Rubber hose on a brake line is a time-honored assassination method
@volvo09 Жыл бұрын
I don't even think it would work. How much pressure would that hose burst at? 200psi max? That's not even going to withstand a light braking effort in the rear. Add in all the swelling, the pedal will sink super far even if it didn't blow, and any moderate pressure will blow it out. If that could survive more than I'm imagining then color me surprised!
@FarmerDrew Жыл бұрын
@@volvo09 it'll work up to a certain temperature. Think of the calipers, they're on with a rubber hose, albeit short length and of a different compound

@@FarmerDrew yes, but brake hoses are steel core. Fuel line is nylon core or something similar. I should probably look up what brake line pressures are.
@pontiacg445 Жыл бұрын
@@FarmerDrew What exactly does temperature have to do with it? Nothing... Flexible brake lines are teflon lined and backed with steel banding, all usually covered in rubber. "different compound" doesn't even begin to describe it. They are also attached with flared fittings or banjo bolts and not hose clamps slid over a round tube. The former can handle thousands of PSI of pressure, the latter can handle twelve. I could get in that car with the thing not even running and stand on the brake pedal and blow it out, assuming it's even bled free of air which is a fat chance. As stated earlier, best be glad we live in the future with dual circuit masters, although that car is now down to one...

that last one was the inspiration for the the term "rattlecan rebuild" 😂
@steveb6103 Жыл бұрын
My hobby is restoring old cars and pickups. I still would've scrapped most of those cars. If you noticed the differential had no oil on the cover. The newest project is a 1964 Riviera, 401 nail head with 2 4 barrels. Bodies clean, but the motor is locked up. Ordered a rebuild kit and will be updating the brakes.
@BlackPill-pu4vi Жыл бұрын
Thank God you're not ruining that Riviera with a typical hamfisted "LS swap". It should be illegal and worthy of excommunication to mix cars and engines that are not of the same make. Let's pretend your 401 nail head can't be rebuilt and you can't find another Buick engine of that year. It would be O.K. to put in a Buick 350 from a late 70's car because it's still a Buick engine and they were surprisingly torquey engines. Long ago, I had a '78 Buick Electra and that Buick 350 had the kind of snappy throttle response and grunt to handle the numerically low rear end gear ratio. Oddly enough, it was the smog camshaft that did that. I tried two different aftermarket cams and neither of them could match the smog cam. Blew my mind but, the proof was in the throttle response.

Lol, the car @2:13 is in my town. The restaurant uses old beaten cars to drive around until they are broken or not passing safety tests... Or crashed by the (young) delivery drivers that drive like maniacs sometimes..

Every time I watch this channel I am happy my country does two things: 1) Mandatory yearly safety inspections. 2) Anything brought to a repair shop that would not pass the safety inspections is not allowed to leave and if the owner does leave, the authorities need to be informed the vehicle is not road worthy.

The Escalade with no brakes is a perfect example of people buying used cars like Mercedes Benz, Range Rover, BMW or my favorite lemon Maserati for cheap, because they need few "minor" things. When they find out the cost of those few minor thing to be repaired, they will drive those cars to the ground without spending a dime on repairs.
