As an owner of a 2024 Overland 221MSL manufactured in March with max solar and 2 gamechanger batteries we could not be more pleased. A very good quality product that functions well off grid. The freshwater tank is 55gal. The Cerbo system makes monitoring the solar and inverter functions easy. Windows allow amazing airflow, so easy to get the hot air out on arrival at camp site. We seldom have used the AC here in Minnesota. We had a custom “dogeared” mattress made for one of the bunks to serve as a regular bed and use half the other bunk piece higher up for storage. There is also a routing path for Starlink cable. The folks at Ember have thought of most everything. .

Ok, first off, Voltron is defender of the universe, not just the galaxy. Second, STEVE! So good to see you!!! Man, it's hard to say anything bad about this unit because it does everything right. There are a few things that aren't absolutely perfect, but that doesn't truly detract from anything. I was going to say that the placement of the handle in the bathroom is bizarre, but the other half says it's absolutely freakin' perfect right where it is. I'll take her word for it, she's the one one that would benefit the most from using it. I guess if I was forced to complain, it would be the lack of default pantry and not so much clothing storage, but even then, we'd be turning half the missile bay into my desk and the other half of the bay would simply be our pantry; maybe we'd even build some storage shelves into it. Not sure what else to say, so I'll quit while we're not behind and say thanks, Uncle Josh!

Glad to see you're finally doing a 2024 221MSL video. Didn't think you would since not much has changed from the 2023 edition. Although they did change the ceiling fans to a mini model, which I'm not a fan of (That pun is for you, Josh!). I was told by Ember personnel that it was because the fans are now below the additional solar panels, so they needed a low clearance fan model. While that's true for the fan they added in the main cabin, it's not true for the bathroom fan...but I'm sure they're sticking to one fan model for inventory/supply reasons. In the 2025 versions, I'd love to see them convert the bathroom shower from the 24"x40" model to the 30"x36" shower enclosures (with the cubby shelves along the side) found in all but one of the Touring Edition and E-Series models. I was told by an Ember executive that the 221MSL has the 24"x40" shower enclosure because that's what they started with in the initial Overland Series units that were narrower. But now that they are pretty much all 8-feet wide, the 30"x36" shower is much roomier and not uncomfortably narrow like the 24"x40" enclosure they are using. I'd also like to see them offer the twin/king bed configuration they have on the 240TRK as an option...certainly not a deal-killer if they don't but it would be a cool option. Finally, they need to bring the lagun-style tables to the Overland Series. They've had them in the Touring Edition series from the start, but, again, I was told by Ember that it's because of existing/remaining inventory of the static tables. IT'S TIME to bring the lagun-style tables to the Overland Series in the 2025 models!! Other things that would be great: · A screen for the rear access door - This would be great for getting airflow through the RV instead of having to open the side cargo door every time · Slide cargo door(s) to access the storage spaces behind the sofa from the exterior of the RV (like they've implemented on the Touring Edition 24MBH) · Add 12v cigarette-style power outlets alongside the USB and 110v power outlets throughout the Overland Series · Stronger frame to enable CCC to increase to 30%-35% of total GVWR (although they've increased it to 22%, which is an improvement) · Electronic anti-sway/ABS braking system - either integrated throughout the Overland Series lineup from the factory or as a factory option · Integrated off-grid water filter (like from Blu Tech) But it's already a pretty great RV! #nerdherd

