After a little hiatus, I'm back and what better way to start 2020 than with one of the most requested topics of 2019! I hope this video helps you all to start taking your paint jobs to another personal level by giving you some inspiration and confidence to go beyond what you may have felt you are capable of now.
This year will see many different topics covered as this channel grows and that includes content that is not necessarily Gundam/Gunpla realted so I hope you all stick around for the ride. Gundams will be the main focus as usual though.
Below are links to the items I have discussed in this video. Thanks for watching and please remember to hit that like button and share this video!
One of the best places to buy paints:
Newtypehq.com
Where to get your color wheel:
www.dickblick.com/products/ar...
And a cheap mixer that can be used to mix your paints:

On noting: A good tip is to add a dolop of the colour next to the notes: A good excersise to do to learn how to mix colours, is using either a pipette or toothpick, make a chart of a dot of each colour across the top and sides, and then a 1 to 1 mix of each of those colours. You'll end up with a very clear chart showing all the base 1:1 colours you can mix with your paints. The real advantage of doing this is that you'll never need to refer to the chart again, because you would've learned all you needed to learn about mixing colours in making the chart. I did this when I was learning oil colours, and it works great, and it uses only a tiny amount of paint. Another thing to remember, is some paints are stronger than others, so will take more paint to shift them to a new colour. Also reds, especially crimsons are very fugitive, meaning they will fade over time, if placed in strong light.

You should think about taking something like this, and breaking it up into a series of videos covering each of the topics you mention. Good for you, you get more videos (already made), and good for the viewer, they get quick little video that teaches them one of the topics. Your audio sounds great now. :)

Great video as always! Since we're talking about advanced finishes, do you have a recommendation for metal colour finishes like a lot of builders on yt use? They often show the metallic base they use (often "super fine titanium" or similar) but it's often brands I dont know or cant get here in the uk. I like tamiya metallics for candy finishes (thanks to your video on candies) but they're not really metal looking enough for what I'm after due to a relatively large flake and often appear a bit too matt. I dont know which metal paints would work well with a coloured top coat that wont ruin the finish like I hear a lot with alclad. Sorry for the long question, and thanks in advance!
@Curioventura
@Curioventura 4 жыл бұрын
Alclad works great as long as everything is prepped right and the surface is clean. It takes a lot longer to dry than Tamiyas but its worth it

very useful stuff in here, i used all the clear colors on an iron man 1/6 figure to get a rainbow from green at the feet to blue on the head but could not get the indigo /purple stage ,i tried red into the blue & the oppposite is this because there not true pure colors ? thanks ian.

Hi, I am new to airbrushing, and am wondering how you get such a high gloss finish? Do you do a few clear coats and then polish it? I am painting gunpla too thanks in advance 😁. Great content!
@Curioventura

Its all in the spray technique. No need to polish if you spray right

Hello Curioventura! What brings you to the Tamiya line of paints? Would you say acrylic Citadel / Vallejo paints would also work well for gunpla? Also, do you recommend to paint pieces always with a "flat" color (i.e. same color on the whole surface), or are there gunpla painters who paint color gradients, zenithal highlights or things like that? (I'm more from a minis background, but I'm rtying to catch up with the hobby! :-) PS: There are online color wheels if people feel like using them. Here are my two favorites so far: color.adobe.com/fr/create/color-wheel/?base=2&rule=Custom&selected=0&name=Mon%20th%C3%A8me%20Color&mode=rgb&rgbvalues=0.2551390163592373,0.75,0,0.04946158822213681,0.5,0.3711652636481119,0.6977780848638822,0.9282598706531584,1,0.25,0.15612139394906632,0.13636782519720364,0.12526471663080188,0.9,0.330601385877904&swatchOrder=0,1,2,3,4 www.sessions.edu/color-calculator/

Hello Yan! Their ease of use, quick drying times, quality and price. Yes both of those paints work great for brush painting them. I recommend what works for your particular build. Theres so many ways of doing things that to recommend a certain way just wouldn't work for me lol. Thank you for the links!

@@Curioventura OK, sounds good! I was wondering if they already give, for instance, a "satin" finish (and thus would save you part of the effort of sealing the model at some intermediate steps)? I've noticed Vallejo have some "mecha" branded paints. Wondering about those too... ;) Thanks for your quick response!
