There is a separate section for black hair care products, which does not bother me actually. When I saw your cowash my first thought was "She's using black hair stuff" which I had no problem with. My mom is a hair stylist, we always had the black hair brands and such. Cowash is a term black people are really used to, we have been doing it for years. But I grab products from the "non black" (is it ok to say it that way lol) section all the time. My point is it does not matter your skin type, if it works for you, then awesome! It's refreshing to see other races using what's meant for "black hair" because it's breaking those stereotypes created in society, hair types based on race being one of them. You are gorgeous and I love your natural hair it is beautiful, great video!!!

I don't agree with sectioning it. Us curly girls need a united section and stores need to know that.
@sresto18 жыл бұрын
+holistic79 yeah the other dayvi select a product and some one said but that is for black people and I'm like "AND". I don't care mom family they have a really curly hair I'm Puerto Rican and my hair is with a soft curl. But I believe the should put curly I that section. Because in the other stuff or section they don't said for white people.

Starr Rivers I just recently came across the black hair care products since I went vegan and was looking for cruelty free products and daaamn, I'm never going back, it's like I just discovered a whole new world (my natural hair is dark brown almost black with wavy ends and super puffy with a lot of volume but extremely chemically treated, these new products work miracles)

I want to thank you! I have 2b maybe some days 2c hair. I'm 30 years old and have tried so many products to help with frizz and allow my hair to be natural and down! I have 4 kids so not a lot of time. I've watched a couple of videos and got a couple of the products you've mentioned. First day of trying the cowash with as I am... shea moister masque and Deva curl styling cream and wave maker. Let me say the first day of cowashing I seen a huge difference! Huge! Oh and the turbe twist. Thank you! I'm so happy I came across your channel. You gave me hope. I always, everyday, put my hair up in a bun, and looked the same almost everyday. Thank you again! You would think I had it figured out by now but no. Not many people have truly wavy/ curly hair!

You're a smart girl to realize that the needs of your hair made it worthwhile to venture into "ethnic" products! I'm an older Hispanic lady who had a hard time finding adequate products for my colored wavy hair much too often after I moved to the States a long time ago. I straightened my hair for most of my life, many times with a mild "thio" relaxer, but due to the dryness and damage could never grow my hair as long as I really would've liked when I was young, had I known I could use those products maybe things would've been different for me too. I broke the "barrier" though while in beauty school 16 years ago, a lot of the students were AA so I started checking books out of the library that dealt with all types of hair and one day decided to explore an "ethnic" beauty supply store that I'd passed by many times. It was really a lot of fun and somewhat overwhelming so at first I only bought a thing or two. Then I discovered the CG book a couple of years later at a time when I was already skipping one shampoo a week and only rinsing and conditioning after reading about it in a book written by Oprah's stylist Andre Walker, so it made complete sense to me. But I needed new products and those stores offered a whole new world of possibilities. My first co-wash holy grail was actually a cheap tea tree oil cholesterol treatment (that used for about 3 years or longer until they changed the formula). I'd been plagued by dandruff and it cleared my scalp in no time while helpint to repair my color-damaged hair. As I became more knowledgeable about ingredients I began choosing other products and found a few others that did amazing things for my hair (but also have had some fails but usually on cheap products). I've also bought from them wigs, hairpieces, accessories, lipstick, earrings and more in the past. To this day I still visit the local beauty supplies where I live now whenever I need certain things, I even found in one of them again a much beloved professional protein treatment that I thought had disappeared, and SO cheap I was happy as a clam. They also have semi-permanent hair dyes in "punk" colors and tubs of shea butter at reasonable prices, I melt chunks of it to "doctor up" some of my cheap conditioners and body lotions. Often times their prices are even lower than at other stores, or they have "bonus" offers that other stores don't have so I encourage other wavies and especially curlies to give them a try.

I don't know why I feel that Caucasian hair doesn't have the same issues ethnic hair does. Maybe because all I hear Caucasians complain about is greasy hair when my hair is as dry as the dessert. I use a hair tube (hair buff or neck gaiter) with a silk pillowcase, so that it doesn't slip off my head (using one with a cotton pillow often causes friction). So I use a microfibre or bamboo hair tube to keep my hair up without it falling out (a pineapple or scrunchie either comes loose or hurts my head during the night).

