Custom Yamaha YSR50 - Will It Run? Honda CR80 Engine Swap - YSR80

Picked up this 1989 Yamaha Ysr50 that has been upgraded to have a two stroke, water cooled Honda Cr80 engine in it! A more common swap would be to use a Yamaha YZ80 engine, to keep the bike all Yamaha but honestly after the fairings are on, nobody will really notice. I love how small these bikes are and just excited to have fun riding this bike around. Hope you guys enjoy the video.

Thats my ultimate build! I have a CR85 big bore powered XR70 (clone) and its insane! Just realize that the CR85/125/250 motors are getting EXTREMELY hard to find so you have a lot of cash in just the engine alone. This is one of my favorite builds on KZbin, I have a thing for small bikes.

Sick....bet that little YSR50 flies with a CR80 swap 😂 But um.... seems your silencer is literally rotating with the engine vibration 😅 Seems the expansion fits really well, I'd get a couple stainless tubes welded up in a Y formation coming off the end of the expansion chamber, having it split off into two, then get some skinny dual silencers sticking straight out the far open ends of the tail cowl.... would look sick 👌

The honda nsr was only available in Japan the ysr was at your local yamaha dealer all day

Awesome bike man, I recently restored one of these bikes but mine still has the ysr50 engine in it, swaps are cool for the power but way too many of these bikes have been hacked,swapped and wrecked which has made them very rare. The prices on these thing are insane and good parts cost an arm and a leg lol. It took me a few years to round up all the parts to put mine back together. The bike itself is mostly stock with the exception of dunlop tt93 tires, tcr right fork spring and the engine is an almost all out stock build. The engine has boyesson reeds, 3 plate 70s yz80/gt80 clutch with tcr springs, decked head, ported cylinder and crankcase and a 20mm carb conversion and the the oil pump removed. Hope to see more videos on this bike, I would love to see how fast it is my bike runs mid 50s.

Thanks for the comment Brian! I wish I could get a stock ysr but you are right, they are so hard to find now and much more than I can afford haha. Can’t complain tho I got a pretty nice ysr, just wish it had the stock engine. Working on a second video right now and should be up soon, stay tuned👍🏼

@@Mechanic_kid thanks for replying, yeah these bikes are as rare as hens teeth. I searched craigslist everyday,multiple times a day for over 2 years and I got super lucky and found one 50miles from me and I called with in 10min of the post being up, I got mine for $500 but it was rough, I had to rebuild the engine,buy an exhaust which was $350, had to restore the tank and coat it because it was rusted out which took several werks to repair and had to repaint everything, the bike is 99%done, I still need to paint the lower and upper front fairing but other than that it is done. I always have loved these bikes and wanted one for a long time but they almost dont exist and they either sell for way too much or get snatched up instantly. Also I have went through a the trouble of making it street legal again and some of the parts like the mirrors sell for $250 a side if you can even find them, and my bike and the front fairings shattered so I had to buy some off Ebay and they were $300 a peice, needless to say it was a very difficult and expensive restoration for me but now the bike is very nice, and very fun to ride and get compliments and people interested in it all the time. Cant wait to see the next video of this bike, keep it and dont sell it if you can, it would be hard to replace.

I’ve heard it would go upwards of 60mph. Still needs some work tho but it’s close. Then I’ll do a top speed test on it!
