Nice work. I never knew what factors play into the decision to use elbow instead of curb, so thanks for the explanation. Congratulations on 1K+ subscribers!

You're welcome! I definitely think that contractors are doing themselves a disservice by not looking into switching to an elbow every time if possible

I’m just courteous, I love doing it that way, but how do you know the roof where you set the unit can handle the weight.

I turned down a roof curb jod recently I didn’t want to fool with the roof curb. But I would have love to have done it if I had done it the way you did. I like that. I replaces a wall hung unit with a package unit one time and that’s basically how I did it. It hadn’t occurred to me to do what you did on the roof job. Again, I like that.

What brand of package heat pump for a roof is most reliable for southern AZ? For a package 3.5 ton package heat pump, we’ve been quoted American Standard, Day and Night, Rheem, Ruud, Trane, and York? The Trane dealer wants to install a curb and the American Standard guy wants to install a new air return instead of using the existing return air that flows through the sheetrock walls; these two were much more expensive than the rest. After watching your video, we won’t let anyone install a curb. Any tips would be appreciated be appreciated.

Trane or Day are my recommendations for value and Bosch is my recommendation for a premier system. Can't comment on there estimates since I don't know what's involved or your current set up but 95% of the time I don't recommend curbs

The Bosch inverter heat pump sounds like it a great idea, especially when it gets cold and our heat pump would stop blowing out warm air, but being made in China and finding parts if it breaks down is a deal killer. I’ve been told that Trane is more complicated to repair, so labor costs more even if parts are under warranty. I like the design of the Trane package units and some people swear by them. Maybe an ICP product is the way to go. Thanks for the reply and have a good one!

Does anything sit inside the elbow the moves/function? I just changed some air filters, we have two returns. We have the heat turning on now and we keep hearing a taping noise. When we remove the hall filter it stops when I removed the bedroom one which is branched off from it I assume. it still makes those noise if I remove the other one. I went in the roof and could hear it from the elbow but the AC unit wasn't making abnormal noises. Can you point me in the direction into a diagram how these conect and if there is anything between the unit and the filter that might make this noise?

typically there is nothing inside of the return and the noise issue you have sounds like "static pressure". Try looking into that first.

How are you going to insulate it? Phoenix gets hot, especially in the sun.
@themoderntradesmen93522 жыл бұрын
are you referring to the ductwork? the elbow is Insulated on the inside from the manufacturer with black insulation, the unit itself is also insulated inside.
@davidnull55902 жыл бұрын
@@themoderntradesmen9352 ok. The video didn't show the elbow.
@themoderntradesmen93522 жыл бұрын
@@davidnull5590 I think if you watch it again there's a point where you can see it upside down and look inside.

If the wrong curb was installed what would happen?
@themoderntradesmen9352 Жыл бұрын
because curbs are much thicker to withstand the weight they are not very easily modified. You would pretty much have to order a new curb if it's way off

I'm headed to AZ is RSI a good school? Thanks for sharing!!!

I've heard it's a good school but since I did the apprenticeship route and got 99% of my training on the job I wouldn't know first hand. I've got a video on whether you should go to school or not. check it out and lmk what you think
