For the DIY people out there a good tip is to take pictures of how your equipment is assembled so when you put it back together you know how every component was before disassembly so you can put everything back in the same order. Great video Mowermedic1.

When the cable to the spark plug suddenly doesn't fit anymore, go fetch a saw😂 Neat trick with the credit card. Saw it on Steves Small Engine Saloon also.

When you pulled it over and it backfired I went hmmm, timing issue maybe?? Then you showed where the plug lead was sticking out between the covers and someone had cut the plastic out, I said out loud to my missus, 'I bet the muppet's put the new coil on upside down' Bahaha🤣🤣🤣👍🇦🇺

Hey, I'm a mechanic. But my brother took his handheld Tanaka blower to a shop. Since he know I will disassemble my stuff & put it back together. He had me to order a carburetor for his blower. I just fixed my 7yr Tanaka blower. Well make a long story short, they put the wrong spark plug in & it was slamming into the piston. I replaced the spark plug with mine. It fired up. I also replaced carburetor and fuel lines. My brother was happy. He said they charged him
@THEMOWERMEDIC13 жыл бұрын
Tell me how you properly diagnosed that it needed a carburetor?
@rellmonger79353 жыл бұрын
@@THEMOWERMEDIC1 they told him that & sent him back home saying he might find the carburetor cheaper then they find one. So my brother had me to order one for him. I cut grass for a living he doesn't. So by buying him the exact blower. I used mine as a reference. Gap the plug , tried pull start & was locked. I asked how did they come to the conclusion it was the carburetor? He said that's what they told him. I removed the spark plug & the gap was pushed closed again. Since I had the same one. I took my plug out installed in his. It started. Oh I found 2 different carburetors online 16 bucks is what I replaced mine with it the throttle cable assembly wasn't on it. I had to use my old one. My brother carburetor was 43 bucks shipped to my house. It also was missing throttle cable assembly control

I think Mustie had something like this but with a power washer. As soon as you said “they replaced the coil” I started smiling. The amount of troubleshooting you can do just by listening to the customer. :D

Anytime the pull starter tries to rip your wrist off stop and go for timing problems, sheared keyway or coil knocked loose! Never saw backwards coil until Mustie1. Now Jeremy! Nice catch, love it!

I'm not so sure. All the hints/clues that something is a miss that went unnoticed - the spark plug routing, the extra slack on the kill wire, and the off alignment between the flywheel magnets and coil curvature.

Used to be the Pole Saw coil spun clock wise but the Clipper coil spun Counter clock wise. The way to tell was thru the color of the shut down lead. Some were red and some were white.

I had the exact same issue several years ago on an old 3 1/2hp Briggs points style that the owner had tried to convert to electronic ignition using a magnetron replacement coil. Took me over an hour to figure that one out.

Well, it helped me out, I think the ignition coil has went out on my Echo PB-413H Backpack blower. It was hard to start the first time, after I shut it off and tried to restart later, it would not hit a lick. I check for spark and nothing, replaced the sparkplug, still nothing. I am guessing ignition coil. So, I will be looking into it after I get through with all the hurricane clean up in the next few days. First time I have ever replaced one, wish me luck.

Supposedly! I love that word. It can mean anything. I picked up a Stihl HS 45 hedge trimmer that supposedly ran. If you count two seconds as running, then it ran. I have replaced both bearings and seals. I have replaced the throttle cable because the routed it wrong and pinched it up. They had none of the bolts in the right holes and it had all kinds of other problems, included a sheared key on the flywheel. That is my definition of supposedly - crap.

I was wondering if that could be the problem when I saw how they had ran the plug wire.
@LetUsRepair3 жыл бұрын
I'll admit, it was the second thing I thought of, first thing was a sheared flywheel key like you said. Only reason I thought of someone had mounted the coil upside down was because I just had an occurrence of that myself =P
@Rein_Ciarfella2 жыл бұрын
Just because some people CAN take something apart doesn’t mean they SHOULD! This is the epitome of non-mechanically inclined. “Gee, there doesn’t seem to be a way to route this wire correctly - I guess I’ll just do it my own way.”

I'm pretty sure I know what happened. The person had taken the old coil off to get the part number off of it and between the time they ordered it and when they went back to start working on it they forgot which way to turn it. I'm pretty sure her that could have been what happened since I'm speaking from experience on what happened to me once. It's embarrassing but it happens. I just learned to take pictures before ordering any new parts.

Woww! Sometimes the coils will be stamped “This side up” or “This side down” or they will sometimes be shaped in a way that they will only fasten down correctly in one position. Either way, though, if you can’t fit it, wire it, or another part can’t be reinstalled because your new part is in the way of it, you need to stop because something isn’t right! No need to yell at the customer about it; just tack on an addition 15% “I fixed your stupid mistake” fee onto his labor bill!
@guymanicone79213 жыл бұрын
Have you ever had coils that didn't fit properly so that you couldn't adjust it properly. I picked up an Amazon special for my Husqvarna string trimmer and I ended up having to shave down the body of the coil so that it fit.

I fixed someone’s hedge trimmer he put coil on wrong and took the cover off and looked at the coil it’s up side down I had to flipped another way put the spark plug wire in the hole I told him put on wrong
@mc2whls3 жыл бұрын
Jeremy, that's why they need to bring it to you FIRST. Instead of messing it all up and you having to sort it all out. There should be an Extra Fee, if the Customer works on it prior to dropping it off at the Shop.
@richardcranium58393 жыл бұрын
if you look at the "legs" of the coil they dont match the curvature of the flywheel. its always a dead giveaway.
