All my life hair salon / hair dressers / beauty parlour aunties have only wanted to straighten my hair. It is sad there is very little to nil awareness about Curly hair and the LOVE it needs. I have now for almost three years not gotten my hair cut by any stylist and I cut them myself. My hair is now healthy with natural curls following CG methods. I understand your post salon breakdown. So much more power to curly communities and influences like you, so brave and so honest. Thank you so much. May you have curlicious curls forever. Love.

Thank you for speaking about hair shaming. I don’t have curly but wavy hair and after every bad haircut I’ve been recommended keratin, hair bonding and anything to ‘straighten’ my hair because according to them wavy, frizzy hair is simply unacceptable 😡

Thanks for this detailed video though. I so appreciate the research. These tips are awesome! . It feels better to know i’m not the only one who cries after bad haircuts😁 I also have to mention this wonderful hairdresser and owner, Geeta from Agile Fingers, a salon in Bandra, Mumbai who is the only one I trust my hair with and she totally gets curly, wavy hair and who in fact discouraged me to get straightening treatments back when straightening was such a rage. 😊

Felt like they do it just for the sake of selling their services at time! Like make the customer look bad enough with what they have so they feel it's their fault and then have to resort to 'professional' recommendations. 🙄😏 Yeah right...

Oh my god! I did a big chop at the start of my cg journey. I chose my nearest LAKME salon and I actually made an appointment and took my products with me. I tried to explain to the guy who was cutting my hair about why I use what I use, what to do and what to not do. And HE COULD NOT BE LESS BOTHERED. He tried to shame me for my products- I was using the Wow moroccan argan oil range, they have the other more expensive Moroccan oil range at the Lakme I went to- and I was just appalled. In the end when I specifically told him to NOT blow dry my hair, he made a face and told me that if he didn't then I wouldn't know wht my hair looks like dry. I was so naive that I let him do it, but i told him not to use any brushes or tools so I looked like a girl with a beehive on her head. In the end he shamed me some more saying that "Main aur kuch nahi kar sakta kyuki aap kuch karne nahi de rahe mujhe" UGHHH It was so annoying but I have my hair up mostly because of my work so it didn't matter much. Now, for my second haircut, I've spoken to my friend who is also a hairstylist and he was so shocked at the first guy and assured me my curls were in safe hands with him. My appointment is on 22th and I'm so glad I saw this video so that I can discuss more with my friend!

So I recently went for a big chop and my length has been reduced to shoulder level from lower back. And the stylist ( Part of reputed salon) was so confused the whole time as to why I am getting so much of length removed. Despite stressing on the fact that this entire exercise is so that I can have my natural texture/curls back, he kept suggesting me to go for keratin and other treatments for smoothening the hair. This comment is not to blame or shame them since I genuinely believe that they don't know anything different. Had I not known what I was going for may be I would have accepted one of those treatments but it was different this time, I knew exactly what I wanted at the end of the session. Thankyou for the video, it's gonna be very helpful for me in the upcoming months :)

Aastha Dua I hear ya ! this is why I dread haircuts. I don’t judge anyone who wants to change their natural hair texture but when I choose to embrace my natural hair I’m literally force fed these treatments to make up for their lack of skill. Unfortunately the beauty business thrives on self loathing customers. 😐

I stopped going to a local salon which I used to go to since childhood because of how consciously they would comment on your looks and make you feel less so that you availa their services. EVERYONE and their mother asks me how my skin is so glowing BUT NOT THE PARLOUR AUNTY oh no! She said "apki skin itni dull kyun hai? Facial nahin karvatey Kya" and the same parlour made.me believe that my hair is so limp and dull and useless because they can not do a good job! I mean, i was so used to my hair being called lite and weird that now when I go to the same salons, they ask me what treatment I have done for my hair, it makes me laugh so bad. It sucks that the only way they can make their money is making you feel shitty so they can come off as saviours lol, a tactic that is so engrained in our parlours that the new age salons are making money off their opposite and professional approach! I end up telling them that they are the first ones to say I have a dull face and then mention how the prices might be high at the other salon but atleast we get professional work and feeling. It's fun to gaslight them as they have done to us for years hahah

Hey Komal, I must admit that this video was very insightful. I have type 2a/2b hair (that I recently realised) that have always been frizzy. Your channel has finally made my accept my hair and inspired me to work on it by maintaining its natural shape. I have always liked the wavy nature of my hair, but never accepted it whole-heartedly because of the frizz associated with it. I have always pined for straight hair and do not remember the last time I was satisfied with my hair cut, because every time I walk in a salon, I am not satisfied with the result. Besides, they make sure to shame my hair and recommend their expensive products after the services have been delivered. The last time I walked out of a salon with a spring in my step was when I was teenager, I guess. Watching this video made me realise that I have made every mistake that you have pointed out. This video is like a mirror for my experiences with hair cut, hence, this long comment. I am so grateful for this video. I recently got a dissatisfactory haircut and I was determined to have it either smoothened or treated with Keratin, which are very expensive from salons like Geetanjali etc. As a scientific researcher, I had been reading a lot of about both the treatments, however, stumbling across your channel was a blessing because it made me realise that I have still have a lot more to explore before giving up on my hair. All your suggestions feel very genuine and come from an authentic place. Your videos on curly girl methods, affordable products for the Indian hair community have been very helpful. I have started purchasing the products to pursue the routine. I am soon going to start taking care of my hair with new-found motivation and energy and also with new products. The next time I get a haircut, I want to be smiling ear to ear!

