Wild animals are just that, WILD! They belong only in the wild, and owning one is just selfish and asking for trouble... eventually. Thankfully, the video was finished with Tippi saying just that, especially after having owned them as pets because she has learnt from experience, especially with the film Roar and Melanie getting injured. Unfortunately, I don't believe they get enough species appropriate enrichment in these small cages. Sure, they're enclosures are bigger than most people give them, but do they get to run and climb stumps and stalk their prey like they would in the wild. I somehow doubt it from what we saw of the size of cages they're in. However, sanctuaries like hers and many others out there now are necessary for all those poor cats that were raised and treated poorly in the wrong hands of circuses and private homes and would otherwise have nowhere else to go. Whether a big cat or small monkey... leave them in the wild where they belong.

There have been people who have successfully taken care of while physically interacting with both tigers and bears for years, and some who have been attacked and eaten by their 'pets'. Only time will tell. I am a firm believer that nobody should ever own any animal they can not physically control, and that would include dogs.

Ms Hedren is so right. Apex predators are literally serial killers. They have no remorse, sympathy or empathy with their prey. They are made for one thing & one thing only, to take out other creatures as quickly & brutally as possible so they can feed themselves & their young. If you have ever seen a lion kill a zebra, you have seen an animal brutally kill a weaker animal with total disregard for the screams of its prey. Miss Hedren is trying to express just how dangerous her big cats are, how quickly they can attack a person & that there is no remorse &/or guilt on the predator's part if it kills its caretaker. Predators couldn't survive if they had any empathy with other creatures & their suffering as that predator is eating them alive. Predators must be able to kill without feelings & human beings may be just another kind of prey at some point.

One thing you notice with the first two is the ‘it’s very dangerous… but not for ME’ which really shows their mindset and reasons for keeping these animals. Tippi on the other hand was the opposite, you can see that she’s had to change her mindset and relies she is NOT above being hurt. Her point about knowing everything about your animal to give them what THEY deserve really shows this as well.

@@nadinemeier2010 Oh yes I definitely don't entirely agree with what she's doing (keep in mind that I haven't rewatch the video so excuse me if my memory is a bit faulty) .In general I believe that wild animals should be allowed to live as close to their natural life as possible (whether that's 'in the wild' (ie in nature reserves) or in a facility that can best provide that). So yes, personally those cages seem particularly small but my comment was meant to point out the fundamental difference between her mindset and the others. This video seemed to be aimed at people who generally believe in/are on the fence about owning wild 'exotic' animals - my comment was similarly aimed. Hope that makes sense :)

BUT FOR DUCKS SAKE DONT PUT YOUR NEIGHBOURS AND THEIR ANIMALS AT RISK. If you cant 100% contain him, he needs to go. As for Tippi, i was delighted that her attitude was so spot on. Even getting a hamster, research a creature before you get it. If you cant meet its needs for a happy healthy life. Dont get it! Dancing with the Devil if you ask me. As long as you do what they want, probably you'll be okay. BUT, they don't have human brains and they don't think like humans. What makes sense to us makes no sense to them and vice versa. There is also the mental health factor. Can a wild animal truly be happy in captivity? Like that big bull and bison who needs a normal structure of females around him. The bears are not sterilized either and those seasonal periods change their mentation. Yup, dancing with the Devil. Those tigers in the first lady's care love water and will sit in water for hours during the heat of the day. I don't see any water anywhere. That grimace was not happiness. Bison are herd animals and will do anything and everything to be with a herd. To have a lone bison is cruelty.

Okay but you can’t put a blanket over all exotic pets with this. I keep exotic pets, and it’s nothing like this, because I keep ones that were bred in captivity, are many generations removed from wild populations, are not massive, are not even mammals, and have needs that can be met in captivity (which, like I said, they were born into). I have a pair of tree frogs, a dart frog (they are not poisonous in captivity), a ball python (no they do not get massive, they max out at 5 feet), and some invertebrates (like isopods, a millipede, and spiders). My snake would not make it in her native range, as she is a morph- in other words, she deviates from her species’ natural coloration due to a lot of selective breeding. So she doesn’t have proper camouflage. In fact, there are BELs, or blue-eyed leucistic, ball pythons that are solid white with blue eyes. Look it up. How are those meant to live in their native range?

Though they're not specific about how they acquired Wild Thing, they got him at just a couple of months old. Usually at that young age it's usually a rescue because mama was sick and died. I'm just going to give the benefit of the doubt on that one. But release Wild Thing to go be the alpha buffalo somewhere? Where? There's not much by way of vast areas land where the buffalo roam, and the deer and the antelope play. So just where would you release him to? A sanctuary? Basically he's in one now. And he's even got a little house that he can walk through and lick the walls of. He's got a lot of room and a mountain of love. They even let him tear stuff up because that's what he does. I understand you wanting to see the buffalo or living his best buffalo life, but with limited free area he's likely just be killed upon venturing onto someone's ranch and attacking livestock or the people. The one thing that bothers me is that it is in a buffalo's natural instincts to stampede. It's what they do. I believe some of his grumpiness comes from not being able to stampede at will. I think it would be cool if they could cordon off some of their property and let him stampede. I bet he'd slow down on ripping up the gates and whatnot if he could expend some energy running across an acre or two in wild Buffalo fashion at top speed.

