I can't use coconut oil. It dries my hair out. My sister told me that the grease I had used my WHOLE life and grew shoulder length thick hair from was bad and I needed to use coconut oil. Long story short, my hair broke off, I had to cut it and as I was now married with 4 kids I didn't feel like putting in the work to grow it out again for 4 yrs. But I started growing it out again last August and have retained 4 inches with just twist, oh and yes, I use GREASE!

I’m late to the party, but I’ve learned that the needs of my hair continuously evolve as the months and years pass. My regimen was one way during my transition to natural and the DAY I cut my relaxed ends off, I had to relearn how to handle my hair. Sometimes when I try a product and it doesn’t work, I’ll keep it around for a while and my hair will love and need it later. I’ve had to make continuing adjustments to my routine from when my hair was shoulder length, to now that it’s almost waist length. That’s why it’s a “journey”. You have to remain flexible and vigilant. When your hair tells you that it needs something different, listen.

I realized I can't thoroughly wash my type 4 hair without sectioning it. It's just impossible to get ALL of my hair and every part of my scalp clean without sectioning it (and of course, detangling every section). Sectioning my hair into 4 parts every wash day has been a HUGE game-changer for me.

Just really thinking about the detangling. Sometimes I feel like it is a necessary evil, because as you pointed out we have to get rid of the shed hair, but at the same time detangling can break hair off of it is done improperly, and sometimes even when you are super gentle it can still break.

I used to spray water on my hair and seal in the moisture with olive oil every 2 to 3 days. My hair dried out in a day. I have learned that I have to oil my scalp and ends every 2 to 3 days and use Olive Oil Moisturizing Lotion on my hair. My hair loves this product. This routine retains the moisture of my hair and I have less shedding and breakage. For my scalp I make my own herb oils using moringa, rosemary, amla, fenugreek, brahm and aloe vera. The best detangler for me is the aloe vera leaf. I deep condition my hair once a month with Dove deep conditioning cream adding jamaican caster oil, my own herb oils, glycerin, honey, vitamin E and peppermint essential oil. I have also learned that I lose less hair if I finger tangle my hair and blow dry my roots after each wash day.

I've learned that protective styling with extensions is not for me! I would get my hair cornrowed and wear wigs 25/7 and have dry hair for almost two months at a time - but no more! I did the big chop on my natural hair last July (my hair was about 1 cm long) and one year later, even after neglecting my hair like crazy, my hair is now 5 inches long, and that makes me wonder about my hair's true potential - all I have to do is take care of it and I'm sure I'll see even more growth within a year's time. I've started a regimen of washing my hair weekly and using an aloe vera gel+peppermint oil spritz, Camille Rose leave-in conditioner, and sealing with Kuza's Indian Hemp Grease. I'm on a journey to growing my natural hair and I can't wait to see what God has in store for me!

@8:09 To answer your question, with my hair, I have learned: • Combs break my hair strands (especially when soaking wet) so finger-detangling 100% of the time is best • Putting oil on my scalp makes my scalp itchy and causes acne bumps to develop, so I can't do that. Instead, I spray my scalp with diluted tea tree oil and peppermint essential oil or even aloe vera juice after shampooing to keep my scalp under control • The foam and suds from shampoo make finger-detangling my hair super easy and also makes it so I don't have to section my hair anymore on wash day because of how the foam sort of acts like a glue and keeps my clumped, detangled curls together. This allows me to wash my hair in 20-25 minutes instead of it taking the usual 45-60 minutes when I would try to bother with sectioning beforehand. I'm still learning more about my hair, but these 3 things have been amazing learning lessons I've picked up on for my own hair. Awesome video 🙂.

It is redundant for me to keep remoisturising my hair after that because it starts to feel like it’s parched. And what my hair needs is real hydration(water) so wash day HASSSS to be every week and if I’m busy I can only push it to a week and a half after that I risk damage to my ends. My hair doesn't like coconut oil. It dries it out. Moisturizing every two days helps my hair. Jumping on every bandwagon is not good for me. I learn to be consistent and just stick with what works. Pre-pooing with fresh aloe vera, fenugreek, organic kelp and other oils mixed together has helped my hair. My hair likes when I use my fingers or a comb. I use the Aussie Miracle moist Avacado Australian jojoba oil conditioner and my hair loves it. Thank you for sharing. Love and Light.❤️❤️🙏🙏☮️☮️

I agree. I used Curly proverbs henna & clay mask that she teaches about and my hair strands became split from the root. I was horrified. I have very coily, fine high porosity hair. I thought I may have done it wrong and tried it again a year later & the same thing happened 😪😥😪. So now I listen to my hair and threw everything henna & clay in the trash. My hair loves creams & light oils. I also leave conditioner in my hair ( the one you suppose to rinse out ) I am going to cut my hair for the winter and start again from scratch. It's very important to follow what your hair reacts to. I do use the teas Curly proverbs teach about & my hair loves it. It's always a watch & see when it comes to new regimens.

