@Christopher John Navarro the day before my wife went into the hospital for the last time, we spoke about guitars. My goal was to have a nice guitar to give to each child or grandchild that grandpa or Dad played, an heirloom guitar. Next morning, she collapsed, went to the hospital, and died 4 days later from radiation caused leukemia. This grandson has a double Master's degrees. 4 children, 4 stepchildren 12 grandchildren so far and most play. They don't all play the music I do, but something.

My friend found a package on her porch one day with a Taylor 25th Anniversary Model Guitar in it. Her Dad's name and address were on the original label so she called him to ask about it. Apparently Mr Taylor had worked as a repairman and luthier in my friend's Dad's music store in California. His first job and the start of his business. Airelynn then had a sweet Taylor to go along with her main axe, an Alvarez Yairi in Koa.

Knowing that trying a guitar in a store and then having the salesperson bring me one in a box doesn’t usually work for me. Because like you said, they all don’t sound the same because they are made of wood. They will all sound different. I did buy my AD27E from Alamo even after spending 2 hours playing different guitar a nearby Guitar center. 1. I had been watching your reviews on KZbin for 2 years. 2. There was no sales tax, free shipping, and 15% discount. Things that Guitar Center could not do. The results were I own a guitar that sounds good and I love as much as my D28 Ambertone and is more comfortable to sit with. My heart was getting another Martin in Mahogany but, the one I tried at GC sounded flat and dead (possibly because the strings may have been really old). I know that buying without trying has its risks but everything I’ve ever gotten from you has been great!

I have a McIlroy "A" model about the same size as the Taylor GA Cedar you are demoing. Satin finish, Western Red Cedar top, Mahogany back and sides and is likewise warm, articulate and balanced.

Very nice custom guitars. To solve my sausage fingertip issue I found a dealer with a Taylor 312 with 1 7/8 nut width in stock. I bought it on the spot. The extra width certainly helps clean fretted strings. It is a concern to order a custom guitar but I did order a Larrivee OMV40R with 12 fret neck and 1 7/8 nut but it took 14 months to receive it. I’m sure Taylor can provide a custom in less time but not a 12 fret.

Beautiful guitars! I didn’t pay for a cutaway on my Taylor custom… don’t really like the looks of cutaways, and never play above the 9th fret, so don’t need one. So, I saved $320 on a Venetian, and $480 on Florentine cutaways. Not being a collector, I paid $0.00 for bling… no inlays anywhere, no cosmetic upgrades of any kind, just a basic musical instrument. So, I ended up ordering a Sitka / rosewood 9 string GO, for less than an 818e 6 string… Chris and Cooper, keep this in mind, as you ponder Taylor selling inline guitars direct… you can order no bling Sitka or cedar topped, rosewood or mahogany bodied guitars through the custom department, and sell them less than an 800 series.

I recently bought a used Taylor 712 from 2016 that has Lutz Spruce, and now I think it's an amazing tonewood. It wasn't even my intention to buy it but when I played it in the store it just blew me away. I read Lutz is a stiff kind of spruce (good for flatpicking), like Adirondack but I can tell, it is GREAT for fingerpicking. It is wonderfully responsive to light touch (which I didn't expect) and it has great, great dynamics and tone. One of the best fingerpicking guitar I've ever had.
@texhaines9957 Жыл бұрын
I recall on a Taylor Primetime that Lutz was their Adirondack for now.
@ansgarness Жыл бұрын
@@texhaines9957 Well, they should definitey stick with it. I don't know if it's due to combination with rosewood back & sides but on my 712, which is a small body, it has a huge tone. Very versatile guitar.

my trademark taylor custom design include gloss truss rod cover; stain neck to match, bound sound hole and black buttons on my gotoh 510 taylor always has a purfling to separate wood, they are not allowed to butt two pieces of wood together without a contrasting boundary, says my friend who works at taylor. that’s prob just white fiber and not flamed maple. you can only get flamed bindings on custom (and previously on limitless) - standard models have non figured bindings

Very unique custom models from Taylor. More than any other maker, their seasonal and custom models continue to amaze in their variety of tonewoods and styling. Cooper’s demo playing is always appropriate to the guitar he’s playing. The #1 flamed maple was very, very well stained and appointed. As expected, no bass to speak of, but still very balanced if that makes sense. The 2nd model with black heart sassafras was interesting to look at, but sounded more like a cheap Ibanez with no character at all. 3rd model was similar to their 5 series, even though I love mahogany, it might have sounded better paired with a spruce top. #4, the pairing of a cedar top with rosewood makes a lot of sense, particularly with the GC size, which would be too responsive with a spruce top, but is still too trebly and would have been better and more versatile in the GA shape. I have a custom 815c w/ florentine, cedar top and cocobolo B/S that I had made to my VERY particular specs. The staff members that select wood and build their custom made-to-order guitars are the most caring, talented luthiers. They built me one of the most beautiful guitars you’ve ever seen, with a sound to match.

Here's my problem (and I get the feeling I might not be the only one...): I know exactly what I want my perfect Taylor guitar to look and to sound like, I know precisely how the Telecaster of my dreams should look and sound like, or the most perfect Martin, Gibson acoustic, I know it all!!! Unfortunately, I also know that I'll never be able to afford even just one of all the above. Hell, I would wet myself of pure joy if I could afford a second hand Martin 000-18 with an adirondack top and ditto bracing, just once in my life.
@anthonyb2334 Жыл бұрын
I’m with you . I can’t afford, but love these, and Martins, AND Gibsons. I’ve got a custom shop 0015 Martin, but I’d sell it for the last one in this video.

Incredible, thank you for sharing. Apologies if you have answered this before, but why did or do you think Taylor discontinued the "Build-To-Order" offering? Was it too cumbersome for them? Do you believe they will ever return to it? Thanks again.

they still do it, they just call it custom now. i’ve built 3 custom taylors - let me know if you want help or advice, or fine a dealer who has done them. not only is the dealer and customer relationship important - the dealer and the rep relationship can open doors to things that are beyond the paper menu
