beautiful rifle. I made a Soddy-Daisy style gun several years ago (before I started a KZbin channel). They are really graceful and handle well. 3/4" 36cal makes a great firearm.

I like that style. The Ohio Style percussion rifles of mid 19th century were similar with that crescent buttplate. Those types of guns remind me a late 50s Impala tail fins.. I like the look and hope to have one someday.

.32 or .36! .36 if you're not good with tiny little balls. I have to use a .36 for that reason but I love a .32!

Beautiful! Being from PA, I'm used to seeing all the "full dress" guns. I've always been a fan of form follows function and just the basics, which has it's own type of beauty. This really speaks to me.

My thoughts exactly and the Soddy is my favorite gun I’ve ever had. It’s perfection in simplicity to me.

Nice rifle, thanks for sharing. I just finished reading Bill Ivey's book on North Carolina Longrifles. There's a short video on youtube about the nine schools with Bill if the book is too long for ya. It's cold up here in Northeast OH. Was 28F this morning and bout an inch of snow on the ground. Thanks again Bob.

Thanks! I rifle through my copy of Bill's book pretty regularly and have watched the video several times. The two of them sitting at a table if I remember right. I've just started really researching the NC guns in the last few years...

@@BlackPowderTV A lot of the NC rifles are much like PA rifles, Lancaster especially. But when you get over to the mountains in the West they are more like the TN mountain rifles.

It is interesting to see the design differences. Those guns were designed to get meat on the table and whatever else they were called on to do with nothing unneeded added on. They look like they belong in the woods, like they become a natural part of it. I can’t wait for my own .36, an Iron PA from TVM. Went browned iron all around so will still have that plain, simple elegance. I can see why you like that rifle so much.

Swamped or Straight barrel on that Soddy? If he no longer builds rifles maybe at least I can get one of his cool pouches....assuming the world ever gets back to normal.
@BlackPowderTV
@BlackPowderTV 3 жыл бұрын
3/4” straight just like the original. Very well balanced. He’s actually still building a little. I though he was done but he’s done one more since mine. No Soddys though. The video I just posted of the Fall Frolic Show has his display shown first in video 1 and there is one new rifle that he’s built since mine and three super cool 28 gauges. Take a look. 👍🏻

I was gettin' antsy there Bob... Afraid you weren't going to mention what caliber she was. I may have to sell off my .32 Pedersoli Kentucky and send Jim Kibler a week's worth of pay since Jack Duprey is no longer building guns.
@BlackPowderTV
@BlackPowderTV 4 жыл бұрын
Lol. Yea, I’m known to forget important info on occasion. I bought this one from him and I think it’ll be his last. He said it was his best yet, so I’m proud to have it. A Kibler is pretty darn hard to beat...

Hey Bob....love all your videos. I live in Soddy Daisy. Do you have contact info for Jack or another builder who can make a Soddy Daisy rifle???
@BlackPowderTV
@BlackPowderTV 4 жыл бұрын
Hey neighbor! I'm 30 miles east of Murfreesboro, in the McMinnville area. Jack is retired now, he's 84 years old, but the best place to find one is the American Longrifles Forum as that is where all the gunmakers and collectors are. You should be able to track one down there with a little patience. Put an ad in the 'for sale/wanted' section. Lots of professional makers there and someone can build one for you as well, but there's usually a wait of a year to three years as they are all handmade, included most of the furniture on Mountain guns.

@BlackPowderTV
@BlackPowderTV 2 жыл бұрын
I changed the barrel on my Kibler .36 to a .45. I love it too. So light. He doesn’t make kits, all of his guns were one-off bench copies of his original. He’s the only guy to make a Soddy regularly. I think he made 20-25 in his career. You’d have to get a custom maker to make you one I would think. 👍🏻

What is the feather hole ?
@BlackPowderTV
@BlackPowderTV 3 жыл бұрын
A feather hole was used in the South because the guns were always left loaded for defense or for game of opportunity so a feather of the appropriate size was kept in a hole in the stock to plug the vent hole when the gun was not being used to keep the high humidity of the south out of the charge so there would not be a problem when it was needed. 👍🏻
