Custom linked dipole from N9SAB

I got a new 20-40-80 dipole from N9SAB. I wanted the 20-40 for POTA and other portable ops, but my involvement in ARES requires the use of 80 meters and Tim customized one of his antennas to meet my needs.

It takes a lot of wire to tune a 80 meter antenna for 75 meters! Instead of cutting, I “fold back” and wrap the excess wire on the antenna. That way I can do huge gross movements and achieve a tune faster and not end up with too short of a wire! Also with a portable antenna, different ground conditions or deployment solutions could change SWR so having that extra wire to play with is comforting. Looks like a very well built antenna Tom. Great video! I just built a 20-30-40m linked dipole, you are spot on….I spent quite a while going back and forth, cutting, testing, cutting, soldering the 2mm banana plugs, heat shrink, etc.

I've tried many configs. I even used anderson powerpoles, which looking back was an expensive idea. Getting them nice and neat is the really hard part. You kind of have to buy all the parts in bulk, which isn't cost effective either.

75/80 meters is always a problem. I wonder if it would be worth the effort to make your links for 20, 40, 75, and 80 as separate links. BNC connectors are good for about 300 watts depending on frequency. 100 watts at HF should be ok.

for the digital vs voice ....could you just fold back the digital length along the voice length?>??

I’ve done that and it worked for me. So I think he could have done that but I do like the idea to add another section for digital. More setup mistake proof. :).

Hello sir can you help me. I recently bought a linked dipole at a ham fest here in the uk. Now it is so professionally made but the wire lengths are so confusing it is a 4 linked antenna. The link sizes from feeder point are 1st. Is 15ft. 2. Is 16ft. 3 is 9.10 feet. 4 is 9.1feet. 49.11feet in total can you help please. Ark uk

#1 should be for 20m and #1+#2 =40m. #1+#3=30m. The only thing I can think of is can you swap the wires from the feed point. If you put #3 on there you get 12m.
