I appreciate so much how relatable you are. Any time that I see a curly or any other kind of influencer sort of show how financially successful she is I tend to unsubscribe because in today's world I just no longer find them as relatable. Drug store hair care and low maintenance all the way!

From a Kentucky girl with a southern accent, your accent is absolutely yummy! I have been wearing my hair curly since 2005 while in high school. Even with 15 years of gel & mousse, I still have learned a lot about my hair on youtube here in the last few months. Your channel was one of the first I watched. Curly Susie is a great name! 🙂

Haha - indoor hair! That cracked me up! I agree so much with this. I find the further I got into rebuilding my curls/waves, the less product I used. There was a bit of a learning curve for sure to determine what worked best for my hair, but the time spent on my hair is a fraction of what it was in the beginning. Some days I just throw it up in a bun and call it a day. Others, I just let the curl relax into waves and go with that.

Thank you, Curly Susie! My curls loosened during pregnancy and now drop so fast that most days I'm in this wavy, limp no-curls-land and I feel like I'm letting the side down not having corkscrew curls 24/7! It's so refreshing to hear someone be straight up about the reality of how we're "influenced" as viewers. I prefer simple processes and budget-friendly products. You are always an inspiration and my favourite curl ambassador 😊

I’ve always been a “tree hugger” but I have always tried to re/upcycle things. I just got in to shampoo bars and I love them! Won’t go back to regular shampoo. Great advice!! Im 55yr and 3 yr ago was told I had curly wavy hair and was shocked!! I look bad and realize I've ALWAYS had super short hair because no hair dresser could help me manage my "frizzy, unruly" hair, I looked back at 50 yr of pic and in fact have wavy curly hair WHO KNEW. I have above layered shoulder length hair now, which I'm REALLY struggling with, finally have located a hair designer to work with me. But am finding it difficult to locate affordable products, ive tried a few high end and they are ok but I have yet to find my gem products, technique. Taken me 6 yrs to grow my hair out, days I want to cut it all off but don't knowing I'll be in my early 60's before I reach this length again. I'll be watching your videos for help advice. Thank You!! GREAT tip on you tubers hair Shiney, edited perfect light!! Goat girl with curly hair!!

Thanks for being real and keeping it simple. For me this curly girl journey was also about getting the right products for my hair type. It took me like ages to realize that my curly/wavy hair needed the more light products. Seems so simple but it took a while for me. Grz. from the Netherlands.

Oh Susie this is awesome! I'm also a 30-something mom of 2 boys and there's just no time to style all the time. I love how you keep it real. I typically use a leave in, cream and gel, but I'm going to try just a gel to see how it does. I'm not very consistent in keeping it curly. Influencers have great info and products a lot, but annoy me. Thanks for being one of us. ❤

Thank you making this video. I used to have really really curly hair between 3b and 3c, healthy and thick hair.. my first two daughters have similar hair. My last daughter has straight hair even though both my husband and I have really curly hair around, his around 4a. But we have a lot of mixture in our family including two grandparents with straight hair. After a year postpartum my hair started changing.. it become a 2b, I was so sad about my curls. Didn’t realize it was a hormonal thing, I thought it was because I changed my hair product. Then got hit with Covid, my vit D levels dropped, and my hair for whatever reason decided to fall out about half of my hair gone. Imagine trying to do a curly method on stringy, thin almost straight hair. In come the scissors, ive been cutting my hair for the last 2 years hoping that my hair will bounce back. Now it’s a pixie-bob 😢 and my hair still isn’t as curly 🤦🏽♀️ between 2c and 3a with very few 3b pieces. This video couldn’t come soon enough, things have changed with my hair and I just need to embrace the change and stop trying to get it back to what it used to be. This has been a 4 year struggle and I am going to embrace the change and enjoy the hair I now do have. Atleast it’s back to looking healthy 🤷🏽♀️

Absolutely true! I hadn’t really seen my true curls in years. Ever since I would get it done by my mom as a little girl and she didn’t know how to treat it, then I never knew either so once I finally learned and cut off the damage I was concerned that my curl pattern loosened, it didn’t it was always loose we just never knew how to treat it. 🤷🏽♀️

I’m retired on a budget so you are so perfect for me. I’m new to this, keep using my clean shampoo and conditioner and I bought Cantù gel which was the least expensive at Walmart. I ordered a silk pillowcase from Amazon. That’s it. I will buy the gel you use if I’m not happy with the gel. I have never used gel before!

