It’s crazy that GSP could still walk into a title shot at both 170 & 185 today and still possibly be considered the favorite to win both those fights.

Tbh I think most of the current champs would be favourite just because of how the sport is constantly evolving and to be a champion now you have to have such a well rounded game. There are a few guys like GSP (Im leaving out Jones and DJ because they are still active and its pretty obvious they are dominant in both eras) that were very well rounded for their time but their competition wasn’t necessarily so it was far more of an advantage compared to being simply mandatory now. This debate is similar to comparing past and present basketball players, back in the day there were greats but there is no debate that level of skill now is far superior to then, almost everyone including centers can shoot 3 pointers at a consistent percentage and handle the ball which was unheard even just 15-20 years ago

Chris weidman fought far harder competition than Strickland & would probably dominate him if he talking prime Weidman. 205 is also a division that is far worse than 10 years ago when guys like Shogun, Evans, Machida & Rampage were the top

Jon vs Cain: Jon by majority decision, competitive fight though. Jon vs Jamahal: Jon by murder, via whatever way he wants. Strickland vs Weidman: Strickland If he can stuff the TDs and keep It standing. Leon vs GSP: GSP, due to greater versatility. Islam vs Pettis: Islam via mauling. Volk vs Aldo: Volk, although I do think Aldo would put up a better fight and probably surprise Volk with his diverse kicks. O'Malley vs Barao: Good fight, but Sean would probably chin him as he comes In. Pantoja vs DJ: Much like Leon vs GSP, DJ would win due to being more versatile.

Yup, and that was a physically In prime Glover who was on a 20-fight win streak steamrolling everybody Including even a current HW champ like Bader, and Jon dismantled him for 5 RDs, Glover was manhandled In the clinch, sliced up with elbows, was picked apart In the pocket, and even got his shoulder dislocated by Jons shoulder crank. @@lukeinvictus I just went back to re-watch the highlights for both. Granted, Hills victory was more decisive. Then I gave it credit for. But considering John Jones was about 14 years old, and he was throwing axe kicks, crescent kicks, spinning wheel kicks, shoulder cranks, side oblique kicks, spinning back elbows/fist, rising elbows, flying knees, and literally anything else he could think of even styling using George Foreman’s boxing stance. He also chose to take Glover down, knowing it was playing it to his game. He had 15 straight minutes of highlights in a 25 minute fight while Glover had none and the commentary team was absolutely blown away.

I think Hill vs 2013 Jones is actually a competitive fight. Aside from the skill level evolving to the point where 2019/2020 Jones in his prime years of early 30s was getting pieced up and barely scraping by with split decisions and arguably robbery wins over strikers like Thiago and Reyes, and I think Hill is better than those versions of Thiago and Reyes when it comes to striking and his overall game You say Hill not finishing Glover is a fault on his part, but Jones also went to a decision vs Glover. Yea Glover was younger but he wasn’t championship level yet when Jones beat him but was undeniably on that level when Hill beat him And I’d argue 2020 Jones is better than 2013 Jones who was beating the Old Guard of the LHW division, Pride fighters from the early 2000s, Chael and Gustafson in a wild fight that could’ve went either way I think Leon Edwards vs GSP would be very competitive too. GSP admitted his prime self would have a hard time against people like Usman, Leon and Khabib. You could say it’s him being humble but in context he has a quote of saying it’s hard to admit, but fighters of today are better than fighters of the past, specifically referring to his era. So I think Leon can clutch a W against a slightly out of prime GSP. I think Leon would be able to stuff the Takedowns considering the TD defense he showed (The upcoming Colby defense will determine whether I’m sold on it or not), and I think Leon’s a more technical striker, with both not being KO artists usually. The rest I either agree or have no idea about

Bro you are lost if you think glover was a better fighter at 42 vs hill than at 35… also did you watch that fight? Jon fought glovers boxing style in the pocket and gave the guy brain damage. Jon is so much better than you are giving him credit for😂 Reyes trained his whole life for Jon and lost when Jon barely cared. The guy ran through the division three times, I don’t think he was really giving it his all like he did in fights where he respected his opponents. You’re talking about a guy who has fewer fights than Jones has title wins! The light heavy weight division is much worse than it was 10 years ago (the only division this is the case for) and glover becoming champ is proof. These guys are mid as hell
