I hope Ranger Gord was OK. I've learned a lot from him. Actually nothing. Keep your stick on the ice.

Yeah too bad that fire tower is on his last legs. There's not many of them left. I remember a few years ago. You're up to one good stuff. I was up in one years back and southeastern Ontario the ganoraska Forest. They had one but they took it down. It wasn't safe. That's what happens to him quite the client but it was interesting. I'm glad I was got a chance to go up it. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦

G day from Kit-Waterloo area Boy u can see why forest fires start with all that dry wood being there. Ths
@OutdoorRob6 ай бұрын
Ya lots of ground fuel and because they don't let the fires burn for the most part, it gets worse and the fires burn hotter with all the fuel. Thanks Kit-Waterloo guy!

Lake Helen by Nipigon. A long skinny lake that's part of the Nipigon River System, they used to do log drives through half of it where the River runs. Thanks Fred!

Hey bud I have one of these on my bucket list. Where in Northern Ontario is this one?
@pleinairbarnettoutdoors6 ай бұрын
I'm also curious
@OutdoorRob6 ай бұрын
Up near Hearst, ON. There's still quite a few standing but not too many that are easy to get to.

@OutdoorRob I'm interested in one near Sudbury. Not sure how to spell it but it's something like Isphantina Ridge. It is the highest.elevation in Ontario. I heard it is hard to get to though.

Ya, it's a 7km bike ride, then 7km hike up hill to get there. Did it when I was younger. This is it... kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6u2ZaOqjrGqr6s

Is the bridge open to drive on or is it posted with a warning sign? The tower roof was build well to survive the fall.
@OutdoorRob6 ай бұрын
Didn't see any signs at the bridge...yet. Ya, well built roof for sure, too bad the rest of the cupola wasn't built that well LOL! Thanks Man!

It's a shame to see the tower cupola collapsed but I'm actually surprised more of them have not done so. What year did Ontario go away from fire towers and switch to detection aircraft?
@David-jl1pk6 ай бұрын
Fire towers started being abandoned in the 1960s. There was one north of where I live that had quit being used by 63 if not earlier.
@OutdoorRob6 ай бұрын
Hey Doug! Most of the Towers were decommissioned in the late 1960's and a lot of them pulled over and dismantled in the 1970's. There was a program to clean all the sites in Ontario of the towers and they were destroying 4 or 5 a year up until Doug Ford got in...thanks Doug for saving the towers for now.

Thanks Ted! A big part of our history here in Ontario, so it's nice to see the ones that are still standing.

Wow where was that? Got the coords for it. I'm a Forester and would love to see it or any other that is still standing. I think I was born out of time, should have been a ranger.

I was born at the wrong time also LOL! This is between Longlac and Hearst, ON. It's called the Mulloy Fire Tower. Check out my Fire Tower playlist... kzbin.info/aero/PL-5iyVaNyNhHFCV3rTjkXb-giwnWT4M_c Thanks David!

I wonder if the same wind that toppled all those trees took the Cupola off as well? Or maybe the twisted tea folks used the Cupola as a parachute to get down! 😂 Are you going to visit any mines this year Rob? Those videos are a treat!
@OutdoorRob6 ай бұрын
Ya, more than likely the wind that went thru there and took down the trees took down the Cupola also. It was leaning pretty good when I visited it about 4 years ago. I don't have any plans for mines this year. It's starting to get really hard to visit the mines with all the Lithium exploration going on. They seem to be taking over all the old sites and gating them. Thanks Andrew!
@vancemarin80226 ай бұрын
I wonder how much longer the tower will stay standing before it topples .
@OutdoorRob6 ай бұрын
The Tower portion itself is the thicker gauge galvanized steel, so it will stand as long as the concrete footing last, which is quite awhile. The wood unfortunately rots and falls off. Thanks Vance!
