Rice Museum Library is available to the public by appointment! What you could see in that bookcase is just the tip of the iceberg- we have a few thousand books in our collection, and many vintage magazines. Looks like we do have a copy of The River Runs North and the Glossary of Obsolete Mineral Names if anyone local is curious and wants to flip through those. We don't check anything out for off-site use, just in the museum. Those other agate books look amazing!

That was another outstanding SNS video! I think reading up as much information as you can, before cutting into those Montana agates, is a stellar idea! Get as much knowledge as possible. Then you can more confidently cut those Montana's, and know what you are looking for and at. The Montana moss agates are some of the most unusual agates you will ever see! I can't imagine what these huge agates looked like rough, before they tumbled down the Yellowstone river for miles and miles, covering many states! And they are still enormous! They are in a class unto themselves! Those look like such beautiful books too. As for your pet peeve, you are not alone! I was taught in highschool to write letters and although some of the information is obsolete now, they don't have to be formatted like a type written letter, because emails are a little less formal. But that being said, just because you don't format an email like you would a letter, it really is common courtesy to address the person you are sending it to, and then explain the nature of the email and thank them for their time and finish it off with saying who it's from! That is common courtesy and you aren't sending a text to your friend! It should be the same whether it's a known acquaintance or a business. It's an email. It's not a text. And your video on the Rice Museum was just phenomenal! So beautiful! And I understand that they opened it up just for you to shoot the video with the tour and interview, so you couldn't leisurely stroll through the museum, but the areas you did capture was so enchanting that I don't know a single person who watched it and doesn't want to go for themselves! You did it justice for the time you had. And my goodness, it's just incredible! I went there so long ago and I really don't remember it all too well. I was that young. And it has changed. But I have to go now! And I'm waiting to go with a friend that will enjoy it as much as I will! And I can't wait! It's not that far away from me and I have no excuse, well other than I'm handicapped and can't drive anymore! Lol. That's slowing me down just a tad! But I will make it there and hopefully not too far in the future! Thank you for another awesome SNS! I look so forward to these! Thanks Jared!

I'm very excited to get to work on these but since I don't have an unlimited supply I think reading up on them first is the best course of action. It really is funny how the low effort nature of the internet has really taken hold and I think we see that in how people both treat each other online as well as how they communicate, which is often rather poor. When you make it back to the museum I would love to hear your thoughts on it as it is today vs. what it was when you visited.

I love how intellectual and methodical you are about rocks. I look forward to seeing what you come up with when you finally slab them! I would implore you to end-polish that limbcast, rather than cutting it, as specimens that shape are somewhat rare, and it doesn't look like it has much in the way of dendrites in it.

Hi Jared, I am glad to have you as a resource and I am very happy you emphasize and appreciate the acquisition and use of books. I hope more subscribers support you on Patreon. Since I work 50 plus hours a week and don’t have the bandwidth to do the research I want to do it is great that you share good information. I am also glad you mentioned Brian, the latest from Julie is he is doing much better. I spent a day on their claims last month and they are wonderful people. I am looking forward to going back. Lastly, I have a question…Many Texas agates I find by the Rio Grande look very similar to the traditional, clear Montana agates. Could these Texas agates originate from the Yellowstone area and then carried by water or glacier down to Texas? Thanks for your good work!

Jared, I have to sadly agree with you on peoples letter writing skills leaving a lot to be desired. I cannot stand it when I see posts like what you described, ie: blurry photos and no context. How does that help anyone? I am dating myself but I grew up in an age when writing thank you letters on paper to grandparents at Christmas and birthdays was the norm, and expected of us by our parents! No email and long distance phone was expensive and reserved for parents. Writing and grammar skills were actually taught in school. To this day I still strive to convey my written thoughts as properly and eloquently as I possibly can. I don't always get it right but I do my best. Proofread your words, think how they may be conveyed to others that can't read your thoughts and don't know your character. Rant over.😀

I believe the school system has dropped letter writing and cursive writing as well. I work with a lot of people in skilled trades who can not print at all. Chicken scratch!😂 loved the SNS! 🍻

One thing that I recently saw is that they will be bringing back cursive handwritten to California to combat A.I written articles in school, so kids will need to start hand writing things.

Letter writing has not been taught in any of the schools my kids have attended yet. But cursive is still being taught at some schools. Cursive is really great for kids that have trouble with printing and hand movement motor skills. Thanks for the SNS!

You have an interesting question about teaching letter writing in schools. I've heard they are no longer teaching cursive writing style to children. Back in my days (a long time ago), that was when English was a subject and they taught you how to not only write a letter, but to write it in cursive. AND these children will be the ones taking care of us when we are old and need assistance. Maybe I can barter rocks with them?

There are plenty of us still teaching cursive writing and English or Language Arts is still a subject that includes letter writing. We just don’t smack kids on the knuckles with rulers anymore when their handwriting isn’t perfect.

I just saw an article about a bill in California that will require students to learn cursive again. "The goal is for students to be able to read and write in cursive. She pointed out that teachers may start to give hand-written exams because of the rise of AI in classrooms, and cursive allows students to write faster." A.I. will bring back hand written everything since it can't be faked in the same way.

@@CurrentlyRockhounding I was in the Navy with a guy who looks a lot like you. Went through basic training with him. He didn't make it through mentally. I spoke with you about a Covington ultimate sintered wheel from CES that had break in issues. Turns out, after they sent me a super coarse dressing stick to reshape the wheel face, it was from finishing chatter because I had it nice and flat but there was still some hillyness on the edge. As I moved across the stone my hand cramped and I lost trueness with the wheel. The leading edge dipped and began the death wobble, I immediately pulled away and stopped to get my hands and wrists back in order. After a safety meeting I come out to inspect the damage of what happened, it was exactly the same as what I had just fixed minus the oxidation so it wasn't nearly as visible. My hypothesis is they either had fixture failure or they finish by hand. I'll see how it wears compared to the heirloom wheels from Kingsley North. I've been thinking about starting a channel, I've only got a phone at the moment as equipment took priority over marketing. All good things come in time with the right attitude. Thanks for replying it makes your channel much more appealing to me. It's seller that you share all of this knowledge with those seeking this wisdom. May your agates be laced and plentiful 😎

@@marcussmart3275 You should 100% start a channel! It can be really fun to start making and sharing videos of what you're working on. Also a phone is perfect for making videos. When I stated making video I didn't even have a good phone, I was using the very first GoPro Session that came out in 2015.
