Rules I break: 1) I don't always deep condition regularly . 2)Never had a protein treatment. 3)Never did a ACV rinse.

+Maddiebynature Ok ok! I'll allow all of those except #1!! Haha Gotta deep condition girl!!! 😜 ok I'll take that back.... if you struggle with damage, want your hair to grow faster or be healthier over all.... you need to. If your hair is already good as is.... I'll give you a pass. 👌🏽😁 Hehe!! Thanks for sharing! ❤️

Some people dont understand water only method, you have to first clarify ur hair no conditioner used and massage ur scalp to stimulate sebum and rub it on the length of the hair. No products are to be put in the hair just water and ur natural sebum and its a every day

Rashad Heyward aloe vera gel doesn't have enough hold. Your hair starts getting frizzy and your waves/curls become flatter like one hour later. It works for some people, though. I used 100% pure aloe vera gel from a local brand.

Rashad Heyward also it could make your hair frizzier than normal if you live in a very humid place since it is a humectant. Just give it a go and see it for yourself I guess :)

I don't cowash AT ALL anymore.. in my first few years of being natural and transitioning I did but I did't realize how much I was stunting my growth. My hair gets build up VERY easily so I have to use a shampoo or ACV rinse. Another rule that I break is that I use silicones and sulfates sometimes.. I know it's a slap in the face to the natural hair community but it honestly doesn't really cause me any damage

Curly Hair Rules I Break: 1. I don't sleep on a Satin or Silk pillow case 2. I haven't gotten a trim in a looong time 3. I have dyed my hair within the past year, however, i didn't bleach it but, i still dyed it 🤷🏽‍♀️ 4. I also don't do protective styles unless my hair is looking super tangled and i don't feel like washing it. 5. Never pre-pooed. I honestly dont see the importance. 6. I also don't swear my coconut oil. It honestly doesn't really do anything for my hair, but I'm going to try detangling with it to see how that works!

I don't section my hair when I put my styler in, it's just an unnecessary hassle since my hair is short. I also don't use oils, I haven't seen it do anything for my hair. The only protective style I use are buns and ponytails. I co wash and shampoo, because sometimes I feel like my co wash didn't wash my hair as good as a regular (curly girl approved) shampoo. Love you Bianca ❤️

To me there's no rules when it comes it your hair. Use and do whatever you want in your hair. Rules I break: -I use a denman brush -I use products that have mineral oils and all that other junk -I don't eat healthy at all. I eat what I want (never will I ever eat healthy just for some long hair..not worth it) -I use heat every now and then -I go weeks without washing my hair (at least 3) -I sleep on a cotton pillow case

Staying away from sulfate-free shampoo is something I don't always do. I have dandruff and need a good seborrheic dermatitis remover shampoo. I can always add moisture back into my hair. I use lukewarm or cool water to rinse out conditioner. I do feel a difference. I don't use it from start to finish.

Having curly hair is easier for me than when I used to battle it into being straight. I wash it, condition it, pop some product in and leave it to dry naturally and bam 💥 done! Having straight hair meant washing it, drying it for 25-30 minutes and then straightening it for 30 minutes!! 😱

So I'm just now discovering you a few weeks ago!! Yo this video was EVERYTHING!! I've been natural all but 2 yrs of my 35 years of living and my hair always grew long and full without all this extra. I was happy about the whole natural hair movement but it pissed me off when I couldn't find a good shampoo ANYMORE. I do none of this and I find when I do all this extra stuff my hair gets stressed out. Protective styles I used to do more when I was younger but even with my curly fro and styles my hair still grows. I hate all the oils in my hair. It does nothing. Shampoo and conditioning every week and put some product that hasn't changed and gives me moisture and I've only found 3 so far is all I need. Whew Chile you're my new hair bestie

The “curly hair rules” and “curly girl method/s” are meant to be more about tips and options to aid women in managing their curls. It’s good to experiment with different options and find out how your hair and scalp respond, and adjust your routines to best practice. My experience: hair/scalp care is no different from skin and body care. Usually our hair needs and benefits from different products and treatments over time. There’s usually not one single “miracle” product, ingredients, or practice that “does it all every time” for us. Sometimes I wash. Sometimes I co wash. Sometimes I clarify. Sometimes I need more moisture and styling products. Sometimes I’m product free. Sometimes I comb or brush. Sometimes finger styling is all I need. There’s good advice in curly methodology, but no one better understands your hair needs than yourself. Use what works best and pass on the rest.

Thank you! I was worried about some of the rules because I just... I wash my hair. And I enjoy hot showers. I don't like tons of product. I don't even wear makeup 90% of the time, because I don't like products on me that I don't need to use. Natural shampoos and conditioners are a great idea that I'll be starting because I want healthy hair, but I don't want gels and oils and stuff in my hair. And I shower Every 3-4 days. With warm-hot water. I am willing to stop brushing with a brush and start finger-combing or wide-tooth combing my hair in the shower, using satin pillow case to protect my hair while I sleep, etc. but some of the other things... they're just not gonna happen for me.

My three CG goals (aside from healthy, more defined waves): -Cheap, but great products. Preferably no more than 4-5 of them. -Quick routine with consistent results -No wasted effort on things that do nothing for my hair

Hahaha! Love video! We have similar hair texture and I don't do any of the same rules. I believe it all about what your hair needs. You took words out my mouth "protective hair style". What is that!