While I have your attention, I want to emphasize one of the "Other things I think would be great" because it's an easy, low-cost addition, but a very important one...specifically, 12v "cigarette lighter" plugs in addition to USB A and USB C plugs. Many high draw electronics (like laptops, CPAP machines, or any electronic that comes with an in-line "brick" on the 110v charging cord) can be changed with automobile charging cords (that plug into the "cigarette lighter" barrel-style plugs) and don't need a full 110v change via the inverter. Instead, they need between the 5 volt maximum of a USB charging plug and the full 12 volts from the "cigarette lighter" outlet. So a few additional 12v "cigarette lighter" plugs in addition to USB A and USB C plugs by the bed, by the sofa(s) and in the bathroom, would be very useful, low-cost additions. What RV mfgs need to realize on these "MAX Solar" setups is having an inverter is both nice and necessary, but the more things you can do WITHOUT engaging the invertor, the better your battery usage will be. People/mfgs need to think of inverters like generators, there are times when you need them, but you should use them as little as possible. Just running your invertor (with no appliance draw) will slowly drain your battery…and inverters just being turned on draw more power than many small charging devices. Since RV refrigerators are now more often 12v, most of the time you don't even need to engage your invertor. And some appliances, like portable C-PAP machines, don't draw enough consistent power to engage a 2000-3000 watt invertor if that's the only thing drawing on it at night, which is why a few additional 12v "cigarette lighter" plugs in addition to USB A and USB C plugs by the bed, by the sofa(s) and in the bathroom, would be very useful, low-cost additions.

I always love to see Embers. I am glad they upgraded to 800 watts. We are getting closer to my ideal. I would prefer the square sink as well, but it isn't going to be a decision maker. I am glad to see they switched out the slide system. I am still leaning towards the no slide option, but this is a good option. I would prefer if there were free floating tables and spot to slide them away into.

Thank you Josh for referencing this video to my last comment and this is more what I was looking for for all the way around because like I told you before it would just be me and my daughter and then me most of the time by myself and I have an F-150 with the tow package is just over 7000 lbs. And I would just like to point out I get the $20,000 extra. For everyone else that is out there saying they don't get it if you've ever done primitive camping you will know camping trailers can't go out to a lot of those sites an order to do a lot more of those type of campsites you would need the axle setting just like what this trailer has to get out there. And the reason I know this is because I have had family members with small trailers trying to get out there and it either tore the bottom of the axles that or their stuff was just strolled all over the place they're really just not made for this back roads to wear the suspension on these type of trailers are so that is a big part of the cost and I get that. And if you guys really think about it and if you were to upgrade your individual pickup truck or vehicle to go out and do stuff like that just go and check the prices what you would have to do to upgrade those vehicles to go out there like that it's not cheap.

Love what Ember is doing but I think they're pricing themselves out for most buyers. For me, I'd buy a NoBo or Ibex which offers the same awesome suspension. Suggestion to Ember is consider a version of this with no slide, dinette or bar on the camp side, kitchen where the slide is now. Make the enormous solar package optional. That would help bring down weight and price and probably increase CCC.

There are SO many aspects of build quality in the Ember over the Nobo or Ibex. The way the body is built, the windows, Truma systems and much more. As with so many things you truly do get what you pay for.

Ember's got great ingenuity and innovation Josh.. However, at $59k MSRP is just bonkers, pie in the sky type stuff. Vast majority of your subscribers can't afford this. Make some trailers with adjustable bunks, and rear door access at $25k.. Then I'll get serious about upgrading. Until then, my 2017 Forrest River Grey Wolf continues to get the job done!

Kick the slide and toss in a queen and we got a winner! And isn't a mother inlaw suit and a dog kennel the same thing 🤔 It's a nice rig for the right person. Way more right than wrong. To be honest the things I don't like are offset by people that will find it useful. It seems like it's going to be a family rig that looks the look but will only see a full service park. Definitely in my wheelhouse for layout, but I need to really dive into the reason why it's 20 grand more than the Rockwood/Flaggstaff equivalent layout. From what I've seen, the bunk mattresses are cheap, the Murphy sofa doesn't have recline feature and less counter space in kitchen, even though I'm a fan of the 2 burner stove(which helps). Where is that extra 20 grand going? 👍 your reviews.

Basic roof maintenance is required on all RVs, even if it’s just visual inspections to be sure nothing has changed or been damaged. We use self leveling compound to fight back against the worst that Mother Nature dishes out to us.

We are still searching for a new design to work in that instance. We DO have families that turn the bunk area into a triple stack bunk, with one mattress on the floor level.

