My Mom is really into genealogy and has proven on paper her descendant on her dad's side is Basil Hayden. Long story short my parents have been into bourbon since the late 90's. My dad has a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 20yr from 2004 or 2005 that he got for I think ~$100 at the time. The shop they got it from had FIVE bottles of it. But they couldn't Phantom paying $100 for a bottle so they got one. My Dad poured it for us after I got home from deployment yesterday. It is hands down the best Bourbon I have ever had (slightly ahead a pour of WLW I had In Australia on deployment). Love your guys content! Please give us a tour of your collections!!! Great advice on getting good pours for reasonable $$. Had a EH Taylor BP as well for about 12 per 2 oz pour from a big chain. Weller FP for $10 a pour where me and a stranger decided to take half the bottle down and become fast friends. Forget that at a whiskey bar, they know what they have.

Independence Day is a great movie, Dutch. I second the non whiskey bars for good pours at decent prices. There is a bar up here in MN that has 2oz Stagg Jr pours for $8. Amazing.

I totally agree on the FOMO bottles. Personally, I haven't bought as many unicorns or super expensive bottles as this channel but anytime I've paid much over MSRP because of FOMO I've been sorely disappointed. There aren't many bottles worth paying hundreds of dollars for and when you pay double... triple.... or worse you really feel the sting (unless you lie to yourself). Until you have Bezos money I don't see the point in spending multiple hundreds of dollars on a single bottle. There is other whiskey out there you can drink until you finally land that limited release you want at a decent price.

I feel your pain. I just paid a king’s ransom for a pour of Wm Larue Weller only to be severely disappointed. This was after I swore off FOMO/allocated bottles for about the past year. This sealed it for me - back on my self-imposed embargo. Not seeking out bottles anymore. Drinking far far less - maybe 1-2/month. I’ll live vicariously through these guys.

I would love to see Glenmorangie 18 Revisited - as long as you're careful to not under-rank it this next time attempting to correct the prior score! I just recently picked up a bottle of it for the first time, and I do like it a lot and think it deserves the gold. But it would rank lower for me than the Dalmore Cigar Malt I've also been working through, which you guys were pretty split on. It'd be really interesting to see how the 18 would rank on a re-review. Maybe get a newer bottling and get through the neck-pour / give it enough time to open up and review that newer bottle?

I was hoping Dutch would defend special reserve until he said 70-80 dollars. Here, it's still $28 vs $23 several years ago. Around 30 its still one of the best, and IMO better than 107. Also Dillon needs to try his other Pappy 15s if he thinks his best bottle is post Stitzel juice. Sounds promising. Although the 2014 15 yr is amazing, I've still never tried the new bottlings.