Thanks for the video. With my hair I have noticed a few times I cannot do wash & gos. My hair does not respond to it well. Hairstyles that call for me hair to not be combed through end up causing me to lose more hair and experience a lot of breakage. Although I am natural, my hair experiences very good growth when I apply heat once a week (which is my hair wash day)...when I blowdry on low heat and use my flatiron then I style it in a low ponytail and hold up the ends. My hair grows the fastest that way or when I use mousse on blowdried hair with my permrods and do a curly style. But natural styles like twist outs, braid outs, wash & gos are damaging to my hair. I cannot use a wide tooth comb to detangle in the shower I use a wet brush. Less hair comes out and never snag. Blessings~

I can’t go without greasing my scalp or putting oil on my hair and scalp. My scalp eats up oil fast. I can’t do Braids, crochet, breaks my hair out. I have fine, soft, hair. I usually wash once a week. Now I just do every two weeks. I may wash one week and the second would be conditioned week. Can’t wear high bun or pony tails, easy break off. Can’t do molded (gel, sprtz) hairstyles under the dryer. Major breakage 😔 I can’t use eco gel for my edges a lot, breaks off. If I use soft edge control, there is no control. Lol I’m all natural going on 10 years. Years before I had perms but it started not to take anymore. Once I went natural, I didn’t know I had inherited curly hair. So my journey has been good and bad. Still trying to figure it out. I’m now looking at products without alcohol.

@@sharondadottery6551 where I live in the there are vendors on the streets selling little packets of fenugreek powder, but you can get it at health food stores as well as the seeds are sold at the supermarket. I usually blend the powder with aloe vera and peppermint and use it as a pre poo. I also add some to my homemade black soap shampoo. I use to mix it with water I my spray bottle but the powder clogs the nozzle of the bottle. Present using these regiments my hair is now waist length.

Soak 2 to 3 tablespoons in hot water, leave for a day, or drink after a few hours. Blend the swollen left over seeds in with your smoothy, don't throw them away. Fenugreek has many health benefits besides applying topically on your scalp as hair mask. Also good to help get clear skin when used regularly ,as in daily. It has a bit of a nutty flavour, but as with all natural products; patience is a virtue🍀

I can't do weekly protective styles. My hair HATES manipulation. It grows best when out and un-styled. If I braid my hair, it has to stay that way for no less than two weeks. Don't worry I wash my hair biweekly with my braids and redo them in sections. My hair also hates tension, so knotless box braids are my life.

Great video, love your content! If I put my hair in twists then I can typically get away without a wash day for 2 weeks, but if I just have my curls out, my hair needs a wash weekly. I am so glad that I have finally found products that my hair really loves. I was so tired of wasting money on basically failed experimentation with other products.

I trim or dust my ends〰️〰️ when needed. ✂️✂️Low manipulation styles and scalp massages. I prefer satin pillowcase to scarf. I only use tangle teezer shampoo brush and boar brush for edges. I don't section my hair to wash. My strands can't stand anything gel even aloe vera. I have coarse, high density, low porosity hair.

It took years for me to notice, but I realize I don’t regularly deep condition, do hot oil treatments (never have) or use leave in conditioner or creams. I started reevaluating things I’ve done and not done over the years, and it made me wonder if I was doing something wrong. My hair thrives with a medicated shampoo for my scalp, a heavy shampoo for my hair, a rinse out conditioner and a whipped shea butter/coconut oil mix to style. (Raw shea butter does not have the same effect as whipped for me) I’ve tried things outside of that, but nothing else keeps my hair consistent and easy to maintain.

I can't use non-clarifying shampoos. They don't get my hair clean enough and my scalp always has a layer of dead skin and oils left on it. I might follow a clarifying wash with a moisturizing shampoo if I could use the second wash but don't it to be as harsh though. But on their own, moisturizing shampoos are a no-go.

Aloe vera and oil pre poo, sulphate shampoos once a month, bentonite clay every 3 weeks, Dax hair grease, whipped shea butter, infused oils, deep condition, finger detangling is a big NO NO, wide tooth comb and detangling brush is an absolute must, henna treatment......all these work for my high porosity hair. I don't use all at once but a combination of them. I deep condition every wash day. I re-moisturize every two days.
