How to Reset a Completed Cymbal with blow torch and hand hammering.
This is a 16" Saluda Prototype, Medium-Heavy Reverse china. It was returned by a customer who wanted a brighter sound. We hand hammered it again and again and we basically lost control of the structure. We made the customer a new china and we were left with this bent up china.
Instead of continuing the hand hammering process and risking a crack, we will reset the cymbal with some high temps and quenching, which reanneals the alloy so we can rehammer it.
The logos burn from a black to a grayish white. After the logos cool, they get chalky and fall off. After a few more rounds of hand hammering, the china got fresh logos and it was given to an endorser, needing a high volume, cutting china!
