I think it started with legos for me. I was always a kid that loved building and creating my own thing. I had a serious passion for robots and japanese cartoons. Then Toonami came and showed me Gundam Wing. I went out almost immediately and found the model kits and explained to my parents how it was like building a Lego kit. From there i just addicted to building them. At one point i built almost all the HG Gundam Wing Model kits. Then i found out about zoids and that is what opened me up to customizing these model kits. I have always been into are and engineering. Gundams and Zoids felt like art and mech robots merged together to make something truly awesome. As a teen/young adult i learned that i had OCD, ADD, and mild ADHD. Building gundams allowed me to calm down and focus for the first time since i stopped building legos kits. Building them made me feel something that i didn't feel a lot because of the issues i had in school...happy and relaxed. So now that I am an adult I love building them when i need a break in life and just want to relax. Building these kits makes me feel like a kid again and allows me to express myself artistically too. Also now as an adult i get to meet new people and discover more gundams. With social media I get to see the art people can create with them. I constantly push myself to learn some new way to customize them and make mine unique. So that is why i build Gundams.

Bit late to the party, but here goes. I use to play tons with legos as a kid, and even early teen years. Had a mix of regular lego sets, and Bionicles. Following the instructions, building up the sold product, only to take them apart, throw it all into a huge pile, and let my imagination run wild. During college, I found myself under a lot of stress, and was having a hard time balancing my home (still living with parents), school, and work life. Friendships were falling apart as my high school friends and I grew apart. As a result, I started watching anime to keep my mind off things. And eventually I remembered I use to have a hand me down toy of the RX 78, and all I knew was it was a gundam. So I looked it up, and realized there was a lot to watch. Almost got overwhelmed, but decided to start with one series, 00, and fell in love with the mecha. Eventually I was going through series after series. All the while I discovered there were model kits. I became interested as I wanted a model of the Exia. Looked at tutorials on how to assemble kits and decided id get one. Found a local hobby shop, and I would go twice a week for a month to see what they had in stock. Eventually, one day, I took the leap and grabbed an HG exia, a pair of nippers, and a hobby knife. Went home, opened the box and spent an hour just looking at the runners in awe. I began making my first cuts, my first snaps, and I became extremely pleased with how it turned out. I didnt stop buolding till nearly 2 in the morning. Once finished, I took a step back and admired my work. I knew it might not be world class, or even professional, but I put together that Exia. And I was damn proud. From then on, I've built HGs, MGs, RGs, a PG, even non gundam kits. I'll take breaks now and then ,as now a father, time is not all mine. But when I need to relax, I always turn to something in my current backlog. Building just brings me to my happy place and I love it.

+1 toonami kid. I'm a mega car/ motorcycle guy and into racing competitively. #1 reason i love making beautiful pieces of art that people put their souls into creating. Gunpla has been a great artistic outlet and easier on the budget relatively (while I save up for racecar parts). Something about putting yourself into a unique piece of art that impresses me, and heavily relates to the custom car/motorcycle world. I love seeing crazy designs from all over the globe, especially at the gbwc level. And building skills is never a bad thing, from old school ww2 modelers to awesome youtubers like yourself that share your skills for the world to inherit!

1:01 Yep. Arrived at Dunkin Donuts so that's going to require a pause. 🤣🍩 Doughnuts > everything I totally remember as a kid having the original Transformers toys as well as getting a bunch of those Japanese robots from various shows. This was back in the 1980s and 1990s. As a kid, I was happy, but as I grew older, I realized that they were not as good. So of course when I started getting into _Gundam_ through (of course) Wing while it was airing on Toonami, I was hooked. But it was really 00 that _really_ got me into _Gundam_ and it's where I started getting GunPla kits from various stores; many of which are unfortunately shut down & out of business. I was able to see Wing, G, Seed, Seed Destiny... I think that was it through Toonami. I remember when Zoids was on Toonami back then. I totally remember that first time when I imported my first GunPla. It's around then when the Internet started getting bigger. I started with the BB Senshi kits, and some HGs. But I think it's when the MG GN-001 Gundam Exia came out that really sparked my love of GunPla. As I saw more and more Gundam shows, I bought more and more model kits. These days, I'm not buying as much and I've recently had to sell a bunch of my backlogged kits. I'm buying only personal _must have_ kits. As to why you should buy/build GunPla? Well, check out a Gundam anime or read a Gundam manga and you understand the desire to buy the model kits too. Personally, I don't think it really matters how old you are. Just enjoy whatever it is that you enjoy. I'm into GunPla, video games, anime, and manga as a hobby. I doubt that I'll ever fully grow out of them. I like the aspect of buying these things & enjoying things. I also like the cognitive benefits these hobbies provide. It keeps me engaged, and constantly keeps me mentally organized. With things like GunPla, you need to be paying attention to what parts you need and the its orientation before actually snap fitting the parts. That sheer feeling you get when you finally finishing a GunPla, a video games, etc... It's a very good feeling of accomplishment. I definitely agree that Gundam/GunPla is a growing business. Even back in the early 2000s (wow I feel old 🤣), Gundam was a dead franchise pretty much. But through people importing kits, and then through companies like Nozomi Entertainment, Bandai/Bandai Spirits, BlueFin Distributors, etc... Gundam/GunPla is on a growing trend. If you've never built a GunPla nor seen an anime, check out an anime first from beginning to end. Then buy a kit and see how you like it. 13:47 Oh hi, Carl! Oh wait. You don't build GunPla? 😐 13:54 🤦‍♂️ "DON'T BE LIKE CARL. BUILD GUNPLA." Facts! 💯

