Do you guys want me to go into more detail on the electronics & coding side of this?

This is brilliant. Would love a PCB of this to try building my own. Or you could probably sell these 😊!

Taken a while, but I finally have this on a PCB now. I just posted a new video about it. I have a couple of bugs I need to fix and the code definitely needs some work, but it'll be going on GitHub soon. :)

Thank you! I'm working on a new series at the moment to explain the individual components a bit more in-depth so that people can pick and choose which bits they might want to implement in their own intervalometer designs and how they can expand it to do other stuff.

Dad used to run electric fences off old car batteries. Just choose a big enough battery. A cheap UPS perhaps. Yongnuo has pretty cheap speedlights that can be powered externally.

Yup, I've got a few of the Godox TT600s, and PB960 packs, but they're still not going to last for several weeks at a time. Plus, I've got access to plug sockets and I kinda already bought the AC powered strobe now, haha.

i heard a long time ago that there is a controller that alternates between two ligth sources being video or grow ligth and triggers the camera when the video ligth is on. however back then i didnt need it now i cant find it. got tips ?
@JohnAldred8 ай бұрын
Well that's what this does, essentially. It turns off the grow lights when it needs to shoot the photo and then fires the flash when the camera goes off. I've just posted an update to this video, transferring it from the breadboard to an actual PCB.

Is there a write up/ code posted somewhere for this project? I am interested in building a similar system.
@JohnAldred8 ай бұрын
Hey, delayed response, but yes, it's coming soon. I've switched this over from a breadboard to a PCB now and posted a new video. Once I've ironed out a couple of bugs in the schematic and gotten some of the code working a bit better, I'll be posting it all to GitHub :)

You know, I wish my iPhone 3GS hadn't died (battery swelled up to 3x is regular size and basically tore the phone in half as it did so, lol). The camera in that thing was so terrible, but I loved it. I'd love to see what I could do with it today, haha.

Hi John, This is an outstanding rig you have created. It's awesome and I love it. I asked my grad student to reach out to you on FB to see if you were interested in a collaboration on my plant research project. Could you please check your meaasges on FB, I truly think it would benefit both of us and would like to talk to you about it and see what you think. I need some technical advice. Sincerely, Thank you very much for your consideration. This is really amazing work you have done here.

Hi Ion's cat and thank you! I don't see a message on Facebook, but I did receive an email from somebody called Alejandro this morning about this project. Is that your student? If not, my email address is on my "About" page here on KZbin. It's probably the easiest way to get hold of me. :)