Thank you SO MUCH for this video!! I found your channel years ago when I tried to start my curly hair journey (like my profile pic in here). I love that picture…but I was trying to do EVERY STEP and to get my hair PERFECT EVERY TIME like everyone was showing. It was so stressful, time consuming, and not fun…which made me hate my curly hair and I stopped all together. Everything you said in this video has been the things I TRULY wanted this journey to be. So thank you so much for giving me peace in starting this again 💜

So many great points! I'm definitely guilty of sharing more photos of myself when my hair is freshly styled. I really agree with your tip about aiming for 'middle ground' hair more so than that freshly styled hair. My hair is wavy and most of my blog readers have wavy hair too, and I get asked about refreshing often. My answer is that 95% of the time I don't refresh at all between wash days, and I just don't expect my day 2 and day 3 hair to look like wash day hair, I expect it to be looser because that's just my hair.

This is such a great, practical video! In particular, I appreciate the tip about looking for alternatives to expensive online products. I’m also in Nova Scotia and it’s hard to get things here. The temptation to drop lots of money on products elsewhere is a very real thing and I am never thrilled with what I wind up getting, especially when I look at how much the experiment cost me!

I loved that first thing you said about the goal not being to make your hair the curliest possible. I have 2a hair and it used to be much wavier till I got a pixie cut and chopped off all my waves. It’s now down to my chin again and only has one wave in it where it used to have loose ringlets. Not sure what happened or how to fix it, but it looks shiny and healthy. I do have lots of allergies though and am very sensitive to products so 90% of the time I just shampoo and condition and just let my hair do it’s own thing. I work from home anyway, so my family are the only ones to see my hair on most days, but it’s not that it looks bad… it looks healthy, just not as curly as I know it could possibly be. Funnily enough, it’s actually better on day 2 than it is on wash day.

Everything you said in the video is 100% accurate and similar to my mindset. Also, I have wavy, curly hair that looses it's tight curls during the week. But mt hair is healthy and thriving, because I follow a super simple hairstyle and also don't manipulate my hair too often, I also embrace my natural frizz when it does show up, coz I've learbed that frizz doesn't always equal damged or unhealthy hair. Frizz at times, just means your hair is alive lol. Sorry I'm late to this video. Lol. Love you girl!

Thanks for the Vid, Curly Susie. I fell totally into the trap of You Tube Influencers and spent a ton of money buying all the products hoping my hair would look like theirs. Love your honesty; thank you! My problem is that if I don’t do a full redo in the morning, despite doing all the “things,” my hair is so frizzy! I definitely understand the "my hair is curly but more towards the wavy side" my hair is like that too!! I also enjoy when my hair looks as curly as can be, but I don't mind when it looks more towards beach wavy, it's just not my preference haha but I only do refreshes on damp hair inbetween washes 😊 your videos are so calming and helpful to watch! Also, I only watch hair info videos here on KZbin- the perks on not having social media besides Pinterest if you count that 😂 great info though for those out there!

Your honesty is incredibly refreshing! I've been following you for quite a while, but I'm starting to realise that I'll have to binge watch your old videos because I really, really need some proper advice on styling my hair. There are so many products, so many "methods" that I'm always feeling confused. It came to a point of me using just a SLS and silicon free shampoo. And that's it. No conditioner, no gel, mousse. Absolutely nothing. Simply because I don't want to buy a ton of products that won't suite my hair and I've never been keen on styling my hair too much. I don't use heat(I never did...I'm too lazy🙄😁) and after washing my hair- it looks like sh*t.🤦🏻♀️ To summarise- I'm lost and I wholeheartedly hope I'll find some good advice about all I've counted above. Thank you for this video. I really needed this to finally begin with taking care of my hair. Love from Croatia

I would definitely recommend using a conditioner or at least a leave-in. Doesn’t have to be expensive or something fancy. Just a simple drug store conditioner is better than nothing. Some people with straight hair can get by without but if you have curly hair I just think that you probably need it. I went years were I just used shampoo and I could never grow my hair long because it became too dry at the ends when it reached my shoulders. It clearly needed better care.
