This type of thing makes me so sad. As a child, we lost everything when my stepdad left us and my mom got laid off. We lost our house and everything in it. I went to live with my grandparents with one small basket (like the white one in the video) of clothes and my teddy bear. All our stuff was thrown away or sold to the highest bidder. This brought all of that back to me.
@kellyngrey495014 сағат бұрын
@@victoriagreenfield5781 Sorry you went through such a rough childhood. Storage lockers are 1 of 2 things: People who can't let go if junk and pare down on stuff Or People going through an upheaval in their life where they find themselves without a home or secure place to live. To be honest, these are my least favorite videos of his. Years ago he'd said he didn't like or want to do storage lockers for reasons you mentioned. He'd had a similar childhood. But him having sold the store, he has to acquire items somewhere.

My sister paid to get my cousins’ stuff out of hock. Primarily she wanted the letters that my grandparents wrote to each other during the war…WWI. All typed with CCs. Three years worth of history. They had not even met yet. It was a “write a letter to a soldier” campaign. Worth the ransom paid. There is mention of a coat my grandmother had her eye on and was saving for…I have a photo of her in that coat with the open galoshes very popular at the time.

Tip for moving out in a scramble: rather than wasting money on storage keeping junk, post on Craigslist, FB Marketplace, etc. A friend was moving and had a lot of items she didn't want to fuss with, keep, pack, etc. So, she put it all on a table in the corner of her garage, took a picture, and posted, "Moving out. Each item is $5 each." She got a couple people, but then a guy showed up, made an offer and took all of her stuff. Another day she put a bunch of stuff at the end of her driveway - treadmill, scrap metal, nightstand, etc. - and posted a pic that said "free," and it was gone in 45 minutes. Better to sell it dirt cheap than waste money on storing stuff you're not going to come back for. Alex said it best when he said a fast nickel is better than a slow dime.

Thank you Alex for having decent human respect about going through someone's stuff. This one was a hard one. Clothes and most toys have little resale value but are such personal items. When an apartment is being abandoned sometimes the landlord can't reach the tenant so they put all their stuff into the storage unit and then the tenant has to pay for the storage and claim their things if they want it.

I love Alex, his family and his treasure-hunting adventures! I don't know why people complain or can't watch another channel. I have always enjoyed adventures and finding things. When I used to live in my grandpa's house almost every day was a treasure hunting day for us kids. We would go through the attic, the garage, and Gramp's workshop and find lots of really cool stuff like the ones Alex finds -- he rarely finds such as vintage items -- anyhow, Grandpa and Grandma always kept us on our feet and away from the TV. This series by Curiosity Inc. and Family is so much fun! I'm sure Alex's children will pass down the treasure-hunting memories to their own children someday, too!
