I still find it amazing that a man raised a full grown tiger in a apartment building, I think in New York. That thing was huge. It was confiscated, sent to a sanctuary here in Ohio. Owner went crazy and released all the animals and than committs suicide. Unfortunately the tiger had to be put down. I can't remember why they couldn't dart him. It was scary for the people having predator animals on the lose. Resident in a near bye nursing home kept saying they could see a tiger looking out the window in a upper floor apartment., maybe the 4th or 5th floor. No one believed them until someone else seen it and called the police. The story can be googled.

Why would you want an exotic pet? Narcissism is all I can think of. If you want a companion, get a dog. It is called mans best friend for a reason. They've adapted to humans for thousands of years. Their brains are basically rewired to live with us and understand us.
@brandonluther80

But the cruelty is no different with a dog or cat. They are taken from family and placed where they don't want to be. So if it's okay to be cruel to dogs cause we say they like it then why can't someone else say the animal of their choosing likes it?

@@brandonluther80 have you seen dogs? Almost all of them are living happy lives. They regard their owners as friends and family. Dogs have been selected for millenia. To be docile and happy around humans. Also we humans understand the body language of dogs, we can tell if they are happy. Most dogs I've come across live blissfully happy lifes and show it. There natural habitat is around us. The proto dog that survived in packs in the natural world is basically gone. Most dog breeds would severely struggle to survive without their human and as some report have shown, go to great lengths to get back to them. On the other hand - I get taken away from my familie all the time. It first happened in Kindergarden, then school, then work, then I moved out completely to live with someone that is not related to me. Sometimes I wanted, sometimes I didn't, often I learned to enjoy it how things are. On the other hand as those places are fit for humans - I wouldn't be very happy to be thrown into condition that are not fit for me. Let's say, living in the savanna or jungle, as I don't have many usefull skills to survive there as it is completely unrelated to everything I experienced. If I buy a dog and seperate him from "his family" he will have been around humans. Probably inside a house, not unsimilar to his new circumstances. He will adapt very easily. You could make an argument about the ethics of breeding pets in general. But if you do that and follow through consequentially you have to arrive at a anti natalist view. If putting animals into a world that causes suffering to some degree to them, then so is putting other human beings in it

This lady may have rescued a lot of animals but I think she is terrible, look at the size of those cages. They are far far to small for the bigger animals eg lions, they should have bigger cages it's cruel. Maybe she shouldn't rescue so many and instead make her cages bigger and more realistic eg have grass they can walk on instead of hard concrete.

Coming from Africa made you an expert in every field? Arrogance is (or was in Martine's case RIP) alive and well. Every enclosure is a small concrete slab surrounded by a chain link fence in which the Department of Fish and Game deemed as "serious cage violations". Animals pacing and rocking back and forth is abnormal and a sign of stress. Human greed, ignorance and arrogance is wiping out EVERY species on the planet. Including us humans.

They should be careful how hard they push...these people are what pay their bills. Realistically pet ownership is a responsibility and the type of animal doesn't matter. I would not have a wild animal but I know many people who do, and safely. I bred dogs for years, but I wouldn't recommend doing that either if you don't know how. You have to educate yourself and learn how to do what you are going to do. Education, not restriction. That's the real key. There's no problem with owning an animal when you do the things necessary to care for it properly. I think its even important for learning love of wild animals when you see a captive one as a pet, even in a video because you see more of the personality of the animal. People's love is what keeps people from callously destroying the wilderness where they live. Think of the few pets not as prisoners but as important ambassadors for their species.

@somethingcleverrrr Have you ever looked up fatal dog attacks in America? The records date back to the 1800s and there have been far more fatalities from pet dogs than chimpanzees. No one has made a law banning dog ownership, but they have made leash laws to protect the public. I'm not saying people should own a wild animal, but I am saying they should have a right to, and laws should only be there for public safety not infringement of rights. This particular woman was not responsible with her animal and of course something bad happened, however, many more are very responsible and have had no issues. The same applies with dog owners. Most people keep their dogs fenced or on a leash but you know there's always that one person letting their aggressive dog run around loose in the neighborhood charging people and explaining it away saying the dog is excited or friendly and even yelling at you when you tell them it should be leashed. It isn't right to punish people who are responsible because of the behavior of irresponsible people.
