I have very fine, high porosity hair. My current must have is Avocado oil. I wash my hair with Aussie moist 3 min deep conditioner and then after rinsing, I must apply Avocado oil then either Shea moisture strengthening leave-in and/or wetline or flax seed gel. I'm not getting breakage so I'm retaining length. It's 9 months since it started growing after chemo and I'm at 4.5 inches, so well done me, lol.

I have high porosity and I avoid, avoid, avoid glycerin and coconut oil. I wash consistently, hot oil prior to washing and use my on butters which are shea based. Hair is bra strap length and healthy. I stopped using a lot of off the shelf products and went back to basics. Grease, water and stretching. (Not allowing hair to simply air dry with out twisting , braiding or banding.)
@tripudium172 жыл бұрын
How often a week do you wash your hair? I use a whipped shea mix for my skin but haven't tried it on my hair yet. I have been neglecting my hair lately your comment was a reminder that it doesn't need to be complicated to get results!
@sjones46682 жыл бұрын
@@tripudium17 I wash weekly without fail. I have very fine hair, (which is usually hard to maintain length), not much of a pattern on top and tighter pattern on sides. I wash, deep condition, rinse and use hair oil/ grease and plait, divided into four plaits. Allow my hair get 80-90% dry then add shea based butter and re-plait, but moving the plait to a different place, higher or lower, to ensure the hair is fully stretched until complete dry. I add the butter 3 more times during the week and mist hair if necessary at night. It's a simple routine and makes wash day easy and relatively quick. I trim as needed. Sometimes that's once a month and some times once a quarter.

what shea butter do you use? my hair the same, high porosity, fine hair. I tried as I am doublecream butter. its softens by hair for a few seconds, but stiffens my hair after making it realing impossible to detangle. I'm not sure how to seal my hair. At the moment im using water, leave in and grease but my hair still drys up by the next day.
@clairedaniels187711 ай бұрын
@toniannrobertson8690 My fine, high porosity hair doesn't like butters. It prefers oils. I find low porosity naturals can handle butters better. You can try doing a hot oil treatment before washing. Then deep condition with heat cap or steam. Then a good rinse out to seal the outer part of the hair.

One grail product is As I Am pomegranate shampoo (red bottle). It’s the most moisturizing shampoo I have ever used, the lather is incredible with just a small amount used. And it smells incredible. If I may chose one more it would be Elasta QP Hair Glaze - it’s a must for us naturalistas! I have used it for maybe 15 years now. It’s super soft, does NOT leave your hair sticky, nor tacky, nor flaky ….and believe it or not but you can actually use it from root, to tip, to hairline and it is so soft going on and staying in. I have no idea what the Elasta QP Glaze is made of because it’s clear, but for this girl with big 4C super thick hair it gives me a healthy shine too.

For me the only ‘product’ that has truly and consistently made a big impact on my hair is Shea Butter. No matter what other products I use alongside it, it always leave my hair feeling soft and seals in moisture for days. However, a product I recently bought that I have been loving is the Garnier Whole Blends Coconut Water and Aloe Vera Conditioner. It has GREAT slip and leaves my hair feeling soft after I rinse it out and let it air dry before doing the LB (leave-in, Shea butter) method. For previous conditioners, my hair would feel mad dry if I let it air dry without applying other products.

I have fine, thinning, graying 4b hair. I think it is high porosity because it air dries so rapidly. I also live in a dry desert region. Instead of carcinogenic hair dyes containing PPD and resorcinol, I use Hairprint hair color, which contains no toxic ingredients. It uses plant sourced Eumelanin to restore one's natural original color to the hair. However, quats, behentrimonium methosulfate, dimethicone, etc. and other ingredients which coat the hair and are in nearly every product for black hair, interfere with Hairprint. Do you have any suggestions for products that don't coat the hair and create buildup, or that will thoroughly clarify the hair and remove buildup of quats, etc? I'm a chemist, too, and It is so hard to find products for black hair without potentially toxic components!

I use castor oil and that good ol' orange Dax Marcel Curling Wax. The Dax seriously helps my hair retain it's softness. I live in Maryland and it gets very humid so my styles don't last. My hair poofs up then just dries out. The heavy oil and grease helps prevent this and it does not actually gunk my hair and scalp up like you would think because a little goes a long way. I was finally able to wear a twist out after I started using hair grease again.

Hi Tonya, I bought a home computer when I was in quarantine and discovered one of your previous videos but was actually surfing reading science stuff and didn't save the link and forgot everything...can't tell you how sad I was. I will never make that mistake again now that I've found you again. WHAT A GREAT CHANNEL!! My aunt, who was a hairdresser (and self-made millionaire) would have just loved you. You know what you're talking about and when I surf around and listen to black ppl talk about hair I'm saddened by the lack of knowledge ppl are spreading to each other. I pressed "like" for your video and I'll share it with others - - My #1 holy grail product is called OJON. They had a hair care line and all the products were derived from a nut in the rain forest. The native ppl *especially women* used it in their hair for generations and they have long thick shiny healthy hair but they live in a remote area that's hard to get to but the locals knew and said "oh yeah those ppl just keep going down the river and you'll find them" They are known as "The People of Beautiful Hair". The treatment was AMAZING..it looked and felt like brown margarine...you'd emulsify it in your hands, rub it in your hair and instantly you would see and feel the difference, it would protect, strengthen, repair and it wasn't bullsh!t. It penetrated all the way to the medulla! There was nothing like it on this earth, that nut only grows in the rain forest. I would use the treatment the night before my relaxer and it would protect my hair so well. I never had any damage and my aunt and every hairdresser who ever looked through my hair wanted to know.What's that smell?..What are you using? Keep using it girl. A well known large cosmetics company bought them and obliterated them (I won't name names but you can research it if you want - if there was a private way to tell you, I would tell you more) Just a side note: in 2020 when I bought my computer I was curious if anyone still had some and wanted to sell it online..there were ppl selling it for hundreds of dollars because those of us who know how rare and unparalled it is will buy it, however I refuse to show someone it's okay to buy it at those crazy prices. I cherish what I have left and gave away some to 1 friend with terribly dry damaged hair from bleaching and heavy styling. She jumps me and hugs me every time I see her..it's embarrassing...I avoid her now.

