This is a pre-production sample board and some features may NOT be final!
Now available on RGRS's site (and in several colors AND with the gold plated cart slot): retrogamerepairshop.com/produ...

Also in stock direct from funnyplaying (though at time of writing, color selection is limited): funnyplaying.com/collections/...
Not to be confused with the n64freak GBA board I did previously: • Assembling a GBA... Fr...
This is a brand new design intended to be a drop in replacement for the original GBA system board. You will need to salvage a working CPU and SRAM from any model GBA (note that SP CPUs will not work), 32 or 40 pin is irrelevant, and then you should be good to go with any screen that supports 32 pin GBAs (does not support 40 pin screens, even if the CPU came from a 40 pin donor).
The supporting circuitry has been redesigned to address a lot of the flaws with the design of the original circuit and to support modern power handling and audio amplifiers but time will tell how the design ages.
Unlike the n64freak boards, these do come pre-populated with most parts, however, including full aftermarket replacements for nearly every component (amp, cart connector, power management, link port, etc) and new old stock parts for everything else (power switch, L and R buttons).
Sleep may be triggered with the A+B+Select button combo and should work for every single game, including previously unsupported titles.
RGB may be triggered by holding A and B for 2+ seconds.

Makho, you have no idea how much this video influenced me lol. I got this board but in purple instead of black. I have 2 consoles now, this board with a clear kit like your front plate with usb c battery, and a 2nd kit with a standard mobo and all the extras (speaker, amp, power cleaner, clean light kit, etc). I love them both. But this one is by far my favorite and looks so clean! But the soldering, I’m a novice when it comes to that. But a full day of patience and a microscope and I’m another assembled console later. You are a great influence in the gba modding world. Keep up the great work and content!

TL:DR; once these boards become available, I plan on buying 2. I have a GBA that I messed up when trying to do the Woozle Consolizer mod that used the flex cable soldered directly to the CPU, and then when trying to replace the clock crystal with a good one I managed to accidentally knock off 2 capacitors and lost them (C4 and C54 if I remember correctly). Surprisingly, the GBA still functioned until I desoldered the flex cable despite the fact that I accidentally broke one of the legs on the CPU. If I had remembered to use flux when initially soldering the flex cable, I probably would have successfully installed it because my issue was that a couple of the pins for the controls were shorted together and I damaged it during my attempts to fix the shorts. Even now, the power LED will briefly flash when I turn it on, so I still have hope that one day I can repair it. I have a second GBA that was having problems with the lowest volume that it would output, and when I first got it the volume would turn on when the volume wheel was turned all the way to the left. I was able to resolve that issue with some IPA, but that led to the low volume cutoff problem. I couldn't leave well enough alone and when I replaced the volume wheel, I could no longer control the volume and it was stuck at about half volume, and turning the volume wheel had no impact on the volume, and even with the volume wheel desoldered it's still at the same volume. I've replaced the capacitors on the GBA, but unfortunately two of the pads for the volume wheel were lifted the last time I was desoldering the volume wheel.

This is the older design of the board with larger LEDs and the link port issues are a result of a soldering defect with the ferrite beads near the port. You can manually touch up the solder and fix the issue in about 30 seconds if you have an affected board. After the first batch, funnyplaying revised the board to use different ferrite beads (and much smaller LEDs) and this problem has since not reoccurred.

So I've been working on an lost/abandoned GBA that was badly damaged. I have it back working and ordered a new case with a laminated IPS LCD kit + lithium USB-C battery + Omega Drive flash cart. So none of this new stuff has arrived yet but I'm starting to have concerns about the capacitors since it was left out in the elements for an undeterminable amount of time. I don't want to get it all together just to find out the caps are week and can't power cycle properly or even worse won't work at all. So now I'm kinda torn on spending another $60 on this free GBA for this new MB to make sure it is 100% functional and will last a good long time (I'm certain the CPU+RAM chips are fine and I can know how solder them to new board) . (especially since they now gold plate the cart pins). When the coolest part of swapping to this MB is the RGB LEDS but I ordered a classic grey case :, (... So should I just order the replacement caps $2.99 and take a chance on this MB or spend the $60 for this new MB which would put me around $200 spent on this GBA that I found in a ditch... But it would be a pretty sick GBA...

Saying that Funnyplaying should require this on the board THEY designed is crazy. As I said before, if you don't like it the way it is then you still have the option to add all of that garbage to this board. The only obnoxious thing here is you, my guy, so I'm just going to disengage now since you are clearly set in your ways. Keep throwing those TP4056 boards in everything you make. I hope it doesn't blow up in your face, literally.
