@Proger13 10 The only one looking stupid is you coz if you knew the real working of ISRO then you wouldn't have commented this.... Isro works under ANTRIX corp. which receives funding from the govt. which it invest in isro...which in turn earns money from launching satellite from other nations at affordable prices and this is how govt of india earns money from space industry which it further spends on people(since it's still sort of socialist). Secondly, isro doesn't do fancy stuff like building a spacestation like USA... simply bcoz it doesn't need to... India uses space to earn xtra bucks to uplift the poor not to show off... That's why Isro is establishing itself as an expert in satellite launching (hence 104 satellite in one go) since it's a lucrative market and more and more nations would want to send their satellites for various purposes and if india presents them the most affordable prices with an impeccable track record... It will lead an industry which is in a nascent phase. P.S. Making reusable launch vehicles is the next step in the same vision of being cost effective.

Isros Reusable lauch vehicle RLV TD is a hybrid vehicle that combines the complex technologies of both an aircraft and launch vehicle, one on top of the other - a configuration never attempted before. The main objectives of the RLV TD are to reduce cost of launch by increasing reusability and to increase reliability by achieving a Two Stage To Orbit (TSTO) capability. It is a completely different approach from SpaceX and Blue Origin. As you know sucessful flight test of rlv td test was conducted in 2016. Isros RLV TD (is a minituarised version of the actual reusable launch vehicle )was configured to test many very complex technologies like symmetrically placed active control surfaces, materials like special alloys, composites and insulation materials. Crafting its parts was very complex and required incredibly skilled manpower. Many very high technology machinery and test eupiment was used to build the vehicle. Hypersonic aero thermodynamic characterisation of wing body. Evaluation of autonomus navigation, guidance and control schemes plus integrated flight management, reusable thermal protection systems and re entry mission management were all sucessfully demonstrated in 2016 test.

The #1 goal of space travel is to become a multi planetary and perhaps a multi galactic civilization. Big rockets are harder to make (you can look it up but there is a ton of math explaining why) and SpaceX can do it for 40 million USD which is ridiculously cheap. They made the Falcon 9 only on Musk's 179 million he made from PayPal and that is why with billions SpaceX can do more. Government is slow and sluggish but companies have competition and need profit therefore maximizing the incentive for innovation. Blue Orgin is also leagues bejind with more money at it's disposal.

When ISRO came up with results, how conveniently everyone claims it because of NASA instruments. If that's the case every god Damm thing engineered on this planet is a contribution of India. ISRO, a very long way to go since it is depending on Gov funding. They planned to do 22 mission in 2019. Most of them are commercial launch so they can make money out of it and use that money for R&D without depending on Gov fund. This is the only way they can win space race against Private companies. Human Resource is not a problem for ISRO since India is one of the most talented nation in the world interms of high quality Science, Maths and Technological skills.

high quality science, Maths and technological skills? are you sure? read the facts of Indian Engineering colleges progress.
@peakxv13
@peakxv13 6 жыл бұрын
The actual fact is what you do after graduating from college is determines your success. This is true for all countries not just for India. There are millions of engineers in India. Assume only 1% of them are brilliant. If ISRO able to hire 1% out of 1% brilliant engineers is far more enough to drive the R&D and Innovation. A successful & efficient organization like ISRO don't need thousands of Engineers and Scientists. Few hundred brilliant people are more than enough. Also, don't think only the Indian education system is bad. There are many flaws even in western education. In my opinion college degree just helps to find the first job. But later your success will be determined only by how much hard work you will put in? how much self-study you do on daily basis? you can master Science & Maths even after graduating from college. In my experience, it is very easy to do after college rather in college.

