Custom Cat Tower Plans | Building with Wisdom Preserved

We got two little Maine Coon kittens recently and they have begun to want to climb and scratch. In order to fill that desire, we have designed and created a cat tower for the most robust of cats. We were able to create it out of all recycled materials. (Except the rope.) It turned out so adorable. I am pleased to be able to share my plans for it with you.

Thanks for being so thorough explaining the making of your cat tree, I have 5 cats but the cat tree I have isn't enough for them, this looks far better than what I can buy at Petco

Aren't you worried about all the wood stains being TOXIC? Also, I'm curious why you made the pillars so thick? They're significantly larger than most chairs for people, so just wondering what you're reason was for choosing that size? Thank you for the detailed build instructions.

After curing, the stain is considered non-toxic. If you are worried about it you can use linseed oil, which is very pet friendly, or just use wood like cedar so it doesn't need to be stained. The thick pillars are not really necessary for stability. We had them left over from when we used them for supports during our root cellar building project. (They had to be stout for that.) I like to reuse wood whenever possible. Besides, I like the aesthetics. You could modify it with smaller beams and it should work just fine.

how could I attach the platform without an exposed screw? (I don't want to cover with carpet)

You could use finishing screws which have much smaller heads or fill over it with wood filler.

Must be all natural, no chemicals, no stain ,no spaying,it’s not good for your cat. They don’t care how it looks, all they care about is that it’s sturdy, and they’re not gonna fall over, and get hurt. I can understand if you wanted to match your room and Thats cool but do it in the natural ways you could do that instead of staining it, you can use natural oils to cover it. Instead of spraying it, use natural wood oils that won’t harm the cat. specially in the underside where they’re never gonna go, but they might? so it should all be natural. All the cats care about is, is it stable for them to step on, is it gonna fall over, the base must be a wider base it must be wider than the tower itself, so it doesn’t bother any cats. another way to handle that as well that it is secured to the wall, so if they do jump off it, it won’t fall over and hit them or another cat. or just secure it to a existing side furniture so that it stay secure and not move around your cat safety is paramount, taking all these things under Consideration because you want them to feel safe. and they don’t like certain smells bc there nose it sensitive to chemicals even if dried. so if you’re putting stain and things like that the chemicals on it they’re not gonna like the smell they won’t go up on the cat tree that’s why it Hast to be all natural, although that cat font seem to mind carpet spells I found. They don’t care what color it is, they just care that it’s a stable perch. & they can sit up on it easily with out it being unstable. that’s all they care about. How do I know any of this?Im what you call a cat whisperer i watch and liens / feel and see what they prefer. I know what they like and they don’t like and I’ve had cat trees and I know what some cats will like and some cats won’t but all of them appreciate natural stuff not substituting for any kind of chemicals whatsoever because regardless weather dries or not, they can still smell it.
