Not so fun fact: The Alton Smiler coaster featured in the first commercial actually had an awful crash in the summer of 2015 that required two people to have amputated legs. It also already had some serious issues leading up to that event. Who knew: a cursed commercial for a cursed coaster!

Neat! _snaps picture_

Actually, as far as I’m aware, the ride didn’t have any issues leading up to the crash. The ride was running perfectly fine that day. The crash was unfortunately caused by human error and could have easily been avoided. The system sensed that another car was on the track, which automatically stopped the car with the riders. However, the ride operator was unaware of the other car and overrided the system, believing it was an error. Obviously this led to the full car continuing on the track, where it eventually collided with the other car.

The crash WAS human error, I think it’s important to note. The ride ops ran it when the computer was telling them not to, high winds and another car stopped on the track. The park handled it with grace as well, they paid reparations without complaint. It’s really a shame that the media jumped on it and demonized the ride. Of course it’s horrible that the accident occurred, but the ride is safe. Also the real cursed commercials are the “Smile Always” series. I’ll never forget the grin on Miles Cedars’s face… I’m still a big fan of it!

The real answer is probably just because we're all conditioned from a very young age to associate Velcro on shoes to being "a baby", and everyone just goes with it. At some point, we as a society decided that Velcro is only acceptable on shoes if you are a young child, a senior citizen, or someone with a physical or mental disability. Essentially if you have the ability to tie your shoes without much difficulty, the world has decided that's what you should do. I absolutely agree with you, though. One of my favorite pairs of shoes I ever had (and probably the one I wore for the longest) were a pair of skate shoes with a single Velcro strap at the top, and laces underneath. I was able to just lace it to a medium comfort level so I could slip them on or off, and then used the Velcro strap to get them as tight as I needed.

Due to demand on the day, an extra cart was added to the tracks but no-one told the operator. And when said cart failed to complete one of the inversions (it was really windy that day so the ride shouldn't have been operating at full capacity) the automatic safety system stopped the ride. However, the operator thought it was an error since he could see all 4 carts (not knowing there was a 5th one) elsewhere on the tracks to where the system said the obstruction was. That rollercoaster does actually gas you, or at least did at the time - it would spray laughing gas at you at some point in the track. Oh, and as some people have already said, it caused two passengers to need leg amputations in 2015.
@andromeda_va392 жыл бұрын
Wait, for real? It would actually gas riders? That's messed up.

ok you are seriously misinformed and need to watch coaster videos about it lol

God that Sonic Progressive one brought back memories for me. I remember seeing it for the first time in a hotel room and I thought it was cool! Probably because I was 7 and a huge sonic fan.

I've been on the Smiler... It was a great ride... all but one part that I really didn't like at the beginning where it stops on a vertical piece of track, and you sit there for a few seconds just looking up at the sky... but it's ever-so-slightly leaning backwards, so you feel like you're going to fall up and out of your seat if the harness isn't working right... Freaked me out.
@tornadodee1482 жыл бұрын
did you go before or after the accident in 20015 where they took down most of the theming??

Love the long running gag of *H o o t W i r e l e s s* continuing Also, that wasn’t the first time the Got Milk campaign did a brilliantly cursed take on a food mascot, as they did one with the Trix Rabbit as well.
