What a thoughtful gift! They clearly have been watching your MRE videos based on some of the contents. For instance chunky peanut butter. I don't think I have ever seen chunky in one of these videos but you often say you prefer it. I also remember you saying you liked the Hawaiian punch type of drink and here it is. When you were talking about the school pizza I had to laugh. Our school pizza was amazing, because they had students making it. In the 80's everyone had to take Home Ec and one of the requirements was working in the school kitchen. So students actually made school lunches and breakfasts for extra credit. They really need to go back to that, kids learn to cook, the food was better, and kids learn to appreciate it.

As a 20 year Army National Guard soldier I'm very familiar with MRE's. I would always buy small packages of foods to augment foods in the MRE's. Packages of jelly to go with the PB. I always would trade a container of rice or pasta and put the spicy cheese spread with it. Cheesy rice or pasta. And the legendary "Ranger Pudding." Combine cocoa hot drink powder, sugar, coffee creamer and instant coffee with a little water and there you go. I loved the fact that the MRE was made up of individual smaller bags so you could take them out and put a few in different pockets on your uniform and still be comfortable. If we had extra baggies with zip loc seals we kept or cell phones in them to keep from getting wet.

Guys we are not back in "The Jungle" days. But there are cheeses that don't melt. Casa Fresca comes to mind. But these is the best you are going to get for a product that has to survive being stored at up to three years at 80 degrees F.

Tortillas are used more than bread now because they're so light and easy to chemically treat (without it tasting bad) They Last a pretty long time anyway, in those packs they can last like 17 months or something

Or if your very careful, pull the heater out, slide in the entire and beverage, slide heater between both, then add water, but make sure it pours over the heater, with enough water to cover at least half of both. From a 23 year retired Army PSG, who’s had lots of field time and lots of MREs. You get pretty inventive with the same meals for the time you’re in the field!

Emmy! Regarding the flameless ration heater, you totally CAN get 2 things touching it to get hot. Just put the heater between the 2 items. It'll heat both to perfection in my experience. I pull the heater out, sandwich it between my 2 items, stuff them all back in and then add water. Boom. Perfection. :D
