I guess I'm lucky. I find Stagg pretty regularly (quarterly so far) at my local Total Wine for $57.99. The store has only been open for less than a year so I'll see if it maintains the frequency and price.

@@jamessocal8946 that's another thing about Total Wine I've learned over the years. The allocation of bottles is so diverse from store to store. No 2 stores I've been in have had identical stock. It's always a different experience. At least in California.

the stagg 23c is pretty good by itself but if you drink it next to batch 22a , the 22a blows it away.I wish the nose on the 23c transferred more to the finish but thats the biggest flaw on it. i have a hazmat stagg single barrel pick at 143.4 proof thats suppose to be better then both but havent cracked it open yet.
@SantanaTheeGreat5 ай бұрын
Which year was that 143.4 proof released? I don’t see it on the GTS record of releases. Regardless, as far as the older GTS, I’ve had the 2007 144.8 proof and the 2011 142.6 proof and both were amazing. If I had to pick one I would go with the 2011 as it definitely had better profile and a unique dark cherry flavor unlike any other I’ve had. It was also the only single barrel pick to be aged 18+ years. Cheers 🥃

@@SantanaTheeGreat i was referring to stagg jr . its a single barrel pick by a store here in california. its the 2nd highest proof stagg jr thats been released behind Specs in texas which had the highest. i havent been blessed enough to try any hazmat GTS yet. hoping one day though lol

Nice review! I was fortunate to get 6 bottles of 23b a while back for 42.00 plus tax each. I traded one for one and got a 22a, 23a, and gave a couple away to friends. Then at BevMo I picked up a 23c for 72.00 bucks and later at BevMo I picked up a Stagg Jr 2017 batch for 72.00 I waited about 1.5 years to get one and now I have 5 batches plus one back up of 23b patience paid off for sure because all the local stores are 200.00-300.00 Cheers!

the only thing i have found that can come remotely close (IMHO) is SOME of the single barrel higher proof store picks of wilderness trail. some claim JDSBBP, but i tend to disagree with that. when i come across a wilderness trail store pick im usually inclined to grab them, especially since Stag is near impossible (thought i did grab one this year...)

The first two batches of Stagg Jr were awful. I didn't even care about it for years because those first two turned me off so much.
@Vortex19885 ай бұрын
I've always found Stagg to be kind of lacking in complexity. The flavor intensity and concentration is certainly there, but it's basically grape Kool-aid and oak. The spice component is usually buried by the fruit and wood. I think you could find a good ECBP batch or Russell's barrel pick with more complexity. Balance is hard to argue too with a 2-note flavor profile that is dominated by grapes. Maybe that's just batch 14 though, which is the only batch I've tried so far. That being said, I think uniqueness is up there, even when compared to other mash bill 1 bourbons. Nothing tastes like Stagg does.
@onggia8505 ай бұрын
I agree. Stagg Jr is basic bourbon flavors cranked up to 12. A great bourbon still though.
