A local "bottle collector" went in there with a small dozer and managed to wreck the site., but there were still lots of interesting things left. You sites a really full of big stuff! Workers in my city were doing utility digging on property that once was owned by my ancestors over 100 years ago and ran into their buried trash! It was so interesting that it even made the newspaper and the artifacts are now at a University. Ya know Alex, I think your city dumped that garbage in the river, not to get rid of it, but to add fill for the levy that you were walking on up top!!! That whole riverbank looks like it was engineered; I know the Army corps of engineers did the very same thing around Yakima Wa. to prevent our city from being washed out in about the same time period!! An awful lot of the US infrastructure was build during the depression!!! With practically free labor, using the WPA a lot of work got done for room and board and maybe a nickel a day!!!! I don't know if Canada had any thing like the WPA, but I'd bet that they did, and hungry men will use a pick and shovel for a meal, willingly!!! To my way of thinking, it would be very interesting to look into Edmonton's history in the 20's and 30's, you might just find it amazing!!! The debris is NOT from a flood, it would be spread out a whole lot more!!!
@audreytjennings85805 жыл бұрын
Grumpy old Marine yes I believe you are correct. I live in Louisiana and we have the Mississippi River and levies and canals all over the place and landfills because we are below sea level and this is what we do here we dump in landfills debris that can help build it up. And that means a lot of history is along the river banks all over the world, well at least the United States and Canada
@JudyHart15 жыл бұрын
And the PNW, especially, is still enjoying the WPA projects from so long ago. I live in Goldendale, and there’s plenty of projects still around. Now, if we could do a levy (or something) for Rattlesnake Ridge.
