People sometimes poke fun at me for how protective of my hair I am, but it's like if you spent 3 hours dry finger detangling, taking a shower washing, sometimes twice, conditioning & more detangling, plucking from your fingers & then setting aside the shedding hairs, partially rinsing, squishing again, fully rinsing, leave in, partially rinsing that out after more detangling, brief skin care, detangling, styling, diffusing, & then carefully sleeping in the cast only to wake up & apply a bit of oil & then a super quick hit with the diffuser for a volume boost, you too would protect your hard work!

3 hours? I'm maybe 10 mins prep after a shower and 5-10 mins diffusing. I don't have thick hair, but it's long. I get being protective though just because they'll frizz up my curls. 😊 It still doesn't keep random people from touching it though.

I know this is semi-joking, but I actually found out by accident that taking a break from diffusing around the 75% mark makes a big difference with my curls. It started when my son woke up one time & it took me about 10 minutes before I could continue. I ended up w/no halo frizz, a thing I struggled with for a long time. I didn't think anything of it until a couple washdays after that, I had forgotten to get my little claw clips out, that I like to put in around 75 - 80% dry for root lift & better root curl. I couldn't find them & again stopped diffusing for about 10 minutes & again got better results than usual. Long story a tiny bit shorter, lol, I now always take a 5 to 15 minute break around the 3/4 Mark. Idk, it just works for me

I'm still waiting to fund someone who says that what works for "most" curly women (seriously... why do we say girls?) works for them. Yes, it is true to say that you probably shouldn't was every day, you should probably avoid most sulfates, and you you probably shy away from silicones. But industrial chemistry is constantly evolving... there are newer silicones that cause less buildup, and gentler sulfates that can be helpful when used sparingly.

@Lu G, I have fine wavy hair too, and doing all the things she is doing makes my hair feel thick and sticky and weighed down! It doesn't look great either, though that could be user error. I can't get past the feeling of having so much product in my hair though. What is your method? Do you mind sharing? Thanks!
@Lu.G.2 жыл бұрын
@@o_O..No. I can't stand that "too much product" feel, either and I'm happy to tell you what works best for me! In the shower, with my hair soaking wet and applying upside down, I use a small amount of Raw Curls Curl Cream (which I never thought I would do because I tend to stay away from creams). Using praying hands and then gently raking it through from about half-way down to the ends. Then I use a mousse or foam (I prefer Raw Curls Styling Mousse/Foam, but I"m trying to work through some products 😂the Herbal Essences works pretty well for me and so does Innersense). Anyway, I take a decent amount of mousse and apply it the same way I apply the curl cream. Then, I kind of do a flip/flop using a flour sack towel (meaning, I grab my towel, wrap it around my head tying two corners together at my forehead and stand up straight - quickly but carefully - and my hair kinda plops on top of my head. I secure the flour sack towel, get dressed and then take my hair down (so it's only up about 5 minutes) and diffuse. Does that help?! 😬

Even if you don’t get curls and don’t want to bother with gel and diffuser, your hair will become much healthier and moisturized. My hair was falling off a lot and also was dry and breaking easily. After a month of using cg approved products it’s falling less and looks shiny and moist.
@erinlikesacornishpasty47032 жыл бұрын
She's kind of roasting her routine the whole video. It does work for her, obviously, but she also has been working on this particular method for something like 4 years. I have much less wavy hair than Courtney, but I appreciate all her advice about taking care of my hair. If you've actually been straightening your hair for that long, most of it is probably damaged enough so you'll have to cut the damaged parts off at some point. But while you're transitioning from heat straightened to wavy hair, you only really have to do a few things differently. Here's what I do: Wash with a sulfate free shampoo 2x/week, use tangle teaser scalp massager, squish to condish, rinse out conditioner. I like to use a leave-in conditioner on soaking wet hair and squish some more. Then I use styling products. I like gels and sometimes a foam, just make sure they don't have drying alcohols. I try to diffuse my hair most wash days. I think Gena Marie has a great diffusing technique video. I like to use a regular sulfate shampoo or a chelating (to remove hard water build up) shampoo once a month. I deep conditioner at that time. I don't usually use any styling products on that day. In between washes, I might mist my hair with distilled water and detangle. Then I scrunch some more. Sometimes I diffuse after. It gets easier. Mostly I try to remember that I'm making MY hair as healthy as I can. If it looks more wavy or less frizzy, that's good too 😊.

So jealous of girls who can put all that gel in their hair and not have their hair look greasy and wet for the next few days until it's wash day again. I tried the curly girl method, but my hair could not handle the gel. It looked horrible. I abandoned the gel part of the method and tried letting my hair dry in braids instead. That just made my hair frizzier than before. Turns out, my hair can only handle the sulfate free poo and silicone free conditioner with a clarifying wash once a month and a deep conditioning once a week. Now it's nice and wavy and healthy without the gel costing waking it down. It was a frustrating process of trial and error but at least I figured it out. I still wish the full method worked and I could get more defined curls that lasted more than 2 days.

You have such a good sense of humor! This made me laugh! I was wondering if you had tried Oleplex 4C. Their clarifying shampoo. If so, what do you think? Also if you have any good basic drug store options?

is it normal to have wavy/curly (haven't figured out what my hair is) and have greasy hair as well? the oil makes it fall flat and STRAIGHT two days after washing. should I just wash and do all that process everyday?

My neck hurts soooo much afterwards. And then we have to refresh flat frizzy curls on day 3 and 4. UGH, then repeat process. IT takes an HOUR.

Sooo I tried this. 1st off my curls really did become more prominent, but my hair was sooooo frizzy. Any suggestions? More oil?

If you had to choose between leave in conditioner vs gel or mousse, which would you choose? I just don't have the time for 2 products lol

Turns out i have waves 😭, but since i didnt have the products so i just shampooed my roots and conditioned only the ends and then scrunched out the water, then i scrunched out the excess with a shirt and put a teensy bit of gel. My hair would usually dry frizzy and rarely have its natural texture but this time round the waves actually were more defined and actually looked good
