I don't get why people compare Day of Defeat with Day of Infamy. Even the developers think it's similar, so they added the Salerno map, however, I think these games are totally different. While Day of Infamy is a semi-realistic hybrid between Squad and CoD Hardcore, Day of Infamy was much more Counter-Strikey CS style gunplay.

The German uniforms were perfect in the original and atrocious in DoD:Source. Valve went with the very strange design choice of using the 1938/39 style uniforms instead of the great looks of the 1944 options like Zeltbahns, Sümpfmuster and splinter smocks. That, and removing the G43 and MG-34 were real head scratchers. It’s a shame, because I feel like it had some of the best sniping I’ve ever experienced in an FPS.

The uniforms in classic DOD weren't entirely accurate, but they were way better than the ones in source. DOD source in general just looks off. DOD source was scared down for the sake of balance, which made it boring compared to classic.

Yeah, with the original DoD, they definitely weren’t totally accurate by any stretch, but one could at least see what they were going for and the aesthetic somewhat fit the 1944 maps depicted. Sumpfmuster smocks, Fallschirmjeager jump smocks etc. DoD Source, the Germans looked like some caricature of a 1938/39 WH soldier. The models were so bad that even slapping feldgrau or erbesnmuster skins on them didn’t fix it. That was a big design choice mistake on the devs part.

I honestly didn't realise the wehrmacht had sumpftarn/splittertarn parkas/smocks until I looked at the character models in the model viewer. They camo seemed very faded, but they did a pretty good job with the fallschirmjägers

dod source was a cut down rehash in new skins, what was worse the immersion just wasnt there and it looked too 'cartoony' and a mix of CS and TF2. the mod will always be king

Was ridiculous how valve cut features from DOD 1.0 and the full fail was DOD:S (great and fun game, I enjoyed it) refusing to port all models, game modes or at least add something new, in my opinion DOD:S have a great game core but fully wasted because even in its day they do not made new maps... even reach levels of Beta version or early access (2 nations, -6 maps, 2 game modes, the minimum for a online beta). A LOT of wasted potential.

DoD:Source is a bad Day of Defeat game, but still worth playing. I give it 7/10. I still play it because it requires skill unlike modern day FPS-games. Hopefully there will be a 3rd installment, because DoD is a mix of skill and fun arcade style gameplay.

DoD Source war eine krasse abgespeckte Version des Originals und hat mich deshalb ziemlich enttäuscht. Im Original gab es mir Klassen, Waffen und bessere Maps. Auch die Voice Commands waren beim Original besser. Des weiteren gab es auch Maps mit Fallschirmjägerklassen. DoD 1.3 habe ich übelst gesucht und war meine, was den spass und unterhaltung anging, meine besten online gaming zeit. Mit dem Remake von Days of War hat es ja auch nicht geklappt

We should have a DoD that takes place on different fronts, like the Eastern Front with the Soviets, the Pacific front with Japan and the North African front with Italians, with a new gamemode: *"Rebellion"* How would this work? All maps would take place in German occupied territory such as France or Poland or Italy or even Czechoslovakia with partisans having to complete several objectives to win. 1: Destroy German/Italian supply positions with explosives. 2: Cut off communication to prevent reinforcements from moving in. 3: Capture a reinforced position like a town hall for example. 4: Hold off against enemy reinforcements for a specific amount of time before Allied reinforcements arrive.
