My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. kzbin.infoUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

I looked into a lot of different transducer mounting options and what I discovered is that as long as there is water (or another medium without air bubbles) between the transducer and the hull, you can just put the transducer inside the hull and leave it there. Some folks build a small water reservoir out of duct sealant. The side-mount arm may allow you to mount it without any drilling, but I think if you want the cleanest look and easy transportation, mounting it inside the hull (and leaving it there) is the way to go. Great video as always! Very excited to see where you go with the kayak.

You can always mount the transducer the inside of the hull, no drilling required, there's tons of videos about how to glue or epoxy your transducer to the inside of the hull, one thing a lot of people don't know is that the transducer does not have to be in contact with the water. Depending on the brand, you might sacrifice a little bit of resolution and picture quality but if you don't want to drill holes and avoid cheap plastic extension arms it's the way to go. I do know for a fact that Lowrance and Simrad work well with this technique. Hope this helps

Some tips from a fellow kayak fisherman; ADD OUT RIGGERS, out riggers can stabilize your kayak while they might make it a little harder to paddle when you are flipping docks for bass you can stand up and make a easy money cast, the kayak will also roll a lot less! And when you are putting that 12v battery where ever, Go to your local store and go around putting your battery in boxes and try to find the best fit, this will make your batter waterproof and it is pretty cheap to do! If you really want to go over board with your kayak mount a 20lb trolling motor. Now with a 10ft kayak and limited space this is isn't really needed but makes getting to your spots easier and faster! Look up videos on how other anglers made there yaks and brain storm! good luck

Suggestions from a kayak fisherman 1. mount all your stuff (fishfinder, rodholder etc) on teh one side of the kayak. Left I would say so your right arm can land fish etc). This way you can more easily land fish but you also, if/when you flip the kayak , will have a clear side that is easier to get back in from. 2. Get your battery into either a dry box or a dry bag 3. Get a leash for your paddle. 4. Get a few more leashes for stuff like Pliers, lip grippers, scissors and rods that are not in use 5. Put a rod holder on (scotty likely) so when you are trolling you can set it there, or when you land a fish you can just quickly put the rod in it and not worry about it falling out etc. 6. Get an anchor setup to hold your spot (or a micro power pole with some of that panamera money) 7. Keep an empty gatorade widemouth bottle on board :)

If I'm not mistaken they make battery packs for the yaks. Also you definitely need to get some leashes. Leashes for your rods and then definitely get a leash for your paddle . I normally keep my paddle across my lap all the time and when I go to set the hook if It slides off, the leash keeps it nearby. Also some friendly advice, when the water warms back up take all your gear out of your kayak. Go to the water, and attempt to flip your kayak. By doing so you will have an idea of how much you can lean before you actually flip. So when you're in a real life fishing situation trying to get that 12 pounder out of the brush, you'll know the limits. Excited to see these videos come!.

I was hesitant to drill into my kayak at first but then when I came up with a game plan it turned out that drilling and mounting all my accessories was the easiest and safest option. You can mount the transducer inside the hallow hull of the kayak and glue it down and it works just like if it were in the water. I also store the battery inside a waterproof case inside the hallow hull. I then just run the cables up and out of a small hole I drilled near the fishfinder and plug it in the fishfinder when I'm using it. This way you don't have some many exposed cables on the deck of the boat

Hey Jon, I have been kayak fishing for a long time now and one of the most important things is an anchor especially on windy days. I have a 12ft kayak and use a 10lb anchor and a anchor trolley. Awesome to see you starting to kayak fishing!!!
@justinm.35947 жыл бұрын
+Jon B. As a kayak angler I am familiar with the milk crate idea. The thing about the milk crate is you should really put PVC rod holders on it (homemade) you can literally fit like 12 rods on the crate. Also an anchor trolley is very easy to figure out. The battery to your fish finder can go in your milk crate. Also if you are into this kind of thing, you can mount a trolling motor on the back of your yak! It makes for a better day on the water. Silicone the hole on the transducer! Basically simple stuff, another nice video!

Yo Jon I don't know if you'll see this but I have a kayak that i've decked out over the years and have a few suggestions. For 1, definitely install an umbrella mount, being out on the water usually means direct sunlight for hours on end. The shade is so nice and it can help with light rains as well. Also keep a small length of rope, it'll always come in handy. Maybe invest in an anchor too, I just have a heavy crowbar and it's easily one of the most used items in the kayak. Also the small storage space in front of your cupholder isn't as waterproof as it seems, just a heads up. Good luck, bud.

Hey, so for the transducer connection with the mount you have the only way to connect it is by drilling into it. If you decide to go that route, you will definitely want to use silicone to help keep water out of the kayak, and using a rivet gun will help exponentially! If you have anymore questions pertaining to kayak fishing I’d be more than happy to help.

@b.s.fishing59027 жыл бұрын
if you don't want problems in the wind you will need either an anchoring system...or if you are getting blown around while paddling, you'll need a rudder. The deeper the go into the water the better, it will give you better control and tracking. The difficult part is adjusting it while you are on the move and paddling. Its so much easier in my pedal drive because I can always have one hand on steering the rudder. curious how you mount and power the LEDs, i'm looking at doing that for my kayak so that I can go out night fishing for walleye in the spring.

