame herself when Apple Bloom didn't want to kill someone. And there's the final chapter "Sting" where a spy sent to infiltrate the Bakers fails and gets brutally killed. It's also possibly the grossest chapter in the series so if you plan on reading it, just know that there's a lot of unnecessary stuff at the end for seemingly no reason. And somehow, this isn't even half of it. Another KZbinr called Rainbott made a video talking about the fic and they do a better job explaining it then I could in a single yt comment.

Cupcakes genuinely scared the shit out of me when i was a kid, to the point where i stopped watching the show for like a week lol. Now as a grown adult looking back on it this shit is goofy as hell lmao, but i do appreciate it for inspiring so many others to write great horror mlp fics, not every fanbase has this wide selection of grimdark content, it's honestly incredible. Wow seeing this is whiplash, I was obviously very into MLP when I was 10-12 not so much anymore. I was however hugely into Creepypasta (I have fanart saved to this account from 2014 around the same time I was into MLP and YuGiOh ) but the cupcake animation was particularly scary to me. The muffin saga, not so much. I specifically remember my friends in 5th grade calling me a psychopath for actually enjoying horror and not finding it scary. Cupcakes was the first mlp creepy pasta I have ever read and still enjoy to this day. Muffins I enjoyed too until I got older and realized Muffins is...horribly written in so many ways especially Derpy's portrayal and as a teenager I knew it was gross.

The portrayal of Derpy in muffins is actually very problematic It uses a lot of negative stereotypes and the use of the r slur in most conversations where the character is brought up is upsetting to say the least

hi thank u so much for this video :)) im autistic and im starting to think that one of my special interests happens to be cupcakes and its spinoffs, particularly the muffins saga (like you wondered about kids with unrestricted internet, that was me. i grew up with muffins). thank u for not being harsh to these stories, i know theyre heavily flawed but they have a very special place in my heart and with autism it can be hard to hear someone think negatively of your interests LOL.. also i think its funny how you said you didnt realize how many muffins stories there are cause if you combine all of the official readings, it goes over 11 hours... yea..

This is an awesome video!!! I got into Mlp Creepypastas a while back and have been stuck on the hyperfixation since. And it actually started cause I learned about The Muffin Saga's existence. And it's kinda a... guilty pleassure of mine. Especially as a disabled person who loves Derpy. The series is... a mess, but one I kinda love. It's crazy to believe how many different sequels, alternate endings, and other fan creations from Cupcakes. The story ain't that good, but it helped araise a major part of the Mlp fandom. And I love the Mlp horror scene, especially recently with all the infection AUs, it's really cool!!!

I read Cupcakes when I was about 10, and I'm actually surprised to hear there was a ton of Derpy-centric sequels. She's always been my favorite pony and I was obsessed with creepypasta/grimdark stuff so I'm surprised I never found out about the Derpy ones. ... & it's not related but I always loved her original voice. It was an alternate version that had Pinkie being manipulated by the next evil-doer freed from what was supposed to be a permanent prison, show-style. Dude was basically the god of sadism. Oh god Muffins 😂 My favourite of the sequals and the rabbit hole that it is. Its poorly written by a very shitty author but has a special place in my heart. I remember finiding it when I was like 12? Maybe younger pff I know you've already had a lot of comments about it but its a very batshit insane read if you wanna. Or you could listen to the audio books, I know someone on here reposted them so you don't need to give Rei any money There is also an archive for all muffins videos along side some by a different creator who doesn't have anything to do with Rei but just likes muffins Its a read I only reccomend if you wanna have smth to laugh at and critique. Tho I'm sadly actually very invested in the story hah I'm even making my own sequal to Cupcakes called Stone Cold Pies, which is inspired by Muffins. I remember talking to a guy called Sprinkles who claimed to be the Sergent Sprinkles but didn't want Cupcakes to be what he was remembered by so he kept it on the downlow. Anyway, I didn't interact much with him but he seemed pretty chill, and I talked quite a few more times with his now-wife. They seemed like a pretty sweet couple and I wish the best to them!

YESSS A FELLOW NEURODIVERGENT MLP FAN WHO I'M GUESSING GREW UP WITH CUPCAKES!!! Heck yeah!! :DD Well I wouldn't say I necessarily 'grew up' with them, I definitely shouldn't have been watching fan animations and other Cupcakes related stuff as young as I was, despite like every video containing content warnings and saying how it isn't for kids QvQ Cupcakes still has a special place in my heart, especially the Muffins series ^^ I have so many memories of the official playlist of the series series in order on the Creator's channel (Yeah I again ignored every warning about how they aren't for kids, which was a lot of warnings I was ignoring) around 2014 or so since that's around when I first discovered FNAF and the first game was first released and I have a lots of memories of listening to her cover of the first FNAF song by The Living Tombstone in the different character's voices! :3 Heck I even still listen to it from time to time! ^^ They may of course be flawed, but they still hold a special place in my heart. :3 While we're on the subject of Cupcakes, I remember writing a..not very good fanfic back when I was around ten that I don't think I ever finished, but I do remember writing. I remember it was a sort of sequel where Pinkie killed Twilight haha ^^' I'm glad the current fanfic I'm working on (Which is a Shipwrecked 64 fanfic, my current hyperfixation :D It's a really great game, play it if you're a fan of horror games, it's only 8 dollars USD on Steam >:3) is a lot better than my very first fics ^^ Definitely seeing Cupcakes related stuff when I was little definitely, uh, wasn't good for my mental health, that's for certain ^^' I'm glad nowadays I'm a lot better mentally, leaving me with only the stuff I don't think were caused by Cupcakes ^^' Seeing people talk about gore and stuff and explain it still messes with me though :( Especially seeing Cupcakes animations and stuff like that. There’s a fanmade prequel and a couple of sequels to Cupcakes made by Knackerman, who is famous for his Something Sweet to Bite series. The prequel is name “Pinkie Pie: A Family Recipe”. The fanmade sequel that takes place after Cupcakes is called “Blue Hour: Twilight of the Cupcakes.” There is also a sequel after that called “Blue Hour: The Age of Twilight.”

this is a very indepth video and definetely deserves more views. i think my only gripe i have is you saying the issue with derpy was raised by soccer moms, it just feels a bit dismissive to the actual disabled people who found issue with her portrayal and instead portraying it like crazy karens being bigots.