Keeping wild animals as household pets is a REALLY bad idea. Unless you’re actually running an approved sanctuary or zoo, and it’s safe. Remember that chimp that tore off the woman’s face? The animals that the guy who went berserk in Zanesville, OH and released all kinds of dangerous predators into the community then shot himself with the idea the big cats would devour him? I think it was because his wife left him or some other misfortune, but obviously, something was more wrong with him. Or the man eaten by his own pet alligator? Unpredictable, and dangerous. So let’s hope people like that woman keep their animals safely confined. That fence doesn’t look very strong to me!

But what is the exact definition of "exotic"? And where does one draw the line? Would peafowl, which have been kept in captivity for merely ornamental reasons for a few thousand years (and are considered "semi-domestic" since they still exist in wild, natural, unchanged populations) be considered exotic? What about ferrets? Hamsters and gerbils? Swans?

If someone with something like 100 different animals is taking fantastic care of them, and gets help when needed so if she's not there the animals are still cared for, I would define her domain as a "sanctuary." But even the best zoos and best managed wildlife areas always have accidental encounters between humans and wildlife that end badly. Bonnie amazes me and all of the animals caught on camera just look sensational from palomino mare to bear to elderly dog. But I wouldn't want to live within a mile or two of her place. I think most people realize that there is going to be a risk no matter how well it's done. And some people shouldn't be allowed to keep a betta fish!

so...has the film maker never heard of animal hoarding? there is no way a single human can have an actual relationship with 20 dogs. there isn't time to train, or even interact with them, let alone deal with behavioral issues or even notice health issues. ad to that that she's literally gone at least half the time to drive a truck. now ad 7 horses on top of that. anyone who has a horse knows that there is no way a single human can handle, train, ride, groom and care for 7 horses appropriately. then ad bears (inadequately contained) and tigers (inadequately contained) and the happy picture painted by the film is in reality a disaster, with a house full of dog feces, equines that are barely trained and poorly maintained, and wild animals that deserve so much more than this lady can offer them. plus, on a truck driver's earnings, there is no way all those animals are receiving regular vet care. it's just bonkers.

If all the people in the world Tippi would be my pick to do what she does. The fact that she learned the unpredictable nature of the big cats and called a happy to any interaction speaks volumes of her character. Some may say, "oh how sad that the lion/tiger can't have their ear scratched or belly rubbed is sad. How can you run them off that affection?" The think is, they are not being robbed of anything. The are actually being given back their proper life. They don't roam about the wild looking for a human to run their belly or scratch behind the ears, what she took on were animals that had been raised like that, unfortunately. When she saw a couple of near misses happen she wisely gave them back their lives. Look how large the individual areas they have. Aside from being in the wild thus is the next best. I've been a fan of hers since I was a little girl, I always will be. Not so much a fan of her daughter though 🤭🤭. She's alright but just not my cup of tea as a person.

One woman was playing with a young Tiger, basically the age of a adolescent, but still over 200 lbs. and the Tiger started flopping around because it was excited to play and it jumped too high and whacked her right in the face and arm with it's back or hip. It broke her nose bad and broke her arm knocking her down. The cat continued to play until it realized something was wrong and she came out of the enclosure. They are just too strong at 300 and 400 lbs. I have a degree in animal science and a lot of animal experience. I used to work for a biologist (on the side while I was in college) and had to take care of his menagerie when he went out of town. His safety feature on the bobcat enclosure was broken, so I had to distract the cat with meat at one end as I snuck into the cage to change his water and food dishes. I’ll never forget the moments I was alone in that pen. The only weapon I had was a broom and my own feigned confidence. The bobcat almost always cornered me and tried to attack. I would slap the broom against the wall, yell as loud as I could, and bluff run towards him. Thankfully, I always won. Now that I’m older and creating an animal sanctuary of my own, I feel confident that I’ll never bring home anything that could harm another person. Bringing home a predator does not just put you in danger. It also puts your neighbors, family, friends, and potential employees in danger. I have the knowledge and experience to adequately care for a large predator, but I know that’s a commitment that I would never put on someone else. This means never going on vacation or taking a day off. Even if all goes well, that animal could escape. After being said person that was left alone with a wild animal that was wondering where his main caretaker was…. I personally don’t want the potential risk of someone’s life or their pet’s life in my hands. That bobcat did eventually escape onto a neighbor’s property. They had to use a tranquillizing gun to bring him home. The wound from that shot actually ended the bobcat’s life. Unfortunately, a love and obsession for animals is not enough. Even more unfortunately, training and credentials doesn’t guarantee that an owner is going to be consistent and responsible. Exotic animal ownership is a controversial topic for a reason. Accredited zoos and USDA licensed facilities are important and necessary, so I am not in the mindset that animals in captivity is always evil. I am however very critical on where to draw the line. The first woman seems like a sweet heart that loves her animals. I don’t deny that. Still, I wanted to come through my phone when I saw her bears’ diets. Adequate diets and enclosure conditions are a REQUIREMENT if you are taking on the responsibility of being a caretaker to a creature that can’t speak for itself. If anyone wants to follow along on my journey to bring animal education to the Austin, TX area, follow our instagram! WaywardWildlife ❤

