On the Dyno the valve seems to open at a set rpm for the first movement and open the rest at another rpm/vtec engagement or boost level. Interesting.

I made 547whp on stock FK8 exhaust - once you add a 5" downpipe and 3" front pipe the sound is good but not raspy - stock exhaust isnt that restrcitive really. Was looking at the remus for a valved option but it was basically 3k or so with options 😂 bought a used greddy exhaust to help beta test a new turbo and miss how stealth my stock exhaust was - im making great power with no backpressure issues but its always open and loud. Valved option is a keeper if going to larger piping to keep the sound down around town
@LHTPerformance Жыл бұрын
That’s good to know. I’m not planning on big power as I’d like to take it to the road course and enjoy it. Mid 300s will be plenty, plus I don’t want over heat it racing. We’ll figure out the sound , then I’ll be happy with it. There’s not a lot of power in the exhaust , but there was a little.
@TheFK8Life Жыл бұрын
@LHT Performance stock turbo has more heat issues as the td04 housing is tiny and the bearings/passages are smaller My RV6 R660 is using a td05 cartridge and -10 AN coolant fittings - makes power to 7600 on stock cams On stock turbo I hated the torque spike that blew the tires off - the P600 and R660 are easier to drive and get back on throttle mid corner and corner exit I made 417/420 on stock fk8 turbo e30 ....spools too fast - easily blew my 265 Cup2s off on WOT The FL5 turbo will probably be worse as it's smaller and made for low end torque response which compounds traction issues when you up the boost. Mid 300s on 93 won't even need mods - basic tune will get the job done so should be fun to watch how you like it.
@LHTPerformance Жыл бұрын
@@TheFK8Life Definitely too much low down torque. I’m thinking we may be able to tune some of it out put a little on the top. Once we get the exhaust dialed in that I like it, the mid pipe and down pipe will be on the list. I want efficiency, so a slightly large turbo might be in the cards. I don’t need a ton of power. Thanks for chiming in 👍🏻

Big restriction there at the 3 way joint. Flow will not turn 90 degrees. With the valve closed, you will have a pressure build up that forces the flow to make those 90 degree turns. That's a restriction.

@rolandotillit2867 Жыл бұрын
The computer cuts torque in the 'low speed pre-ignition region' they tuned it that way from the factory to avoid LSPI which will put extreme stress on the engine. Lots of tunes give you big torque numbers down low, that's just a recipe for disaster.
@LHTPerformance Жыл бұрын
I understand this and something we do on our builds. Taking power down low on my S2000 was a perfect example, it was wanting to make 300+lbs tq at 4200 rpm’s which is hard on everything. I wonder why Honda put so much in on the FL5 and not the FK8 and run it so lean at the same time. Is it to heat up the cat for efficiency 🤷♂️
@rolandotillit2867 Жыл бұрын
@@LHTPerformance It could be to avoid LSPI for the most part, the lean area is where the engine has highest efficiency, if you look at any run of the mill BMEP graph you see BMEP is highest at that rpm. Only issue with that is if you run too lean it starts making combustion unstable, a lean misfire is still bad but not as bad as a rich misfire in that engine speed range. My guess is Honda rather have lean misfires than rich misfires because of the damaging nature of LSPI.