For the LED lights...1: Learn how to solder, don't use the quick clips. 2: Use liquid electrical tape and heat shrink to waterproof connections. 3: Make sure you have a dimmer / switch. 4: Face them out not up and maybe use red or green (won't blind yourself and attract bugs) 5. Don't just rely on the adhesive strip, clean the surface and use some additional glue. Hope this helps!😎

I just bought the Ascend 128T with pre wired yak power. My question is have you ever tried out the yak power led kits and if so how do you know how high or low to put your Led strips so that they are not in or under the water. Could the weight of your gear make it to were the lights are under water and lastly do they ever sale these in white because to me blue or green really doesn't match with My Kayak i have the same color as well... My set up : Front two rod holders has a simple upside down looking U shape Bar that connects the left to right from the rod holders about 8 inches high from the rod holder and it is made of Pvc pipe sprayed with Rhino Liner and i have a 22 inch LED 3 rolled Light Bar Mounted onto the Pvc Pipe. Then i plugged it in the front plug. The back is similar I have a upside down U shaped Pvc Bar which also connects together from left to right it is about 8 inches high with two 4 inch Led Lights also spray with rhino liner. The middle deck has 4 small Led Lights that shine down on the Deck. All lights are removable except the 4 small Led Lights in the Deck walls so i did not have to screw any holes on the outside or on top of my kayak. Myself i am nervous about drilling into it so i made my set up simple and also my front Pvc Bar that has the 22 inch Led Light has a 18 or 20 inch Rail mount screwed underneath for anything i might want to put on in the future.

Jon, get yourself the icefishing kit for your Lowrance. Hear me out here. The kit comes with a bag that stores the whole thing for icefishing and comes with a battery and ice tranducer. I keep everything in the bag when not in the yak (except my regular transducer which is permanently mounted to my yak). I use a ram mount to mount the unit to gear track on my yak and put the bag with the battery still in it in my front hatch with the wires coming out of the bag to power the unit. Then I can easily transport it, it takes very little time to hook it up and the battery is secure in the bag (along with everything I need for when the water turns to ice and I go icefishing). Win win. (You do plan on returning to the midwest for some icefishing, right?)

You may be able to add the transducer into one of the scupper holes (where water drains thought the big holes in the boat) and put the battery in a sealed ammo can with rubber seals where you run the wires though. Love it jon! Some people with yaks don't have an idea on how to set it up and this series will definitely help them!

If you're going to be out at night you're gonna want nav lights. You could use each led strip on a side of the yak and have one set up red and one green. There's some battery boxes for kayaks on Amazon that would keep everything water tight. Plastic ammo cans work well too, they just require some modifications to keep them water tight. These can be drilled, but I would use the special rivets that keep everything water tight.

As an avid kayaker, I would recommend putting the transceiver through one of the scupper holes rather than the mount. The wound could get in the way. Btw the black part is for standing in the yak. A little bit of elastic on the side and a hook of some sorts works great as a paddle mount.

Jon quick suggestion,when your working on the Yak in the garage get yourself a couple of cheap saw horse and elevate the Yak to waist level, it will make working on it a lot easier than sitting on the garage floor with pieces and parts all over the place. I love all the inexpensive mods tho. I did the same years ago to a Coleman crawdad it was a lot of fun. Good Luck with upgardes. I think Travis Nobs is on to something with the paddle magnets!!!

Please make a series on beginner fly fishing! Tips on fly fishing for smallies in creeks would be great!

Jon b I recommend using a solar panel charger for the 12v battery and adding a 12v input female to charge your phone or camera batteries(mount everything on the crate) , get a kayak leash for the paddles and for the fish finder mount 3m clips on the sides of the kayak to hook the wires when running them to the battery, and use the railing to mount your go pro for camera angles

What part of the brazos river are you fishing? I live on the brazos in milsap Tx. The fishing isn't real great on my end deepest part only gets above the knees.

Hey Jon! I own the fs128t in white... I added an anchor trolley from yak attack to help with windy and strong current conditions..also I wouldnt mount the lights on top...instead either mount them on the inside part of that lip or on the outside......as for your paddle probs ...i would adjust your foot pegs so that your knees are slightly bent...then just let the paddle rest evenly in your lap instead of putting it on the deck of the boat. Hope this helped. Keep fishing never stop brotha! Super excited to see you in the yak!

Nice. You should definitely get rod leashes and a top for your crate. I kayak quite a bit and have flipped twice. It will happen eventually. I also use a paddle leash. Most paddles float but you still don’t want to go swimming after it.

I just got my first kayak too. I'm about where you are on figuring out how to rig it up.

Lol, the struggles of kayak angling lol. The paddle holder is a great idea. I bought myself a paddle leash but I like ur idea with the paddle holder. I've installed those lights before and they come with not so good adhesive strips that will eventually fall off. Have u ever used contact cement? Get a tiny brush and contact cement and make sure u also buy some goof off or mineral spirits and a clean rag to clean up excess glue. Read instruction on how to aply because there is a drying period before u actually connect the light strip to the yak. Or ur other option would be to buy a bunch of wire clips that fit the light strip and doing it that way. But that would include screwing into the yak. Just remember if u screw into ur yak just put a dab of silicone on the screw or a lot of accesseries come with washers so u really have nothing to worry about. Just set ur screw gun on a lower setting so u done screw right thru the yak. There are plenty of kayak rigging videos out there as well. So they could help. Feel free to hit me back if u need more help.
