Part 15. The store is looking sweet! Candy arrives! General Store

Whew! After getting our zoning approved Alex and crew continue with prep work getting the store ready for our grand opening. Setting up the candy display, fixing a pinball machine and getting the piano bar in place.

Your positivity and persistence has paid off by not listening to the negative people. You have managed to cross many big hurdles that most people would have let it stop them when they were told NO, but you just kept pressing forward. Like you have said many times we are only given one life why spend it in a job we hate. Don't be afraid to live your dreams and stay positive. I think having a guest book with a comment section in your store would be something really nice to have that others could read how far away people have come to see your store. There was a place in South Dakota that had a map and a little box of pins that you could stick into the map showing where you were from something like that would be fun too. My hubby painted signs back in the 80's and he did a sign that said "Goverment Checks Cashed Here" and even hung the sign on the stores building. Week later the owner contacted him and said a 10 yr old kid came in and said, "hey Goverment is spelled wrong, it has 2 N's" lol

Curiosity i have a tip for all your wooden draws get an old candle and rub it on the runners it keeps the draws opening smoothly and stops them from jamming. Also works on zips. Try it folks it works well.

I love how you can look at old cars and things like your pinball machine and figure out what is wrong and how to fix it! Even the new (old) store. Many people would have looked at the structural issues and been too intimidated to buy it. You looked through the problems and saw your dream general store! You fixed it up, doing much of the work yourself, and you have surrounded yourself with talented craftsmen who are also handy optimists, and before long, your store is fantastic! And of course, look at what you did to the Potter’s House! You saved it from the wrecking ball and made it back into a beautiful home! And you saved Mary Borgstrom’s legacy, and told the world her story!

Still bothers me my friend's granddaughter took a hammer to her mother's piano who passed away smashed it into pieces. She said she didn't play it anymore and it was taking up too much room in her apartment. I was kind of hysterical that she did it told her she could have donated it to some place. She saved the inside wires it looks kinda like a harp but still so sad to see it. Now what to do with it so big and heavy.

LOL I love it and the title for it. I think it would be fun to really show how much their parents are able to accomplish so much and still have time to raise three amazing children. I know stay at home moms with only one child and they aren't even close to being well behaved. It's so sad to see how they are raising their children I don't think they are going to be able to handle them as they get older. They don't believe in any kind of punishment no matter what they have done wrong. I know so many young people that have no respect for their elders because of the way they were raised.

Dave did a great job on the sign. The misspelling was a blessing in disguise, in repainting it he extended the flair of the “C” running it through the loop of the “r”. That change actually makes the difference between a pretty good looking sign and a great looking sign. In my humble opinion that is. It was just the little tweak that it needed.

Us sailors who own sail boats, we leave 1 lightbulb burning 24/7 inside the boat to keep the inside of the boat dry. Also at the $1 store you can purchase cartons of dehumidifiers to take out excess moisture in the air. These work well too.

Congratulations on getting the Zoning Variance Alex. The new store is looking great. It was neat to hear you talk about old " Johnny Lightning " cars. When they first came out they were manufactured at the " GRIES " Reproducer/ Dynacasting Corporation in New Rochelle, NY where I grew up as a boy in the 1960's. I would walk past the Gries factory on Second Street whenever I walked to my best friend Anthony's house. We would jump into the big Dumpster outside the plant at night and find all kinds of cool stuff. Unpainted Johnny Lightning cars that I assume were rejects. Gries also made those Teeny Tiny Tool Sets you would get in the old Gumball machines in a big clear plastic ball. I had many of those tiny hammers. pliers.scissors. screwdrivers, and folding clasp knives.

So absolutely amazing! Beyond congrats! This is breath-taking!I love the red on the store name panel, it creatively solves the brown-blue colour problem and visually ties the sides and front together in a really pleasing manner. The piano bar is outstanding, you owe Josh. For the grand opening, I'll bet your new neighbours would appreciate a potluck party in the Western tradition with live music. Even if the potluck is just cookies and finger foods.

Candle wax on your drawers will help them move easier. Also dehumidifier in the basement should help, Love your videos. Piano bar looks great, store looks fantastic.
