Surely that little space would be perfect for cutlery and cooking utensils being so close to the cooker. A little plastic tub that can be slid out either side would work. And love that K-mart vinyl!

Yeah that would be a great place for BBQ tools etc!

Enjoying these episodes. Your canopy is progressing along nicely. For the bench top where your stove will sit, I'd always recommend using a sheet of aluminium or stainless steel. Bottom of camping stoves can get very hot. Enough to leave scorch marks on timber top, or melt plastic table tops. Keep an eye that your vinyl cover doesn't melt and/of catch on fire.

Great to see some simple fails, as most of us will do ourselves too. Nonetheless even without fixing that bench top I'd be stoked with something that looks that good and is so practical. 👍👍

Gday just found your channel and liking the content. I thought I’d share some handy advice. Id recommend installing framing on the full perimetre and additional pieces across the width to allow for more fixings. These laminated timber panels will cup/twist without proper fixing, especially in a hot canopy in our climate. As for the preparation of the bench before applying sealer(if you want to redo it) you’ll need to start at 40grit sandpaper then 80-120-180-240 blowing down in between each grit. Once you finished the 180grit you want to get a damp cloth and wipe the hole piece down and allow it to dry. This is called “raising the grain”, then you can hit it with 240grit to finish. this should leave you with a much smoother surface. Hope this helps

I did the bench top in my laundry and prepped the timber with 320 grit sand paper if you did the stain for 2 coats and a clear coat would get smoother but just a time thing

Nice work on it, I’m sure the bench tops will be an easy fix. As an idea you could use sika flex instead of rivets, or a combination of both. That way there’s some rivets left for the rest of us 🤣
@explorebound2 жыл бұрын
Haha but then it wouldn’t look as fancy…!! 🤣 Good suggestion though, that would be a quicker and effective solution 👍

Great work. Well use of what otherwise would have been wasted space.👍 As a stove bench, definitely stainless steel for ease of cleaning and heat safety.

Coming along nicely mate, and on a good budget. Just give it a sand in-between coats. Looking good🇦🇺👍🍺❤️

It’s all coming together really well! When I did bench tops in my canopy I used a “hard wax oil” really easy to apply, super durable, and it looks like a pro did it not a weekend warrior like me 😂😂 keep up the great work mate 👍🏻

We all have those little fails mate, sometime shit happens. Just an fyi be pretty careful grinding around your car, even though you’re not pointing it directly at the car the steel dust settles on the car and the glass and can give you grief later on.
@explorebound2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good point, cheers, I tried to keep away from the car as much as possible but definitely safer to have it out of the way all together

Generally when apply varnishes etc on timber it lifts the grain of the time causing the rough surface. There is a sanding sealer you can apply before varnish thiug. But in you cause resand and varnish. You might have to do it 2 more times to get the smooth feeling though.. Coming along nicely mate.

How thick is the metal you used for the storage box? How hard was it to cut a straight line with the grinder?
@roughnecktrekker19762 жыл бұрын
Maybe try 16mm melamine from Bunnings. Comes in a white, black or a wood grain finish and is tough as nails as a benchtop. Cut to size and iron on matching edge banding.

How did you mount the side Infill panels on the other video, going to give this a crack love it
@explorebound2 жыл бұрын
Hey James, I attached the infill panels with the smallest L brackets I could find, screwing the brackets to the metal box frame and then screwing through them into the wooden infill panels. 🙂

Yep the DCDC is wired to the vehicle ignition, bit annoying having an extra wire but it's a neccessity with smart alternators unfortuntely.