The only time large exotic animals should be personally owned/managed is if they cannot survive in the wild. Even then, sanctuaries tend to be better for them, with more range to roam and more natural lifestyles at the hands of people who know their needs. Beefalo, buffalo, and other large herbivores ride the line, but they still need a carefully maintained diet and wide open spaces to roam.

@DonnaBrooks
@DonnaBrooks Жыл бұрын
Keeping exotic birds is bad, too. For every live bird that gets trafficked, many more birds are killed during capture & transportation. In the Everglades they now have a huge problem with pythons being an invasive species b/c some not so bright people decided to have pythons as pets & then when they got too big to handle, they released them into a habitat where they didn't belong. There should be NO WILD ANIMALS as pets, in circuses, in roadside zoos, etc. ALL wild animals should be left in the wild & the LAND, WATER, & ECOSYSTEMS in which they evolved & for which they are adapted need to be PROTECTED from pollution & the destruction of human encroachment, including the spread of agriculture (palm oil plantations or growing feed for livestock, for example) & land for livestock.

@@DonnaBrooks You are very wrong regarding the pythons in the Florida everglades. It wasn't people who owned pythons and once they got too big released them into the Florida everglades. You are spreading misinformation!. The real reason for the python problem in Florida was hurricane Andrew that completely destroyed many reptile garden type exhibits that these pythons were kept at. Once these places were decimated, the pythons which survived then escaped into the wilderness, and started populating. STOP! with your ignorant misinformation spreading. Yes, of course the media had a large part of spreading this misinformation, because they were both being used to spreading these lies to further their/and Peta's agenda. True, there are many people who don't properly take care of animals nor are responsible. This could be said about all types of animals though. It's just that the majority of people have been ignorantly taught to fear and hate snakes in general. You are apparently BIASED and thereby pushing your biases into your comment. Do thorough research on the real reason for the python population in Florida, before you go half cocked spreading the lies that the media and Peta have done. I know that I won't change your mind. As the saying goes... It's easier to deceive someone, than to convince them that they have been deceived.

the bears are awesome, the standing trick while feeding cant say is the best idea. but you have to respect someone with that much love for her pets.. love to know which animal she had first, after the dog... beautiful that she thinks of everything before keeping the animal.. also no doubt that if the bears were unhappy it would not take much for them to leave. the one in the tree like a person checking it's nails lol.. too much.. very happy bears. also want to know what company she trucks for so i can have that job. she must be killing it .. another good sign is all the dogs and cats get along so well without mom home. What she's done with animals at the sanctuary she started many years ago has been nothing short a blessing for them. Were the bears being fed spinkle doughnuts snd pop tarts? Is that okay for them? Surely that isn't great for their teeth? I did notice lots of fruit in the enclosure but in the fridge they had yogurt, butter, ice cream for the bears is this just treats/enrichment? Genuinely curious I know very little about bears and nothing about keeping them in captivity.

@@tonyprice2256 I was surprised to see what appeared to be pop tarts and/or doughnuts/cake being fed to them. It may not have been those things of course as you couldn't really see what she was giving them but it didn't look like fruits and veggies. I guess it's perhaps like dogs and cats some people feed them what would be described as junk food because they want to show that animal love. For some people food is love. I hope that the bears are both healthy. :)

@@nicola6530 It is natural for bears in the wild to consume a lot of calories before winter to fatten up to survive several months of hibernation. But she is keeping these animals in unnatural situations. Bears don't find very many pop tarts and donuts in the wild. And what makes it worse is that wild animals get a lot of exercise. These animals get none. These animals will become diabetic with all that sugar, and yeah, not good for the teeth either.

@ellalella1

Bears can eat sugar, they will eat honey from a bee hive for example but it is not something they usually eat all the time. So giving them a single donut is not a big deal but all the time, nope. Most of the sugar bears eat come from wild berries which are not normally that high in sugar but bears CAN eat a lot of them. Given they are in captivity, I would probably not give them any added sugar but I am not a bear expert.