A supposed “premium” trailer with a cable slide system? 🤦‍♂️ Probably the first indication of things to come once that trailer leaves the lot. 😬 I was very exited about these Embers, went and had a serious look at the 191 MDB. After returning home and looking up customer reviews and their experiences with Embers customer service,my heart sank and I quickly kiboshed the idea of getting one. The price too was ridiculously prohibitive ,way to much money for potentially a load of headaches.

It’s xact slide which is preferred by a lot of folks. Rack and pinion isn’t possible with the suspension design as it turns out But there’s nothing wrong with not liking the cable slide though. Always purchase according to your confidence level

Why do you think the Exact-Slide from BAL is the worst? It’s being used on high-end motorhomes and luxury fifth wheels… and Ember. It’s lightweight, uses smart controller technology for correct tracking in and out, and is fully usable in the travel mode (slide room in) position. Maybe you have this confused with a different system?

The truma air conditioner is way overrated. I had it in my Micro Minnie FLX. It has some challenges. For one, while it’s quiet, it runs constantly. It doesn’t cycle on and off as it reaches your set temperature. Some people prefer this, but I do not. And in my experience, it’s not as efficient as touted. The filters don’t do much, and are annoying and flimsy to clean and reinstall. The plenum is over engineered and is difficult to service. It could be a nice unit if it were ducted. The plenum also collects mold like crazy and is very difficult to clean. At least, that’s the case where I live in Florida. The irony is that some of the larger rv air conditioner manufacturers are from countries that don’t even use air conditioners (truma from Germany, dometic from Sweden). That said, the dometic a/c in my new camper is excellent, quieter, ducted, residential style filter, cycles on and off as you’d expect, and is more efficient (1200 watts) than my truma was (1500 watts).

@@EmberRecreationalVehicles I presume the standard permanent ladder capacity should hold me. Are you saying permenant ladders are not safe? A 300 lb person likely should not be climbing on the roof anyhow. There is already enough stuff to worry about RVing. Packing/unpacking/raising and lowering the ladder is a pain. And if I leave it up for convenience, will it get stolen? Upon leaving camp, I would prefer to easily take a quick climb up to see if any branches and stuff have fallen on the top. Plus a quick visual inspection is not a bad thing. So, in summary, why make life more complex and difficult when one is trying to relax. And since you asked, I would love to see some general re-engineering of RVs and Ember has done some pretty innovative stuff. Have you considered something that might improve everyone's experience by installing a mini-split ac/heat on the outside (for example in front or on the back just below the roof? These units provide both cooling and heat and are quite efficient. They are easy to plumb with one or more zones and are very quiet. Plus, they can be easily serviced anywhere. The routing could be done through a RV long cornice or small conduit down the centerline of the trailer. And I presume if the mini-splits are not rugged enough, Mr. Cool or Fujitsu or other companies would be happy to partner with you to ruggedize those units for travel given the RV volumes. An no more sliced off air conditioners by the 11' 8" bridge and other such locations and tree branches. And if you got this far, thanks for listening!

😍 Love these! I just wish they would adapt that front cap that limits the propane size. Whomever came up with that deserves a job in fast food. They made an RV ideal for boondocking and gave it very limited propane capacity. I’m curious if they offer an electric induction cook top yet? And Yup-Yup, that bedspread is very ugly. Reminds me of my late wife and I looking at a house that was just as fugly (FreakingUgly) as it gets. Kitchen was a sickening pepto-bismol pink, the hallways had lime green and dark brown orange walls, the carpet everywhere was a weird purple-ish blue. But the rooms were large, beautiful spacious layout, I saw the potential and knew some paint and a little TLC would make it an amazing home. The price was over $50k under what it had sold for a few years ago, while everything in the neighborhood had gone way up (Over a $100k less than comps), so I thought DEAL! 💙❤ But my wife hated it, fought me tooth and nail, just livid at the thought that I would buy that ugly house. Ahh the memories. 🥸