Let's start off with the subtle flex of hanging out with UrAvgConsumer :) Aside from that, I built Gundam models because of the mechanical nature of the models. They have complex joints and construction, and can be posed incredibly. It's the closest I'll ever come to having a giant robot! This is the only hobby I've ever had that has stoked my creative side, so I'm loving it.

I'll try not to go to in depth with thos, but why I build gundam is just that, therapeutic. growing up my mom was in and out of the psychiatric hospitals, going to visit mom in the nut hut after school , or the times she wasn't in she was at home abusing alcohol lost in her own pain and mental illness not taking care of herself. Father was always at work or home fighting or separating our family even more due to his brainwashed religious beliefs. The anxiety and worry I was given from my childhood lead me to bad things as I grew older. Drugs, alcohol, dropping out of school, sex and very dangerous situations put me on a hard stressful course of life with no useful output of that energy I needed to let out. Then, I found a Gundam series and it provided an escape , a way of accepting the things I cannot change, out of my control. The feelings in the gundam series, the emotion, and the mecha design themselves were beautiful. Then I discovered there were GUNPLA KITS I could build!! Sobwithout taking up a page more of my story, THERAPEUTIC, YES. I'm so thankful to everyone to sunrise, bandai, gundam fans, and all the builders in the world. It changed my life. How wonderful it is to love Gunpla!

Great video. I started like i expect most U.S. fans started. Being a 90s kid, i grew up right when Toonami was on FIRE!!!. Started building then as a kid, all HG Gundam Wing Suits. Back then i was young enough to build them, play with them, break them. and then smash them together to make new kits after breaking pieces lol. As i got older i stopped building but still loved Gundam and kept up with the shows. Then one day believe it or not i watch the first build divers series and that made me want to build agian so i picked up my first ever Mastergrade, wing zero EW. Now ive been building steadily every since and a huge backlog to go. My other half luckily also got into with me so its something enjoyable we do together. i build because at its core there is something super special about turning those simple parts on the runners into full beautiful works of art. its super gratifying to look at your work and see what you have accomplished. Especially as you grow and push your boundaries further and further. Different from action figures there is an inherit pride in what youve built because youve crafted it. i agree there is also a very calming nature to building gunpla, almost therapeutic. i can go very long hours at a time before needed to be pulled away for a break. what started as cool toys for me as a kid is now a full blown hobby, or maybe addiction is a better word for it lol. Painting is now my big thing, once i have this down good ill move to scribing. So much to learn, i hope everyone gets the chance to experience Gunpla / Gundam.

Nice question! We all have to ask this question to ourselves from time to time to remind how we love this hobby. When I was very young, I really love building stuff -and building your own toy was one of the thing that blew my mind! My first kit was a very old SD back in the 90's and I could never forget how cool it was to build my own robot! Gundam was one of the anime series that at the time I thought the robot looked cool, but as I get older and learned deeply about gundam, I was blown away on how story driven it was with the characters! Back then, it wasn't about the regular "good vs evil" kinda plot! Eventually, I got hooked on how to weathering and create battle damage! Also it's very therapeutic when I clip the parts and painting the small details! Now as I create youtube videos on unboxing, reviewing, and doing tips on how to improve the details, I really appreciate how gunpla came a long way as Bandai kept improving their technology on creating this plastic goodies😍😍😍 Model building is a hobby for all ages and I hope everybody can enjoy this hobby!🤩🤩🤩 Thank you for making this video🙏🙏 Keep up the good work!👍👍👍👍👍

I got into building gunpla by accident. I used to go to this big book store that had a big section for manga and anime stuff .and they had this small section full of colorful boxes with pictures of awesome robots and Pokémon ,I never knew what they were I just assumed they were figures. So one day I went in and impulsively decided to buy a lucario Pokémon kit ,when I got home I opened it up and was surprised to find a bunch of plastic plates wrapped in clear bags ,at that moment I knows that it was a model kit because I’ve seen them countless times before in art stores. So in a moment of panic I quickly pulled them out of the bags and I saw that the instructions told me to cut the pieces out .my dumbass went instantly to ripping them out with my bear hands .... and it had a lot of stickers . In the end I was happy to see the end result even if it was made terribly because I built it with my own hands and it was very cheap. Hehe