I can't imagine why he wouldn't mention ISRO, they do amazing things with resources limited by capitalist constraints. If ISRO's ambitions were solely driven by nationalist drive and military ambition, it would eat up an enormously larger budget. Those motivations attract parasitic entities. This is the cancer that NASA is hereditarily being eaten by in flagship projects. Look at what NASA can do with a purely scientific objective on Mars or around the outer planets with robotic exploration. Imagine if the heavy-lift rockets were similarly motivated. Well, you don't have to imagine, there is Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy.

@@satyendra85 it's funny to even think than ISRO can be bigger organization than NASA. Because both have different visions and roles. ISRO does not have budget as much as nasa, but what isro does best is utilize every rupee by solving problem with use of INNOVATION. Whereas nasa solves problems with MONEY. For example nasa creates rockets which takes them from earth to moon DIRECTLY in one flight in about 1 day. Whereas ISRO takes 5-10 circles each of earth and moon before reaching moon in about 45 days. In future I don't see fight between these two. But instead more collaborations between these two on various projects.

ISRO's objective was, is, never will be competition with anyone. ISRO is prudent, efficient and productive because their main objective and priority was always to serve people with minimal resources(Direct and Indirect technology bans). It's not in ISRO's DNA to compete with anyone. India can't compete with the Space budgets of USA, EU, Russia and China. Even if some people assume there is some kind of competition in a few technologies, ISRO probably will take a few years more than others to achieve mastery and success. Economic sanctions and technology denial regimes were put on India by americans to crush Indias economy and technological development. Yet isro has made India a space powerhouse. Moon landing was fake. Nasa and their conspirators are masters at this. Nasa spent 135 billion dollars to fake moon landing.. only thing that landed on moon was nasa imagination. SpaceX is so far ahead of the others now, half way through 2020 - in spite of the Coronavirus crisis - I can't see how it can ever be caught. Falcon XI (edit: XI?? I mean IX of course) launches virtually ever two weeks, successful manned flight, Falcon Heavy proven commercially, Starship development rocketing ahead (ho ho), Starlink close to activation and, well, who knows? That is an unbelievable performance and rate of development. It does not matter what Jeff Bezos' net worth is. That's based on Amazon's market cap and how many shares he owns. They're notional assets. Real assets take satellites and astronauts into space (and build electric cars people want). People - and governments - invest more than just their spare cash in those things. They put their faith in them. And that is priceless.

It's clear now that it's SpaceX. Now with Starlink about to come online with private beta testing and then public beta testing this year. SpaceX is launching a couple of hundred satellites every week, and Starlink is going to provide broadband internet to the entire planet. Estimated revenue is about 40 Billion per year, double NASA's budget. This will make SpaceX the space superpower, and will not need to rely on NASA for any funding in the next few years. @Nil-js4bf
@Nil-js4bf 6 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I would have thought the reverse to be true. The BFR is designed for full and rapid reusability and interplanetary travel so it's pretty late game material. ISRO and some other upcoming small rocket companies are currently cheaper to use if the payload is light while Falcon 9 remains the cheapest for heavier payloads. However, if SpaceX really manages to get BFR right in the short term and the cost to launch drops down to fuel cost, other companies would find it hard to top that. Throwing a random 20 year time span doesn't really mean much. Are you suggesting that the other rocket companies are currently working on a solution that will take 20 years to complete and will reduce the cost of launch even further below the cost of launching a BFR?
@shintsu01
@shintsu01 6 жыл бұрын
I agree that being an early adopter can be beneficial being the first to control the market. However, I expect that the customers will not be mature enough to benefit the product on day one. Another risk I see is that other companies may have more budget to improve the economy of scales, or maybe add additional services SpaceX will not be able to facilitate that makes their offer more useful. So once the market gets mature its possible other companies are at the same level or even exceeding SpaceX. Also while this is a big unknown yet. Space elevators may supersede BFR for a lot of work. maybe that is way beyond 20 years but I am always hopeful :) see for example the announcement that Obayashi Corporation made.

