I made up my mind to take on a challenge myself to make a piping foot for my old twin needle Durkopp&Adler 268 FA-373 sewing machine. A design of my own to sew french seams at a distance of 10 mm between the line of stitches and a decorative piping in the center junction.
Needless to say, I was running after a new one in the aftermarket with no success.
Some basic knowledge of mechanics and handy tools in my shop were useful to fulfill this personal promise.
I want to share with my followers part of the whole procedures I followed to turn a piece of iron into a brand new french seams and piping presser feet. It is an artisan method.
A demonstration in leather material is done to show the presser feet work out.
We can clearly see how a thin leather piping cord is housed in the center tunnel and lines of stitches 6mm long run on both sides at a distance of 10 mm between the lines.
To ease the process of folding underside the leather piping strip was skived to 1 mm.
To reinforce the sewing of the double stitches a thin strip of stretch vinyl is laid beneath on the reverse side.
A lathe/milling operator can easily make these presser feet or others.
I hope you enjoy the video and find some inspiration!
Cesar

I just acquired a vintage Adler that does this and found it valuable just to see what it's for! I'm grateful for the unexpected bonus of learning to make new feet!

One mark of mastery is when you see the need and design for a specialized tool to make something better and easier, like this. Nice work. One-handing an angle grinder while you hold the metal with vice grips is pretty challenging. I'd get a bench vise to hold the metal so I could use both hands to hold the grinder if I were doing much of this kind if work. Yes, I know metalwork isn't the main thrust of this channel, so that's just a suggestion for next time. Nothing wrong with this for an occasional one off piece, clearly. The result speaks for itself. (And if anyone with less metalwork experience is going to try this, don't doubt that this craftsman is wearing safety goggles while doing the metalwork...)

Cesar, I've been watching hit videos for a while, picking up hints to help me with some of my diy stuff here at home. I've learned a ton! 👍 The one thing I can't figure out is how to say the name of your channel and what it stands for. (sorry... Dumb gringo here...). I really love the way you make a custom tool when you need one with minimal shop tools! Right down to using a concrete nail for a center punch! I do much the same, making do with what I have, but now I'm fortunate enough to own many tools for different purposes. It's always a pleasure to watch you work! (Yeah, OK... It also gives me some new ideas that I hadn't thought of! 😉)

The name of my channel is cechaflo...it is really a strange name, but it is the abbreviation for my three names. ce-cha-flo Ce comes from Cesar and so on. I used the sharpened point concrete nail, and others, on purpose. I like to encourage my followers to not be stopped if a tool or accessory is missing. I used to work in mechanics in the past. I was involved in hydraulic systems for presses, small and big. I like this field a lot, despite being oily and dirty. In this video I am using a correct center punch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3XMqpmcmr2fm8k

Is there a name or parts number for the lower double needle thingy? I have a Pfaff 1245 and just yesterday ditched the clutch motor and installed a servo motor. Now that I can handle the speed of the machine I‘m on the outlook for accessories such as this double needle thing, if there is such a thing for the Pfaff.