I do think it's helpful to separate because people with African American hair need different products than someone with wavy/curly hair. with that being given said I don't think it's wrong to try out other hair products even if they aren't marketed at you
@latinainwpb8 жыл бұрын
I don't have a problem with the separation because it's true that tightly curled hair has different needs that regular curly or wavy hair. However, it really depends on every person's particular needs. Take me for example. My hair is fine, very similar to India's in wave/curl pattern and even in color because I bleached it 2 years ago (and now just use a high lift professional product on the new growth) so its porosity allows me to use use some "ethnic" products successfully. In fact, I've bought a couple that I expected to be "greasy" so I used them sparingly only to find out that I'd used way too little. I just stay away from any that contain mineral oil or petrolatum (except when I've wanted to fade my hair color a bit) because that's heavy stuff and regular use can lead to dryness.

Curly/wavy hair videos need some separation/clarification as well. I’ve watched so many tutorials that say “for curly/wavy hair.” But a lot of products for curls are too greasy for wavy hair, which is typically finer. 9 times outta 10, when I use products for curls I have to rewash my hair in 24 hours

Natily Productions also try putting gel or something when it's still soaking wet/has been drying for about 5 minutes and then scrunch with a t shirt to remove the moisture and extra product and don't touch your hair after that until it's dry. you can also try plopping it if it's really wavy.

Hi! Thank you so, so much for this AMAZING tutorial! First of all, I'd like to say that you have gorgeous waves/curls! My hair type is really similar to yours, but for some reason whenever I wash it and let it air dry, no matter what I do, it always gets frizzy and it's really annoying :/ I do have to wash my hair with shampoo that has few sulfate a because my scalp is very oily. However, I since it has sulfates, I only use it to wash my scalp. I wash the rest of my hair with a curly/wavy hair mask for dry, frizzy hair. Then, I kind of scrunch my hair with a cotton T-shirt to remove the excess of water and then I proceed to applying first an argan oil curling cream and then I apply the Paul Mitchell styling cream. I section my hair into four parts to apply that one and then I let it air dry. I always get frizz, though! And I don't know why! I mean, I only use little shampoo on my scalp and I use a ton of that mask :// Do you think putting my hair up in that wrap you made with a cotton T-shirt right after the shower will tame frizz? Thank you lots and God Bless youuu!

I've never really been bothered by the separate hair care sections I personally feel like it makes things easier. Black hair is different than white,Indian, Asian etc types of hair. If curly hair is different than straight hair. Imagine how unique black hair is compared to that. Our hair needs more oils and butters, less washing, way more detangling and protective styling, gentleness, and the texture is different. It's always helped me find products that would work great for my hair texture. I kinda think thats a small reason why sections are separate (we all know the other reason )And just because they're labeled doesn't mean we can't walk into any section we choose ya know. Do what's good for your hair.
@Orlanzepol1237 жыл бұрын
Like your comment. It does make it easier. And our hair is generally different yet lots of other hair types can use lots of the very products we (ethnic) use and get great results. I think they shy away from our products because they think they are too greasy or because they don't want to think that they can use the same prods we use on our "kinky" hair for their beautiful and better hair. Obviously not all think like that. There's a YT video of a White guy relaxing his hair with a relaxer for kinky Afro type hair. LOL He does every several months to touch up his roots.

I just figured out a new way to look up videos on KZbin because I felt like I've seen everything under the sun with naturally curly hair. I'm super excited to have found your channel! I've actually been debating on finally posting videos, but I'm shy lol. About the "ethnic" hair aisle, I agree it's pretty silly honestly. I guess it's nice because they have everything I usually use there in once place. That's good that you've got something to clarify and it's great that you've figured out the importance of removing build up. A lot of people forget about that. Have you considered other aspects of your hair, like your hair properties etc.? That might help you figure out splurging in the future etc. or what to buy like you were saying. :)

I'm British ("European" white, splash of Irish) with 2A hair. I found that some of the products, especially "hair mayonnaise" or that ORS olive oil cream, typically found in African haircare aisles recovered my hair from everyday damage caused by sulfates and cheapish shampoos. Nothing else seemed to work, and my hair was frazzled from braiding and brushing it wet for years. Saying that, if I use it too much of conditioner products they build up and weigh my hair down. Still not sure why I never find anything quite as effective in the regular haircare aisle, but I suppose everyone's hair is different. :}

I shampoo once a week, squeeze my hair with my hands first thing after a shower, and go in immediately with leave in conditioner. I use a wide tooth comb ONLY when my hair has been saturated with conditioner. I get a million comments a day along the lines of, "omg you look like Merida from Brave!" Honestly curly hair is so easy to take care of it you just let it be. So easy to be natural.

