Sweet, Jared - I'm just getting caught up on your SNS. Thanks for the shoutout! That first tubular agate you showed is a limbcast. Cool! Fifty bucks for a bucket of agates is a pretty good deal. It looks like you have some jasper or jaspagate in that pile as well as Montana agates. They're all beautiful!
@largent45 Жыл бұрын
That was a screaming deal on those agates! I paid $5 for maybe a third of those! And your best bet for iris is around a quartz pocket. They tend to have iris most often in Montana agates. Or if you see lots of bands in a nonquartz centered agate but those are rare. But those other agates are good for dendrite pictures, for cabbing. So if you cut a agate down the middle and see a quartz pocket in it then you can take a thin slab off it and you may not see the iris until it is polished and thin enough maybe 1/8 of an inch or less. But don't chop up the whole rock that thin unless it has iris because you can't do much with slabs that thin otherwise. The ones that don't have banding and are just beautiful moss agates don't need to be cut up other than in half, so you can see inside. But if you are going to find iris at all, it will be in a Montana agate! I wish you great luck on your hunt for iris. And it won't show until it has been polished either. So you won't know for sure until then. And you and Sarah did awesome on your river hunt! You guys are trained for Oregon or Washington agates and we just don't grow them that big around here! That's for sure! But your best bet that I saw of the ones you bought and showed is that one that you have in your thumbnail for this video. It is banded around a quartz pocket and if you can slice it the long ways, I see tons of iris potential with that rock! You just need to cut that white face off of it, and behind there is what you are looking for! Id bet on that one for sure! Thanks Jared for withstanding the freezing cold temps to hang out for another SNS for us!

The author of the books is Tom Harmon. His Etsy shop is HarmonsAgates. He has some Iris agates listed and they are beautiful. His work is very inspirational. I too am interested in the name of the person with the 5 gallon bucket of rocks. Fyi... that bucket has quality rocks in them. I see dendritic color, rusty Carnelian areas, quartz pockets, fortification bands. An incredible deal for sure. The one you held in you fist most likely an over $50 agate alone. Hope to hear from you with the info. I can't wait to see your cutting video on those Montana Agates. Good Luck!

A very generous viewer of the channel just sent me his books which I have very much so looking forward to reading. Currently they are only selling in Spokane but if you're local here shoot me an email and I get you his information. I'm tempted to wait to do much with these until I get Toms books and read them some so that I have a better idea of what I'm working with.

@CurrentlyRockhounding thanks! I have that Iris book on my Christmas list along with Katydid's rock book and the 3 turquoise books from John Hartman-Durango Silver in Santa Fe. If the Montana Rock guy decides to ship that would be wonderful. I'm in California. Also I believe there's a great article on Iris Agates in Rock and Gem Magazines

Hi Jared, Great bucket of agates, I thought the first one you picked up looked as though it could have been agatized wood. I am no expert, I have only admired the mineral riches of America from afar. Look forward to the cutting video.

It is always fun to watch actual hounding. The bucket-o-rocks is a good buy….some nice ones there. I hope you find iris. I think some rock sellers pay a rancher and use a backhoe and a ( mining) grizzly to harvest rocks. Not pretty, but it works. I have a kid in Vancouver, Wa. and she loves the Rice. I look forward to your videos and will try to get there next year. Thanks!

Cool video I would definitely buy those rocks for $50, that's an incredible deal in reality. If you had the motivation you could cut , polish, market all that agate and make $1000's Each cab or slice is $5 - $20 give or take. If it was me I would prepare it a little at a time and expect to make $ or gifts over a long period of time. Good luck Thank you for sharing

@@CurrentlyRockhounding you really don't have to be a sales person as much as just have a web site/ page where you sale the stuff you make linked to your channel. If your like me you just make stuff now and then but after a while it builds up so why not make some $$ My personal biggest problem is valuing the stuff I make. You don't have to stick it to people price wise but you gotta make it worth your time. I think that is about as involved in sales as needed. Good luck I'm sure you will do well That is definitely some nice agate and with your own personal touch and take on stuff $$$

Did you find my name at the museum? I've donated a few pieces and they've put my name along side the pieces. That's unusual for you to buy rocks. They look really good (from the perspective of a cabochon cutter). I hope you find that elusive Iris you're looking for.
@CurrentlyRockhounding Жыл бұрын
I think we missed your labels there. We didn't have enough time to really see everything there in the way that I wanted but we will for sure be making a return trip. I'm glad that you approve of these agates because as someone who doesn't really make cabochons I hope use some of these for that purpose.
@spetkovsek57 Жыл бұрын
@@CurrentlyRockhounding Montana Agate is one of my top few for cutting cabochons. There are so many different patterns in them, so you never know what you're going to find. Also, when you've cut them all up and you're tired of them, let me know and I'll find a home for them.😈 From what I could see, they looked pretty good. I think you got a decent price for what you got too.