USA's CIA has tried multiple times to sabotage ISRO's efforts. It even succeeded in delaying our cryogenic engine by more than a decade by falsely implicating the lead ISRO scientist in the cryogenic project in a false case of information leak to Pakistan. So imagine what USA and China will do once the Indian government increases the budget to 10 billion USD.

as an engineer I have to say not only is there no such thing as a "reusable rocket market" only the normal satellite launch market where everyone competes against each other. there is also almost no point in building reusable rockets and the reason for that is cost. if you launch about 12-24 rockets a year, as most companies in the business do, you can simply look at it as low volume production and then you will find that it makes almost no difference if you build 2-4 rockets a year and reuse them or if you build all 12-24 rockets new. that's because of fixed costs of machinery, human resources, development and property. because it doesn't matter if you build 4 or 24 rockets, you still need about the same number of people simply because you need all trades and skills, machines and a place to build the rockets. the only difference in cost between building 4 rockets and 24 rockets is raw material like aluminium, steel, fuel aso which is almost neglectable, which leaves suppliers the only real difference in cost which means if you can make most of the rocket yourself there is almost no point in using low performing reusable rockets (falcon 9 can lift only about about half it's max freight into orbit if it's used in the reusable mode) that are also more expensive to develop and build compared to one use rockets. so all this nonsense talk about 21st century and all that hype is just uneducated nonsense by fan boys. the reason spacex is cheaper than others is because of their manufacturing which is more on par with a normal manufacturing plants than a space tech clean room facility. so they can cut costs there. spacex can also cut costs by manufacturing most of the rocket in house instead of paying through the nose to subcontractors and suppliers as per usual in the industry. in the end if you look at whats going on in the launch market today then the europeans are still market leaders by a long shot and with ariane 6 costing about half of what ariane 5 did, this will most likely not change anytime soon. in the end if we want to go build bases on the moon and mars we need to lift a lot of mass into orbit on one go and that within our lifetime, to developing complex large reusable rockets for years and years that then can only lift about what they are actually capable of lifting is just nonsense and it will keep us back instead of enabling us. to build a base on the moon all you need is about 4 rockets the size of saturn 5 per year (2-3 manned missions for 4-6 months each) and 1-2 freight missions for supplies and building the base. 4 rockets per year is what a minimum rocket manufacturing facility can easily put out per year. if you would make the rocket reusable and only build 1 per year then you would still need that same facility, same machinery, with the same number of people working there so you have all the skills present, only that they would be standing idle for a couple of months. anyway. think about it before you accuse me of being backward.

SpaceX will initially be the leader, but once Bezos gets serious, Blue Origin will be the leader. Money matters. Still I don't think Bezos gets serious until Musk lands on Mars. SpaceX will almost undoubtably rule the early market for spaceships. BFS’s will rule the skies, at least for our first few decades as a spacefaring economy. When flights to Mars become routine in maybe 20-30 years however, SpaceX will probably release some of its principles of the BFR/BFS design for other companies to use as Elon was never a money thirsty guy, and him and spaced will probably be well into the design process of BFR v2.0 at this point, to push humanity even further past mars.

Proger13 10 You’re right, it would be ideal if the two would work together, since both of them are making innovative spacecraft with full reusability in mind. But what really concerns me is how Uncooperative nasa is being, using some of the smartest people on the planet and billions of $ to work on the SLS, essentially a buffed up shuttle but with 0 reusability and will cost 1 billion per launch instead of helping spacex or isro building their inexpensive and efficient spacecraft.

Something I would like to start a conversation about is this: when there was the comparison between the Blue Origin engine and the Merlin engine (about 5:50) to compare and contrast Blue Origin and SpaceX, there wasn't mention of the Raptor Engine, which if I am correct, is significantly more powerful than the Blue Origin engine. Also, am I wrong in saying that with this engine it puts SpaceX ahead of Blue Origin and perhaps ISRO, since the Starship would be a more powerful rocket and, due to its design, more versitile?
