I am not running a business. I try to help people out. But you are right I shouldn't allow them to.

@@PapasHobbyGarage Shade tree mechanic myself so I end up helping a lot of friends and family with their vehicles and I see this all the time. They get parts from everywhere and it fits only about 80% of the time and none of them last for any good length. So...when I accept a "project" I'm take responsibility for the outcome on behalf of the owner. To me they're more client than customer. I do my best to explain the risks and possible outcomes and if they choose my services they accept that by nature there could be unexpected issues and delays. Its their call and more often then not I'm helping them do the work so they understand getting their hands dirty. I get compensated when the job's "done". BTW: depending on the state of the supply chain and your vendor(s), there's no guarantee that this mistake wouldn't happen to any given part that [you] ordered as opposed to the customer getting it. I hate to say it but this par for the course and no vendor can provide perfection 100% of the time.

Since the customer ordered and supplied that part they are responsible to cover the labor to RR the wrong unit. If the company that the customer ordered the part from shipped the wrong part then they should offer some sort of compensation. You shouldn't have to work for free. I order my own parts so that I can best eliminate any issues.

I typically go find a dealer or manufacturer website to put the vehicle info in and find the correct oem part number. Ill then take that oem part number and see if I can find it cheaper online than what a dealer would want for it. Once I find a few options I do my best to verify a seller is legit and not selling counterfeit parts. Sometimes searching the right part number will give some correct aftermarket options as well. I still usually verify the part is correct by comparing pictures/parts. I havent had trouble with this method yet. You just have to get good at reading some of the manufacturer diagrams, they can be confusing sometimes. Most people wont go through all that trouble, but it keeps you from getting screwed or screwing someone else installing your parts for you.

Charge him twice, he furnished the parts. Not a good practice to let customer furnish parts for this reason, however that's a shop by shop decision depending on clientele.

Ya good point I would look into the part supplier and see if they offer other sub model ones maybe and if so if the boxed it wrong or sent wrong like stated above let it fall on them. It just sucks having to wait longer.

@dustinmccurley8959 ya, the new one won't be in till Thursday, so basically it's gonna tie up a bay till Friday

@@PapasHobbyGarage ya I would definitely see where the mix up happen. If it was the supplier or the customer and try and get something. nowadays it just seems easier to get the part yourself so it cuts out one more person to deal with

I see your dilemma. But I would say 100% charge them twice, it's not your mistake. And your going to have lost revenue over the wait time for the correct parts to arrive, and the vehicle taking up the lift and the bay. Everyone makes mistakes, but most have to pay for them there selves.

I know how it is. Subframe off mounters engine giraffe etc etc. and if you say that you will charge daily for those who tried to save some money … I been there few times and that make sure they ordering good parts I’ll do search a bit and give parts number to be sure.

I always give a the price of the part when I let them them know what's wrong. My shop is to help people and I do what I can to save them money. I don't charge them more then I am being charge for any part.

I wouldn't order anything from detroit axle. Never had any luck with their parts.