Hi! I looove your hair, mine's texture is quiet similar but i have a few sraighter and frizzier strands :( unfortunately I don't want to spend my moms money to expensive sulfate and silicon free products, but I want to use them when I will have my own money! I have already tried them but not for a longer period of time... I also use some oils next to conditioner to make it more moisturized, so do you think if I would not brush my hair while washing it (with the conditioner) it would get rid off some frizziness? I would be reaally happy if u answered, but I understand if you won't! A new subbie here! ☺️

it's in the African-American section for the same reason you said curl girls. I have curly hair and am looking for advice on how to keep it looking and feeling nice. I was going to dismiss the comment about girls and women until you mentioned your confusion on race relations. You're right; hair is just hardened protein - doesn't matter the race. But gender does? I have curled strands of protein growing out of my head too Do I need a curl care product for men?

+Mike Paquette Hey Mike! Thank you so much for checking out my video. The method i used which was created my lorraine is simply called "curly girl method". However, i definitely gear my videos towards women as well, since 94% of my viewership is woman. But i will absolutely try in the future to mention men and speak to you as well. Great reminder, thanks for your feedback mike! (: rock yours curls

Love your channel! :) You have beautiful hair. I totally agree with you about the products and how they're separated. I don't understand why, my hair loves those products and my curls soak up the moisture! I am new to the shea moisture, I'd love to try the co-wash you use as well. I've started to take more care with what I put in my hair. I feel like I spend SO much time in the hair products aisle lol.

Hi. I have almost the same hair with you, my only problem here is it's too frizzy especially if I let it air dried. I am planning to go to the salon and have hot oil treatment, any thoughts about hot oil treatment? Would that do any harm to my hair, or it would help my hair to look more beautiful as yours. Thanks! :)

Your hair is gorgeous and so healthy looking!! I have really similar curly/wavy hair like you but I have a lot of frizzies towards the ends..I want to start the CG method to get rid of it and was wondering about how long it takes for it to lose the frizz and become like yours?
@indiabatson269 жыл бұрын
+Noreen Hey Noreen! I have watched Loraine Massey and loved her book for a while now, she always says, " frizz is a curl waiting to happen". so i think you can see results VERY quickly as soon as you moisturize properly! The longer you use the CG methods the better the results, but after a couple uses you should see a change. best of luck girl

Love your hair! A question: How often do you trim/cut your hair? 🐒
@jackeline_dl9 жыл бұрын
Do you wash your hair with cold or warm water? How often do you wash it? How much of the Shea Moisture do you spray in your hair and how much oil do you put in your hair? Sorry I just had a few questions 😁 and btw you are very pretty!!
@indiabatson269 жыл бұрын
+Jackeline De Leon hey girl no problem !! I am happy to help. i use warm water to wash, condition, and detangle my hair when i go to condition my hair i use cool/cold water i try my hardest not to use too hot of water as it strips your hair of moisture, which causes frizz! The absolute worst for curly hair.& Using cold water at the ends can help close the hair cuticle and lock in the moisture thus promoting shine! I plan on doing a subsequent video over this topic soon!! I wash my hair roughly every 2-3 days. However, if i work out a lot one week it might be more frequent! it really depends. I try to always have at least one day in between washings at the least. The shea moisture leave in conditioner stuff i use roughly 2-3 sprays of it on each side of my head. focus it on the ends to mid shaft.NEVER near your roots or you will be a grease ball! haha Hope this helped

New sub here :) my hair is similar to yours, only now I have about 25 yrs on ya and my hair is mostly gray now, under all of the color & bleach lol... I'm sick of spending hours of drying & straightening in turn damaging the hell out of it. so I'm gonna try out your advise here & see how it goes! The one thing I've noticed in all your videos is how your demeanor changes from no makeup to makeup!😂😂 I'm totally not knocking it.. it's cute lol reminds me A LOT of myself at your age. 👍👍

I completely agree with you. I have blonde hair like you, and I am white. most of my hair products are found in the african aisle since i have such wavy hair. Could you possibly do a video on frizz? I always wake up with frizzy hair and when i brush it my waves go away.