Amazing video. One reason I'm not part of the CG community on forums is because they are so often very judgemental. Rules I break with my 3b hair: I brush my hair. I don't section my hair for anything. I don't usually finger detangle even in the shower. I use conditioner with silicones (my hair actually loves silicones for some reason) I use Shea Moisture products (they are really against SM on the forums) I wash my hair every two days sometimes every day. I use mineral oils. I don't use protective styles. I sleep on my hair. I don't scrunch upside down. I don't use cold water. I don't pre-poo or co-wash. I use shampoo. I use a regular ole towel on my hair and shake my hair in it. I refuse to pay more than $12 for a curly hair product. Usually I don't pay more than $8.

FYI: using warm/hot water is ideal for our porosity. After shampooing and conditioning, wet and section hair, applying your leave-in moisturizer simultaneously. Hot water opens the shaft and ensures that the moisture is getting into the shaft of each strand!

I uh: 1. no satin scarf/bonnet/pineapple 2. no protein treatments 3. no hot oil treatments I do: 1.Oil prepoos 2. scalp massages w/oil 3. Diy deep conditioner 4. Cowash once a week 5. Use acv as shampoo 6. Rinse w/warm or cool water. 7. Section off hair 8. Use Denman brush/wide-tooth comb for detangling IIII think I'll take a break from the second list and start doing the first list for a month to see if my limp, weak nonexistent 3c curls come back.😢

I learned so much from the CG method. I'm just trying it out really to see if I get benefit from some things. The correct method to introduce yourself to a new method with SO MANY steps and suggestions, for me it would be to implement some, if not one, each time. If you make all the changes altogether, you don't know what's exactly that's beneficial from the routine you're following! And just for convenience I don't plan on doing some things, if there isn't an extraordinarily big benefit from doing those!

I m not from the Us . Coconut oil hardens in cold temperatures just like high grade extra virgin olive oil . The fats solidify and melt at warm temperature.

Ya girl has blue + purple in her hair so I cowash once every 5-6 days, but this is a "shampoo" laden with oils and gentle surfactants like coco betaine. it's from renpure, it actually does cleanse but does not strip + i try to use it sparingly and ONLY on my scalp in the coldest water i can stand because i don't want my color to wash out

Girl I never follow those rules, I thought I was the only one lol. The only thing I do is use luke warm water to wash my hair but I also like hot showers so that is quite a challenge but I was able to find a compromise with that lol. I also do not section my hair that often unless I'm doing a twist out to make it go by quicker lol. I also do not deep condition as often as I should, or do any kind of treatments to it. Love this video Bianca!

I'm so glad I found your videos! I have very curly hair ( 3b/c), and have never really known what to do with it. Thank you so much!!

So I just caught that you wash your hair!! I loved hearing that, However I wish I had heard that a year ago! I did the CG no sulfates for a year and half...my hair started falling out pretty much right away. I thought it was my thyroid acting up and making me lose my hair, never would of thought it was because of no sulfates in my shampoo...I truly believe it was because I wasn't cleansing my scalp...I'm so sad I missed this! Anyways lesson learned. CG method is not for every curly girl that's for sure! Thanks for your honestly and I hope my thinning stops that's for sure! Love following your videos!

Thank you on your comment about NOT using coconut oil as a styler! Everyone tells me to use it on my biracial curly hair daughter and it actually makes her curls so heavy that the next day I can't style it. Even just using a bit for the oil benefit is a no go for her hair!

Bianca, thanks for your Video! Totally agreeing that not every „rule“ is necessary, like I don’t wash my hair with cold water 😂 but about co-washing, yes it’s basically skipping shampooing but there are also cleansing co-wash conditioners (like the one from AsIAm, which is great as it cleans the scalp without being as harsh as a shampoo and it’s awesome for detangling!) just wanted to add that 😊 anyways thanks for this encouraging video @bianca ❤️❤️ xxx from Germany

I love hot showers but I see a huge difference when I use cold water on my hair. All you have to do is put conditioner, comb out with a wide tooth comb, flip your hair upside down, & then turn on the cold water. It literally takes 10-15 seconds & it’s SO worth it. Seriously. Try it. You’ll be amazed.

Bianca! Thank you for keeping it so REAL! I don't always follow the curly girl routine because I just don't have the time. I do use sulphate and paraben free shampoos, cold rinse and use the LOC method. I do wear protective styles, wrap my hair at night and don't use a towel to dry my hair (only because I never have) But that's it. I don't deep condition, use diy masks, hot oils, protein treatments, trim my hair regularly and have only used ACV once in my life. My curly 3c hair is mid back length with no problems. We're all different and our genes also dictate how our hair pattern/type will turn out. I for one get so fed up with this hype about what we should put in our hair as it puts so much pressure on us and can be really expensive too (sigh) also, it just takes the fun out of styling! 🤷🏾‍♀️

LMAO Bianca and AHA moment!! I've been pre-pooing, scalp massaging with oils and using it on my ends and as of late, the top half of my hair is breakage-prone now and shorter than the bottom half of my hair. I think I'll take a break from oils for about two weeks also stop protective styling and start pineappling, and stop co-washing, hopefully my hair will come back to life.😁

I'm with you on some of these: I don't co-wash, I don't pre-poo and I don't use coconut oil. I do protective styles only when I feel like it. I like how you encourage others not to get so stressed out, because that's EXACTLY what could happen especially when they're initially trying to embrace their natural texture.

Okay so first off, your priority is not using cold water if you don’t have high porosity hair. High porosity hair is when your cuticle is opened ; too opened. So you need to close it a bit and cold water does that. But if you have low porosity, you could do it but your cuticle is already somewhat closed.
