Hello Mb Shoedoc. I need your help with a pair of shoes. They are supposed to be similar to the restored shoe on this video but I messed them up while polishing them. How can I get them to you for restoration? I really need to restore them, but I don't trust myself to do a good job. Yours, Joel Kambai Duwai

What type of brush/ brushes do you recommend? Finally got some spahir dye(5Litres 😂) cheap and have around 5 pairs of eBay finds stripped and ready to rock

I use e.l.f. makeup brushes. The foundation and eyeliner brushes work great...better than the craft store brushes I've tried.

Amazing job! Congratulations. I've got a question, what do you exactly do to close the grain and protect it after painting it? Thanks in advance for answering.
@mbshoedoc3 жыл бұрын
I re-condition to remove any unabsorbed surface dye and then you can use cream polish...optional, or just wax them. Most times I just use wax polish as I would on a non patina shoe. Once dyed they really don't need any special treatment. It doesn't need extra protection. My patina strands are 4+ years old and look no different than the day I completed them. Same for patina belts.

Thanks for the video. Just a question. How long does it take you to strip the factory finishing on both shoes?
@mbshoedoc4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the shoes but in general probably an hour to really get that finish off. These required an extra 20 mins even after I started dye...which is a very rare problem thankfully.

How did you protect the lining that covers the tongue? Did you type it off?
@mbshoedoc3 жыл бұрын
I often tape it off and sometimes just hold the tongue down so it doesn't touch for a few seconds and the dye will dry enough so it won't run off.

If you don’t like the Feibings color and it has a pink that you don’t even like, why wouldn’t you just do two coats of the Angeles dye? Again, why wouldn’t you just add the black to the Feibings ox blood? Since the Angeles is darker you are really covering up all of the Feibings color anyway. Clearly the finished product is beautiful, but I still don’t understand the logic of using the Feibings. Since the Feibings is all covered up through the process I don’t see how your methodology would add any depth or complexity to the finished product. As I said, its beautiful, so I’m just trying to understand...
@mbshoedoc4 жыл бұрын
The shoe is going to require two coats of dye to make sure the brown tones don't show. My fear is two coats of Angelus will be too dark since it is a bit darker to start with. So Fiebings gives a nice lighter pinker base color to cover the brown then the Angelus deepens the red. If I did the first coat with Angelus it would also cover the brown but may be too red and dark to start with and then the second coat would take it further. I don't know what it would look like I just know I like the look of Fiebings first and Angelus second. And this way I don't waste all my precious Angelus dye by doing two full coats with it.

Works of art! I'm an artist, I have great taste in clothing, and shoes, I enjoy dressing up, and I'm tempted to take on this craft because of your videos. I could Patina shoes as a hustle to earn extra cash. 🎨

It's quite a fun hobby that can earn a little cash for sure. I recommend starting on some thrift store or eBay scores first to get comfortable but then yes anyone could do it.

Fascinating video! Wonder if you could help me out with a question, I am a horseback rider and have recently purchased a pair of full grain calf leather boots from an Italian maker called Romitelli. Could the same care and maintenance processes (and the patina building) of these shoes that you post be applied to riding boots as well? These patina look beautiful and I'm eager to try them out myself. Thanks so much!
@mbshoedoc2 жыл бұрын
Great question and I would expect that yes the same products could work on the riding boots. You may want to reach out to the maker of the boots to ask them as well. Glad you liked the video!

I use e.l.f makeup brushes... foundation and eyeshadow. I find they work better than the craft store pay my brushes I had been using. I do clean them with alcohol after.

This is great, especially in light of the fact that Allen Edmonds seems to have removed most of their oxblood options recently! The Leeds, for example, are now only available in black and cigar, but I’d like to be able to convert a pair to their older oxblood color. Would either of these be better for stripping and dying oxblood or do you think they both are dyed too dark already?
@mbshoedoc3 жыл бұрын
I think cigar could work but Walnut is best. Never black... impossible to strip. Technically possible but takes about 2-3 weeks just stripping 🤦♂️
@kennethnegy94673 жыл бұрын
@@mbshoedoc Thanks for your quick response! Shame that Allen Edmonds seems to be in a darker, more conservative phase for colors right now. They used to have the Leeds in a walnut color that would have been perfect for this.