Love that Coconut CoWash! *not so in love with that shea butter companies products...it's never impressed me I don't own a twisty-turban but hear microfiber towels are best. My Deva Curl towel is very small, does not cover it at all. Thanks for all your videos and referrals. I live in FL so humidity can either be good, or bad. My hair always ends up in a bun though. I also use a wet brush but it always removes hair so I am looking for a GREAT detangler since if I don't comb/brush I will have giant mats/giant dreads. I use long sleeve tee to tie up wet hair and it works nicely. Going to check out some of those products & let you know. ❤

Hi, firstly I wanna say thank you for sharing your tipps and tricks of how to handle curls. So I have a question... My curls are quite strong and intense. I have no chance of brushing them before my shower. My routine is wash them, but lot's of conditioner in there and than brush them. For me it just works that way. So in one of your videos you said not to brush them if they are wet. So from your experience with curls, what can I do?? Thanks for your help! Greetings from Austria ;)

Hey India! I love this video, and i cut my hair recently, well a few months ago, and i don't like it. The thing is I want to grow it out again, but I heard that washing your hair every other day can damage it and i get build- up easily. i work out two to three days a week sometimes a few days in a row and my hair gets sweaty and gross. i don't know how to grow it long and healthy and still run and keep in shape. so yeah... i need help lol ILY!
@tina-sheamyrie45718 жыл бұрын
The Yes To Carrots Nourishing Conditioner is a good non-greasy product you can use generously as a leave-in to your wet hair. Then plop with the turby twist for a few minutes and add a CG-approved mousse for hold without the crunch. Air-dry or diffuse after.

I made the unfortunate decision of cutting my hair in layers and the hair dresser made a mistake. She basically cut a large layer of my hair really short compared to the thinner long part which is very awkward looking, especially since I generally have very fine and thin hair. Not to mention, for most of my life I didn't really know I had like curly hair because I always dried my hair in a low pony tail so the top was flat and weird straight while the bottom was wavy but with a very weird pattern. I tried to let my hair air dry without the ponytail but it kinda just fluffed up and only the back of my hair resembled "wavy/curly" hair. (I also sometimes use heat on the front sections of my hair so it doesn't look like I have the worst hair on the planet) After that long story, I was just wondering what haircut you had in the video and what the best solution would be for my ruined hair.
@Ariel68peanut8 жыл бұрын
I feel your pain! Few years ago I had to grow out a similar haircut :( The short layer was around my neck and the longest layer was at my waist. I did a lot of half updos when wearing my hair down and experimented with other hairstyles. For that time I also only trimmed the longer layer. After 1.5 year and 2 corrective haircuts my hair returned to normal. Her haircut looks to be long face-framing layers and the longest layer appears to be the same length. You want to stay away from the V cut and ask your hair to look like a wide U in the back. Good thing about hair is that it will grow back. Hang in there,take care of it and have fun with different hairdos. You may also want to check out the inversion method to help grow it out faster :)

Love the video! I don't think these products should be limited to being just in the "ethnic aisle" as well because you're right people of all different races can have different types of hair. I'm black and I do not consider these "black people products" as many have mentioned below lol I use several different brands like pantene, garnier, and etc I don't think it's right to label certain products for black/white people. Use whatever you want it's your money your hair who cares what society thinks. I think it should just be in a section where it says natural products or for natural hair. That way anyone who wears their hair in it's natural state won't feel limited to just certain products because the sign says for ethnic or African american hair.

There are curly & straight products in the "regular" hair section, but they're also primarily chemically based which are often too harsh for dry/course/curly hair. So there has been a separate section for richer, more natural products to suit the needs of most "ethnic" hair. However, I'm Caucasian & have curly/frizzy hair, & I have used "ethnic" products for decades for those reasons. Now that there is more demand for natural products, & people have discovered there are alternatives to traditional cleansing & conditioning methods, the "ethnic"/natural sections are often grouped together. Personally I think it's just a matter of convenience so people don't have to hunt to find more natural products.

My hair is exactly like yours but if I don't comb it mine will start to knot up like dreds. I am definitely going to try your routine. I also use the hair wraps! Also, I want my hair trimmed or shaped a little better but I don't trust anyone to do it. The last person gave me almost two different flat levels of layers. My hair is bow down to my butt frizz is becoming morr of an issues and I just refuse to get it done afraid of someone messing it up. Any advice on how to stear a hair dresser to cutting? Tips to tell them?

What product do you recommend to hold curl throughout the day? And how often do you wash your hair? I wash mine every other day and it will look greasy in the roots the day I have to wash it.
@Jsantii7 жыл бұрын
Hey if you or anyone can answer it would be really great! So I have curly hair as well and I've done the co-wash, but I tend to get dandruff whenever it's time to wash my hair which is what makes me HAVE to wash it because obviously , my hair needs oil. But the dandruff makes me have to really wash it. Just wondering, does co-washing fully get rid of dandruff? Or should I keep using my sulfate free shampoos in order to get rid of dandruff?
