My high porosity hair air dries within 30 minutes. I was shocked when you said 2-5 HOURS. What works for me is Liquid and oil. Liquid, Leave in, Oil. Or Liquid, Oil Leave-in. My leave in is made using lighter oils, distilled water essential rose oil and essential peppermint oil blends and aloe but I seal with pomade. My hair is super soft afterwards which is saying something because I have micro locs. I don’t know if this is typical of high porosity hair but my scalp is sensitive. No cream on the hair because that makes its way onto my scalp and I wind up washing everything out that I just put in or scooping it up and onto my hair and taking an antihistamine!

As a teen with high porosity 4b/c hair, I have been using Liquid (water), Cream (creme of nature leave in) and grease (blue magic castor oil) or just a very thick oil like castor oil on my hair for years now, and it's the only way my hair stays moisturized all week even after stretching it. Monthly protein treatments have been a must for me as well. I make sure to detangle beforehand with a conditioner first, rinse it out & wash my hair in twists, then apply a protein treatment (the originals hair Mayonaise) so I can just comb the protein treatment into each section quickly and not leave it for too long. Not doing this in the past, and just detangling with the protein treatment has led me to leave it on for way too long in some sections since I have very dense hair. Detangling with conditioner-> braid/twist hair -> washing my hair -> applying protein treatment in each section & being able to comb it through quickly has had my hair feeling unreal and I have retained a lot of length especially over the last few months

What works for my high porosity hair is a castor oil rinse after deep conditioning. My hair was so dry after I went natural I almost went back to relaxers. I saw this recommendation on You Tube and it saved my natural hair journey. I've been doing it for almost a decade and love it!

I alternate between LCO and LCB, but my fine low-density hair cannot handle heavy oils and grease, so I stick to butters. The game-changer for me is keeping my hair in twists 99% of the time to retain moisture for longer. I also do protein treatments monthly, and moisturize with aloe vera juice + grapeseed/ avocado oil between wash days.

I learned that protein treatments are very helpful for me as a high porosity girl. This summer I came across a leave in or rinse out protein conditioning treatment. All summer, I used it pretty much as a leave in every few days for my wash n go. It was so good to me because it gave me a curl style that I enjoy without the crunch/dryness of a gel and the added benefit of building up my hair. I used it because I learned through your channel that maybe I was drying my hair out using clarifying shampoos. You suggested sulfate free shampooing instead so I switched to that and I also wanted something to counteract the damage I was doing with clarifying shampoo. After using the protein treatment consistently over four months I notice now that my hair is no longer dull, light reflects off my hair (I say this because I literally forgot what shiny hair is supposed to be) and the feeling of my hair is less dry and brittle (it has substance). Now since it is fall I’m more so focused on moisturizing with creams and oils and using the protein treatment just as a rinse out conditioner instead (I just don’t want to have wet hair since the weather is unpredictably cold some times). But so far this is what helps me.

@CurlyChemistry You are a blessing to the natural hair community. This video has touched on exactly what I needed to hear to finally gain length retention. It has been a consistent regimen of the LCG method that is FINALLY allowing my hair to grow since my hair journey from 2015 when I transitioned from relaxers. Since September I literally had to stop using any oils or butters because they did NOTHING for my 4b high porosity hair. Even when I would use a creamy leave in and then avocado and olive oils my hair would still remain dry. I had to literally go back to good old hair grease after my leave in and had to stop using gels (unless I'm doing a slick back ponytail), and now in the last few months I am finally getting hang time to where my hair shakes when I move my head. I also realized my hair tangles too much from wash and gos and the heat stretching my wash and gos was also damaging my hair even more. I now just do the LCG method and do flat twists and nothing else and can even go out in humidity and keep my hairstyle. GREASE was the COMPLETE GAME CHANGER. You give great natural hair advice. I also saw your video about keeping hair moisturized in the winter and it has been working great for me in this cold weather.

I am in the middle of having high porosity hair and normal porosity. I never know which one I should choose. When I look at my hair strand under a microscope, the outer layer looks smooth. When I do the hair strand in the glass of water, it floats midway in the glass of water. My hair absorbs water quick and drys quickly on the top of my head, and the bottom hair dries normally. It's crazy to me. I can moisturize my hair, and it will last 5 to 7 days without needing to reapply more moisture to it.

I am high porosity and I am curious about your opinion on pure Aloe Vera as a Leave -In? I will grate the aloe leaf with a cheese grater (the fine side) then strain it to get the pulp out. Once it dries which is only a few hours I follow up with my shea butter mix (shea, Dax grease which is an all natural hair grease and my oil mix) this keep my hair moisturized for about 3-5 days. If I do need to moisturize I have a fenugreek and rose water spray I use. But I am about to try banana peels soaked in water next

I relax twice a year, do a protein before and do an Olaplex treatment after for two washes and a protein treatment immediately after. My hair is very high porosity Dries super fast Always has No chemicals, color, or heat use When I use oil or grease as the last layer, my hair feels very hard. I HAVE to do cream last It's the only way my hair feels even slightly soft. I have to repeat this the day after wash day, then every other day until next wash day(the following week) I know we are all different I have tried the other ways for years When I finally applied cream as the last step, I was shocked at the difference in my hair I can't believe it took me so long to figure this out I just thought, since everyone else says, apply oil or grease, last, then it must be the only way I could not understand why my hair was always so hard, no matter what moisturizing treatments I did My monthly protein is always followed by moisture, but it was still hard 🤦🏾