I have frizzy hair, that forms loose ringlets and s shape waves when freshly washed. (I don't condition my hair), but the ringlets go away as I comb through them. I use minimal products on my hair and I'm super afraid of starting the curly girl routine with so many products. But I definitely enjoy watching your curly hair videos. ❤❤❤

I don’t have curly hair but I do have an unusual(for india) haircut. So my short bob with bangs hair was totally messed up by the looks salon at the mall. I decided to get a haircut there out of sheer laziness and boy did I regret it. They gave me a bowl haircut like the peasants in medieval times. This was around 4 years ago. Since then I have stuck to Tony and guy at khan market for a trim every third month. I get their most senior stylist and I stick it’s the same fella so he knows my hair by now. So my hot tip is if you find a good stylist stuck with him/her. By the way he tells me that Indians are ridiculously stuck to the same hairstyle(long layers) and never experiment. Even if the do get a shorter haircut they tend to grow them out. We are obsessed with the Bollywood ideal of beauty and it’s sad because all our women(the groomed ones I mean) kind of end up looking the same.

I feel really funny when you say we have no good salon in india which can understand our hair type. I am currently living abroad and believe me it's same everywhere. You walk in salon with these type of hair and nobody knows what to do with these alien hair. They say your hair looks extremely damaged. And offer all kind of treatments. There was a time when I actually believed them and did what they suggested for my hair. So now my hair is more damaged than before and still struggling to get a good hair cut. I started to cut my own hair now. I wait eagerly for india trips for my hair cuts. Many people in india have more or less same hair type which we and some salon people call damaged hair. But there are still good salons in india which understands what exactly we need and how to handle curly/ wavey hair. We just need to find them. I really liked your cg hair routine videos. You are really doing good job there.

I hate all the parlour aunties in india, bcuz they always just try to persuade me to do smoothening and all.. if I say no then they make a weird face. And when they cut my hair, they tug at the strands wd a comb wd such force I feel like my scalp is going to get ripped off of my head. Once I tried explaining to one of them that I want to have a layered hair cut bcuz it's good for curly hair, I even showed her pictures for reference.. but NOOOO! she did the same old thing, combed my hair, cut it in a U shaped step cut(bcuz according to her it's the only haircut suitable for curly hair) ,which looked like a bushy triangle every time I let my hair down🙂. Curls in india are shown no love or care and instead treated as a problem to be gotten rid off! FYI I am from Dhenkanal,Odisha.

The biggest problem in india is that 1st they don't know that there is a difference way to handle curly hair, and all the parlor people 1st wash and then comb it afterwards which is totally wrong. Combing my hair post they are dried kills all the curls and make them frizz ball. On that condition the parlor guys cut it 😫

If it's a dry haircut, as I said in the video, style it with the level in creamer but not the gel. If it's a wet haircut then take your products with you and let themnwash it. You should show them your dey hair before they wahs it so they know how much it will shrink

I went to the hair salon literally today. I correct the hair stylist a couple of times but didn’t want to do more as he was one of my mothers friends. When he revealed my hair I literally wanted to cry. My mom who knew my hair looked like it was before I started my CG journey supported him n asked me to shut up. He started giving me all sorts of excuses but didn’t except that he knew nothing about curly hair. He literally brushed my hair while diffusing. N when he was doing that I was bhai bus idhar hi ruk jao mera Hogya. But i was to naive to say anything and just walked out after a unreasonable argument.

Every one who walks into an indian salon, is made to look like a mannequin before they walk out. You can't have kinky hair and a full face n be respected for that. It's a bollywood inspired goofed up beauty manual.

My hair is so weight down and feels super heavy and my crown area is also very flat so i went to this salon style lounge in delhi jangpura which had good reviews online so i went there he had some knowledge about curly hair like leave in conditioners, scrunching and diffusing so i thought im gonna get a great hair cut i told him i want lairs but he started saying " Curly hair me to kabhi layers nhi karate" And i was like wht and he said ki aapke baal poore phool jaege lairs karake vese hi aapke baalo me itni volume h and my shy ass kept quit and then i just told him to give me a trim. This person didn't do anything just removed the extra split ends and took 6 hundred rupees for just a trim. Never gonna go there again. I still don't know wht to do my hair is so weight down and feels so heavy.

@DELHIFASHIONBLOGGER4 жыл бұрын
If your hair has been mistreated then before starting cg routine you won't be able to tell what sort of curls you have since your hair becomes curlier afterwards, I would suggest you look inthe mirror or click a picture of your hair and search for "types of curly hair" on Google it will show you a list and then you can tally and check if your hattern is same. But don't get carried away, alot of our patterns change overtime!

How come you have classical musicians pics in your home?
@DELHIFASHIONBLOGGER4 жыл бұрын
Well out of all of them only two are "gharana singers" and even from them I don't know if Sufi is considered classical or folk so only one is a classical singer i.e shubha mudgal ji. In short, I sing and I like to listen to music and these people inspire me so I like to have them.on my wall at all times
@nehamehtasinger56884 жыл бұрын
@@DELHIFASHIONBLOGGER oh really? U sing? Even I'm a professional singer that's why I noticed all these.. I had seen these pics in ur other video.. I thought one was Ashwini Bhide. I couldn't see properly. Anyways, nice meeting another singer.❤