Thank you so much, this is great. I have been looking forward to a video from you about high porosity hair. I am so glad to see some of the recommended products are already in my stash. Just bought my first jar of Melanin moisturizer and I have the Carol's Daughter shampoo. So happy to learn that some silicone based products are beneficial for high porosity hair and that grease is good! In light of all this talk about no butters/oils detox. I love using butter and oil based products for my hair. My current favorites are Alikay Honey & Sage DC, Uniqurl (Moisturizing Leave-in Spray, Aloemint DC), Miche (Indulge DC and Sculpting Gel), and Bask & Bloom (Brahmi Root Hair Masque, More Moisturizer, Herbal Scalp Oil, & the Watermelon Seed Edge Pomade). I have been trying out new products in my stash and have new favorites from Curlsmith (Oil-In-Cream, Intense Treatment Serum, Double Cream Deep Quencher, & In-Shower Style Fixer). I sampled Curl Charisma Leave-in by Briogeo and loved it! Will be trying more Briogeo products and also TGIN and the Mane Choice.

Okay, yeah had to pause this video once or twice cuz of the Aloe, yikes. My high porosity hair usually HATES Aloe. Makes my hair dry & brittle to the touch. Feels fried. I can't figure out why, saw on a forum I'm not alone but no explanation as to why some of us can't take the one ingredient everyone raves about? Tried 3 times, never again. Holy grails for my (fine) natural (almost waist length) high porosity hair are: Aphogee Deep Moisture Shampoo - nothing comes close in slip, softness, & clean. Salerm Hi Repair Mask - this is protein (used 1-2x/month) but Salerm have a Wheat Germ one for moisture and ceramide hair help, I am about to try. Salerm 21 leave-in Conditioner - I use the Jasmine & Amber cuz it smells better to me. This keeps breakage away very well while adding shine and smoothness. Giovanni Direct Leave-in - this stuff has great slip when hair is wet Henna - Once a month Glycerine & Slippery elm - I've replaced Aloe with these for added softness & super slip to conditioners Coconut, Jojoba, Avocado, Argan Oil - On unstretched natural hair Safflower, Grapeseed, Abyssinian oil - On stretched (roller set dried) hair. Hair is never oily and makes my hair strong + super shiny. Peppermint, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, & Sometimes a little Castor - diluted in Safflower/Grapeseed oil + mixed with a tsp of sublimed sulphur for my scalp when I want a little growth booster. Honorable mention: Also love As I Am leave-in but the bottle is too small (and expensive) for how much I need for my hair. Aphogee Keratin & Green tea is amazing but same issue. Also works better after my hair has been dry for a minute.

My absolute holy grail for twist outs, braid outs and wash and goes is crème of nature pure honey moisturize whip twisting cream. I layer it with mouse, gel or oil depending on the style. I keep trying other moisturizers and I always come back to this. I’m high porosity and although honey is a humectant, my hair loves it.

Super helpful!!! I’m high porosity due to being a bleached blonde, but my hair is healthy. Some of these suggestions will probably help with maintaining my wash & go’s a little longer tho - keeping an eye out for sneaky humectants is probably going to make the biggest difference. I suspected that glycerin here in these humid summer days wasn’t helping at all. Thanks!

Thank you so much! Can someone with high po, fine hair, use grease. You mentioned we should be careful with humectants, what about film forming humectants.

I have a fine and silkier hair texture and I've used grease in the past however what I do is just take some, a little bit because I don't have high density hair either and rub it in my hands and evenly run it through my hair. I'm usually wearing my hair in braids or twists so this method works well for me.

There is another KZbinr afope atoyebi, she has high porosity hair and recommends film forming humectants in most of her videos because of how moisturising they are but she also mentions that having a product with film forming humectants and butters/oils in the formulation is key

I am "old school" who has worn an afro and used the same paraben filled products for over 30 years. I did the "hair in a glass of water" test to determine my porosity and the hair drowned - high porosity here! Newly informed, I decided to put my Luster's products on hold and began using the Mane Choice Tropical Moringa line and Melanin Hair Oil. Four weeks later I noticed my hair thinning at the crown and around my hairline (gel was never used). It was also difficult to keep moisturized. The information you shared was very helpful, Thank you. I certainly intend to look into some of your suggestions. I have tried Carol's Daughter shampoo but found it squeakly stripping to my hair. However, I am ecstatic this invaluable community is here and content creators like yourself give of your time to inform.

Thank you for this list. I was low porosity all my life until my hair turned gray, truly all silver dark gray. Products with color don’t work for the silver haired ladies as it tends to yellow up our beautiful silver coils. Any recommendations on hair greases with no color would be great too. Oh yes, one more thing- can you explain how we can determine if our hair needs protein or needs less protein and more moisture. I've been looking at my hair products, and pretty much EVERYTHING (except my shampoo) has protein in it! And then I've been prepooing with coconut oil- which is kinda like a protein for your hair right? I can't seem to find a conditioner/ deep / leave in conditioner WITHOUT protein... I suspect I'm getting too much because I'm seeing signs that my ends are snapping off... either that, or just my short hairline hairs are shedding... I'm not even sure what to look out for. Can you do a video on that PLEASE?
